I love the absurdity of the Aquilan Shield. They basically just operate on prophetic visions of the Emperor telling them that they have to go out and save a person, because that person might be relevant to the Emperor at some point in time perhaps. So you have this squad of hulking demigods who just teleport into some slaughter to protect a single random Guardsman, because that Guardsman one day might do something that's of importance to the Imperium, lmao. It also gives very fun narrative hooks for wins and losses. You play against Orks and you somehow lose? Well, as planned, because the Warlord will, in hundreds of years, become a great threat to the Imperium at which point humanity will find another leg up against an adversary and beat the Warlord. But him beating the Custodes was necessary for his ego to swell and his Boyz to revere him, so he can BECOME a threat, lmao.
as a casual fan with super limited knowledge of the lore, I ask you this: did the person that they saved somehow had an important effect to the imperium?

At which point I was crushed.... Custodes pretty much win, even if they're losing horribly, they can pretty much pull a win out of thin air if you make the slightest mistake
That 60% competative win rate is probably a reason why Custodeas players may find it hard to find games in the future. My idea of fun isnt watching my GSC get obliterated by an army they literally cant win against

Lucifer blacks exist. there basically the best of the best of the best guardsmen, but still guardsmen. I once played 2000 pts Astra against Custodes, I had the first Round and killed one Custodes by shooting and 2 in Close Combat. that was the 2nd round after 3 lost Tanks and one lost shocktroop of Cadians, after that I couldn't wound any of them and lost by losing all Army models
Best way to counter Custodes? Death guard. Their perks literally cancel eachother. Ends up being high numbers high wound units i.e. Death Guard vs low numbers high wounds i.e. Custodes. Plus Morty can ram a line of Custodes and mulch them with Silence.
There’s a few Word Bearers With the distinguished honor of beating a Custodes albeit only because they were possessed by daemons which enhanced their abilities at the cost of turning them into monsters. Argel Tal has personally killed three, maybe four Custodes gaurds in one book. In Betrayer he wields a Custodes sword and halberd from the two that he bested, both out of vengeance for his Chaplain and his waifu
I find that, perhaps ironically, the Imperial Guard kinda stuffs the banana boys. There are usually more guardsmen than the bananas will even get attacks in the entire game, there are enough flashlights that someone will be a lucky boy almost every time they shoot, heaven forbid a guardsman spears a Custodian in melee, objectives are a completely lost cause for the bananas, and the artillery and tanks can shoot sisters off the field before they can blink, take juicy bites out of Custodians, and are meaty enough to not immediately die if a squad of bananas glares angrily at them.
Two things you have wrong about the SoS: Not all daemons are perma-killed by the SoS; one Bloodthirster was actually so powerful that it overrode Aleya's (a SoS) blankness sporadically and she occasionally saw it the way normal humans did Second, SoS cannot keep up with Custodes, as has been shows many times in the lore. But they are certainly still inhumanly fast and strong
@@h0shidont35 No he didn't. You can read the section yourself if you like, but the Custodes and Lucifer Blacks are clearly differentiated and they're killing Custodes. Which isn't anything crazy since they're led by high-level Harlequins who are some of the most cheaty fuckers in the setting.
Because plot, that's why. It's the same reason why Superman can survive a supernova, then get shocked into submission by a punk like Livewire, who is, in essence, just a human version of Pikachu.
You mean the different terra defender guys that explicity showed up in the same story? That the author explicitly contrasted against the custodies to say the custodies are on a completely different tier than the other ones?
Custodes allegedly always have the model advantage when capturing, no matter how many models, meaning a single Custodes vs 200 guard in a control point will give the Custodes player the objective so that they can actually capture objectives.
Quick explanation of the “No soul VS Negative soul”. A Necron has no soul, as such it has no presence in the Warp. A Blank has a negative soul, meaning they have a sort of “reverse” presence in the warp. Imagine it as the difference between silence and a noise that cancels out other nearby sounds.
Actually the custodes v hive fleet went down differently. Yeah there was 6 of em but only one survived. And there's not just gold custodes, there's a few different coloured custodes.
I faced Custodes once. Once. Yeah, best I did was when I had my AdMech Warglaive run up to the Captain General on a Hoverbike and did a Strike attack on them. Smoked the Captain-General in one hit, straight through that golden armor. I lost the match but still it is my favorite accomplishment. Gosh I need to play my AdMech more.... probably after someone gives me enough money or a 3D printer just for more basic Skitarii.

You forgot my biggest pet peve with the Custodes, it's that just like with Bloodthirsters if you want to make someone look cool, have them wipe out a dozen Custodes.
I'm glad that the sisters are silence are able to keep up with the custodians because that means that every normal person in Warhammer 40K has the potential to become as strong as a custodies and I'd like that it means everyone can become special.
Really depends on if you make the one in a trillion cut and survive the training. Whether you're a strong enough null male and get sent to the Officio Assassinorum to become a Culexus Assassin or a female null and get sent to train and become reconditioned as a Sister of Silence. Both have high mortality rates, and any rejects that aren't sent to either are then sorted to being Inquisitorial aides or ground up to become null bombs.
@@Doku71 I don't really care how hard to training is what I care about is if normal people have the potential to become strong enough to affect the story because to me it just seems unfair when the protagonist are going on all these important adventures to save the world or something while normal people don't even have the chance to become strong enough to help them or affect them in really any way besides emotional support or giving advice
To be fair, the emperor implied that humanity would be physically equal to the custodes and as psychic as Malcador if they evolved in the webway. Who’s to say the pariah gene doesn’t enhance the human body?
@@joeblazer3429 Nah, it's cause anything psychic has the potential of being corrupted by the four and not even a small potential, it's more like a question of when are you gonna get corrupted rather than if you are gonna get corrupted. Slight oversight, you can run psykers in a Custodes army. You need to run an Inquisitor as you can put one in any Imperium army without it messing up your list building. Other than that great vid.
Imagine being an inquisitor working with the custodes in lore Man that'd be an ego boost and a half to work with the guardians of the god Emperor himself
@@celsetialarchives5909 There is a book series where the Inquisition works with the Custodes on Terra. So it does happen. It's an interesting dynamic because the Custodes are effectively one of the few groups that are above the Inquisition.
I like this kind of description of the Custodes. If the Space Marines are Angels, and the Primarch's Archangels, then the Adeptus Custodes are Seraphim. Highest ranking Angel, arguably the most powerful, and the ones that sit closest to God as the throne guardians.
A Vexillus Imperator and the Ka'Tah stance that gives +1 attack but changes your weapons to D1 are extremely useful for enemies with -1 damage. Also that thing about FW is spot on. Custodes' full potential is locked behind an absurd paywall.
If I were to make a 40k army I'd absolutely bring the custodes and sisters of silence, more so the sisters as I do really like the idea of like normal humans with a mutation that can be used as a weapon against certain enemies
It is incredibly engaging to paint custodes. I play exclusively killteam, so I collect bits and bobs from all armies for balanced kill teams. Custodians, as I run them as the Solar Host, take around 14 hours to paint. The absolute zen as each model comes out beautiful and unique as I change gem colors, leather etchings, acid etchings on armor plates, exchanging their plumage and greenstuffing locks of hair, bands of cloth, and facial hair means that every single one is a joy and experience to paint. If you enjoy the painting side of the hobby, there is no more interesting and rewarding experience than to paint custodians on marble with the blood of heretics slick and among rivers. Even if you don't intend to play them, paint them.
Besides the fact that the Custodes are still balanced for 1 Wound Marines, the biggest overall problem with the Imperium is the inability to run mixed armies. It is far, far, far more likely that a Custodes assault army would consist of a few Custodes and a bunch of Marines and/or Guard.
@@Karhall But like, Angron killing just 1 and Alpharius [that i belive that wast Omegon at the time] also killing just 1 wast like, a major feat?, for what i undestood util now from the books, the Primarchs are more special because each of them have one unique power.
@@zerotohero884 its pretty clear in the lore that the weakest primarch is still miles stronger than the average custodes. (Angron pushed a titan off of him and survived for gods sakes) But yeah the custodes are harder to kill. Essentially the primarvh have their unique powers, speed, and strength. While the custodes seem far more durable. Tho this could be wrong in some areas.
In the books/lore "A Custodes can take on an army of thousands of regular humans/orks/tyranids. In the table top game: Your Custodes is worth one Guard Squad.
For those who do not know a Custodian's rank and authority, are equal to those of a Primarch, yed they can in theory supplant and even counter, High Lords, but all of them are just basic grunts, ranks are just for show only decorations, rotated and swapped only based of necessity and formality, If a single rank and file Custodes wants to govern a planet or sector they can do that,
To explain no soul and negitive souls: having no soul in the warp is like having no star where there should be one, a negative soul is a black hole where there should be a star
Aren’t these the guys that had some of their men killed by some Harlequins initially? Edit: Oh, I thought the Harlequins were just some fancy assassins and not the lore equivalent to these guys. Never mind
Most people are mad after that harlequin thingy, mainly because it was really badly written, the harlequins went through custodes like they were nothing, and nothing should be able to do that except greater daemons and primarch and stuff like that
@@BrotherGS From what little I know about the 40k lore I don't think that even Primarchs and greater daemons are going to have an easy time in a 1v1 with a Custodes. @@BrotherGS If it was an avatar-like situation or the goal was to kill as much banana-man I feel like it would have been more accepted. But no, the reason was because they wanted to talk to the emperor. It's just the sheer stupidity of the whole clusterfuck.
ONI employee #343 I dunno man, the gear and feats the Primarchs are capable of are pretty overpowered. A single swing from present day Girlyman and his daddy’s sword could probably cleave through 6-10 Custodes at once…and he’s just a mid-tier fighter in the Primarch ranking list both in TT and in lore.
I'd say there's at least a single "low key" custodes story in Garro from the HH series. Nothing super galaxy changing just a short story about a custodes and some Marines inspecting some ships carrying refugees for traitors
"If you don't like gold, leave." If you aren't basic use a different paint scheme. It is like the sigmarines. The second you use a different paintscheme they look 50 times better. My personal recommendation is the shadowkeepers
So, I tend to mix my Custodes with the guardsmen with the Custodes and Sisters of silence acting as shock troops and anti psycher BS with the guards providing big ranged support. I particularly like the bikes for the express reason that the added speed lets them get into melee much for readily. Additionally, the guardsmen make it so that even if I loose one of two custodes I can make up for those losses by sheer concentrated fire.

Honestly, there is _some_ potential for interaction between the Emperor's Finest and your average guardsman, but it's mainly the guardsman asking the Custodes questions about them. What it's like to _be_ a Custodes, what the difference is between them and the Astartes, what it was like to fight alongside the Emperor, what the Emperor himself is like, etc.
I feel the humans winning wars is down to sheer unending amount of men that is sent to a literal uncountable number of men and just simply ‘had enough men’ at the time
It technically is, because of how the game mechnics works i.e an invulnerable save does not give a damn that you've been hit by a Chainsword twice your size, it still works.
Remember guys, if Space marines loose a battle, its a bad day. If Custodians loose a battle, it changes the history of the galaxy. That’s how just powerful they are and how the battle they involve themselves with are crucial.

I always interpreted the custodes as, "they are to a space marine what a space marine is to a human" a single unarmed custodes can destroy 100 fully armed space marines as an unarmed space marine can destroy 100 fully armed men
The fact that they're so strong works against them. Every time a writer wants to showcase how strong his Character is: "You see this is Brother Bob. He was once accused of heresy and had to fight of 5 custodes. He killed all of them!" Yeah, right.
Personally, making Custodes a playable army was one of the worst decisions GW has ever made. Custodes were interesting when they were a background note. The idea that the Imperium had thousands of invincible super-superhumans that make Space Marines look downright useless, but left them all sitting in the most heavily-defended building on the most heavily-defended world in the galaxy out of a perverse sense of tradition and pride, even as the Imperium collapses - really nailed the tone of the Imperium and the wider setting. Now, Custodes have been wanked so much, you really do question why the Imperium hasn't conquered the universe yet. Six of them can curbstomp an entire Tyranid fleet by themselves. Ridiculous even for this setting.

Nice video king
I mean without the imperial guards and space marines there every thing would fall
Pure arrogance. They place too much value on their leader. The imperium would die, humanity probably wouldn't, unless the Tyranids eat everyone but I'm not sure how much anything can stop that.

I find that, perhaps ironically, the Imperial Guard kinda stuffs the banana boys.
There are usually more guardsmen than the bananas will even get attacks in the entire game, there are enough flashlights that someone will be a lucky boy almost every time they shoot, heaven forbid a guardsman spears a Custodian in melee, objectives are a completely lost cause for the bananas, and the artillery and tanks can shoot sisters off the field before they can blink, take juicy bites out of Custodians, and are meaty enough to not immediately die if a squad of bananas glares angrily at them.
Two things you have wrong about the SoS:
Not all daemons are perma-killed by the SoS; one Bloodthirster was actually so powerful that it overrode Aleya's (a SoS) blankness sporadically and she occasionally saw it the way normal humans did
Second, SoS cannot keep up with Custodes, as has been shows many times in the lore. But they are certainly still inhumanly fast and strong
Proof ??
Ahh yes the golden blanablas, I find it weird how they get spanked by dancing clowns... but held off a hive fleet with just 3 of the golden dudes

The person who wrote the first bit mistook the Custodes for different Terran defender guys

Custodes allegedly always have the model advantage when capturing, no matter how many models, meaning a single Custodes vs 200 guard in a control point will give the Custodes player the objective so that they can actually capture objectives.
The have the Objective Secured rule on basically all their stuff, because they just wouldn't be able to hold objectives at all without it

Quick explanation of the “No soul VS Negative soul”. A Necron has no soul, as such it has no presence in the Warp. A Blank has a negative soul, meaning they have a sort of “reverse” presence in the warp.

Sounds like they play like Custodes, but when your opponent deploys psychic powers, you get to say "nah".
@Xahnel sisters of battle not sisters of silence.
1:09 Oh, how poorly that aged.

Slight oversight, you can run psykers in a Custodes army. You need to run an Inquisitor as you can put one in any Imperium army without it messing up your list building. Other than that great vid.
Imagine being an inquisitor working with the custodes in lore
Man that'd be an ego boost and a half to work with the guardians of the god Emperor himself

Hmmmm.... I wonder why this video is suddenly at the top of my recommendation list 🤔
In all honesty, the creative way people advertise Raid is in itself quite entertaining to watch
Besides the fact that the Custodes are still balanced for 1 Wound Marines, the biggest overall problem with the Imperium is the inability to run mixed armies. It is far, far, far more likely that a Custodes assault army would consist of a few Custodes and a bunch of Marines and/or Guard.
To summarizes space Marines and custodes.
Space marine = 100 men
Custodes = 100 space Marines

He killed all of them!"
Yeah, right.
