Dennis reminds me of Strelok. He serves no specific interest group and is more concerned with figuring out just what the hell happened and why several of said interest groups seem to know much more than what they let on.
The man is a stoic lol
Denis* :)
stalker and tarkov hold special places in my heart
Yeah generally speaking i feel like Tarkov draws alot of Inspiration from Stalker also somewhat with Fallout.
honestly its not like strelok was like that before he got brainwiped, pre-game strelok definitely seems like he serves the interest group of making himself more money, (i.e., bandit/loner) what with all of the "venturing into extremely dangerous exclusion zone repeatedly to pilfer and loot both leftover belongings as well as extraordinarily dangerous and radioactive artifacts in order to make profit by selling them outside of the zone"
I think strelok only started really caring about figuring out what happened after he woke up with no memories in some fat russian dude's bunker, honestly. the orders to "kill the strelok" really only ended up leading him to regaining his lost memories because he *was* Strelok. if he had been anyone else, he probably wouldn't have gotten his memories back/figured out who strelok was/figured out what За монолит was, in my opinion.
literally things only turned out alright for him because a collective consciousness of a dozen of the world's brightest scientists is actually apparently really fucking stupid - if they hadn't fucked up like they did at the beginning of the game, Strelok literally would have just been Monolit, never would have chased after the Monolith/Sarcophagus, and probably wouldn't have killed the C-consciousness
I think dennis being some sort of geek IT guy turned into a cold blooded, efficient lone wolf killer is some sort of meta commentary about tarkov players.
It's a very silly commentary if it is one.
If anything Dennis would've been a Streamer, because that's more of the target audience for Nikita it seems.
@@jamesharding3459 oh without a doubt, tarkov fanbase usually falls under larpers and streamers
@@eth05_ I meant that it's _a fucking videogame._ It's not going to turn anyone into anything different.
@@jamesharding3459 Have you ever played Disco Elysium?
I feel like the unknown group is actually supposed to be USEC's Black Division that's seen in the Raid ending as it all lines up perfectly:
>Mostly Western Equipment
>Well Trained
>Unrecognizable Uniforms
>Organised
Explains everything really.
To paraphrase the meme, "Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?"
I thought the black division were another PMC / SOF group for the west or something, not USEC. Are they apart of usec cause then why would they kill the usec with the secure container in the raid series? And they hired an army of scavs as a meat wall too. Just wonder why there ain’t more talk bout this
@@TukihaMaza He was killed at the very end by a Black Division no?
@@based-cosmoUSEC killed terragroup employees, what makes you think they wouldn't kill lower ranking USEC to keep terragroup's secrets?
I do kinda feel like Dennis is a power fantasy protagonist.
I wouldnt call him a Mary Sue because he is mostly a lone wolf who everyone has beef with, but he is definitely just a power fantasy blank sleigth were people can somewhat self insert to a cool post apocalyptic premise. I somehow feel like this character type has been influenced a lot by anime/manga type stories just for a setting that we usually dont see something like this with.
He definitely felt "3 steps ahead of the enemy" just about the entire way through. There were certainly some interesting interactions, but you knew he was kinda invincible at some point.
Yea, maybe that's why he's surviving... Anyone less intelligent would have been killed far sooner & that would make for a pretty boring story.
@@MeadeJ67 Intelligence and going from desk-jockey to hardened-killer are two *very* different things.
Also, we're talking about a book here. He isn't going to die until, or if, the author writes it. If the author wanted to keep the "zero-to-hero" plot, it could have been done with better with proper character development, and been more connected to reality by having the insurmountable efforts either overcome with more consequence, or just less sheer scale to be put up against. There are many direction the book could've gone while still maintaining the action or expanding some lore, and the author seemingly chose to laziest one.
The lore, factions, and general setting of Tarkov is really cool. Dennis as a character is a little silly, how can some hacker dude become this terrifying killer without even a hint of remorse? It would have been a lot more interesting and more sensible to tell this same story through a series of vignettes, turning Dennis into multiple characters who all experience a different part of his story. Or Dennis should have been a more hapless protagonist, more concerned with escaping Tarkov, who reluctantly shacks up with this Predator character. At least that way we could see him be influenced by the Predator and Tarkov itself, and lose his humanity.
I mean... Basically everyone is Tarkov is a weird soulless criminal without a hint of remorse.
Is that realistic? I dunno, you tell me. It is pretty fun though.
There's a "big twist" in the 3rd book that exposes him as an extremely well known hacker that essentially has no peers in terms of skill, and even the narrator and Denis himself didn't betray this fact until the very end. I will say this trilogy wasn't exactly a major literary achievement lol.
@@EULGamingYT Welp oof!
@@EULGamingYT You're on point about the mary sue thing, I'm surprised that the scavs didn't start clapping for Dennis or form a love triangle around him.
Hopefully a different author comes around and writes something more well developed.
Being a hacker and being a killer aren't mutually exclusive concepts, the idea that a man who works with computers has to be some kind of scared nerd with no capacity for violence is an outdated trope, I served with a former network security specialist who changed his MOS to become an infantryman because he wanted to kill people instead of sit behind a computer.
I like the fact that we see more traders, enemies, groups and "bosses" here than in the game, so i like it a lot!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, I know it has to consume so much of it. Just want y’all to know it’s truly appreciated. Also your ability to tell stories is absolutely amazing.
NICE MAN , happy yo hear from u again , i was missing your lores
Well done Jeff! Thanks for the almost 90 minutes of entertainment.
Letssss gooo I’ve been waiting for more lore :0

It might actually happen
@crushtron93 when the Ukraine conflict first started I saw a picture of someone who wrote "Welcome to Kharkov" on a truck like the welcome to Tarkov truck on Customs. (Russians pronounce Kharkiv like Kharkov) so maybe.
Tarkov players are gonna be prepared though lol
Thank you so much for making this fairly long video! You have brought my attention back to that videogame and made my nightshift way better. I will just go ahead and read the original in Russian. Since I can. Thanks again! Please continue to make more Tarkov videos!
yes i love your story telling keep it up really enjoy your channel
Between the game, the series (Raid and CoR), and these books, their respective creators have done a really good job at portraying the grey and chaotic nature of the groups within Tarkov, not one particular group is necessarily good or bad per se, it just depends on the context they are viewed in. Makes the story feel that much more immersive.
the tarkov lore is crazy i love it
Such a great video, love your stuff
Great video Geoff!!
A little inaccuracy at the 3 minute mark, one of his co workers looked similar to denis waiting outside, and he took his jacket off before running upstairs to grab the water, his jacket had his terragroup pass in the pocket, so when the bears smoked the people in the car they confirmed they killed denis the badge matched, and they reported him as dead but rigged his apartment in case any other co workers snooped around
This was awesome man
If anybody is interested in more of this vibe of books, look into The Deathlands, you won't be disappointed.
Dylan O'Brian would be perfect to play Dennis in a live action adaption
Great video man
This is the original zero to hero run
His K/D is too high. Obviously a cheater.
Thank you so much for this video
God this channel is sooooo underrated
So a funny thing to see is that the cultists "blue flame" was actually put in the game for this years halloween event.
This video was amazing
32:12 these bear really be using in game tactics
Is a return in the works? Would love to see you back for the new wipe in late December.
Update: He posted a new video!
If you need some clarifications in the books, I can help you figure it out. I'm fluent in both languages. Haven't read the books yet, but I surely will read them now
This is a great video summary of the 3 books, but where did you get all the concept art from since i can only find like 1/5th of the pictures you used
Great video. But, the UN were actually briefly mentioned around the time the book mentions the accident at chemical factory.
“The appearance of the blue helmets of a UN peacekeeping force added further fuel to the flames.”
This was crazy good.
The shop keeper could be Kaban, and the police officer potentially Kollontay
very interesting video, keep it up
This is incredible
This was a nice listen. Kinda want to go play EFT now
Anyone know where I can buy the paperback versions of the books?
Where can you find the books? The first one I've read, its pretty easy to find on google books or whatever, but they pulled the other two from the merchstore it looks like, and I can't find them online otherwise
Right now you can afford those in merch store, afaik
Is this page really dead with one of the most hyped wipes ever? Fell into the perfect timeslot
tarkov lore is sick
Was there ever a video of you reading the books or only reviews?
Dennis is basically Jason Bourne 🤣🤣
soo good!
very good job
I hope to see more of Dennis's moonshine scav. I'm imagining they be funny like the squad from battlefield bad company.
As far as "Blue Ice" is concerned synthetic cathinones or "bath salts" are a really big thing in Russia. Drugs like Alpha-PVP and things like that. I imagine that is where it comes from as it was originally sold as things like plant food and bath salts.
where can we read these books ?
Hey thanks for clarifying that some things were lost in translation for the first book i didn't know that it was translated from Russian. You are spot on in saying it read like an early adult novel so many corny jokes it really put me off I thought it was just bad writing. I finished the first book and was very disappointed but after watching this I might check out the second and third one if they are written by someone else.
"The Boar" could be Kaban, as Kaban translates to boar. I don't believe he was out yet when this was made though
I've always thought "The Hood" from the first book was fence
wait you exist again? since when, what is my algorithm?
liked and shared
wait there's more books? I thought predator was the only one. Looking online it seems like voice behidn is error messaged
Yep awesome 😎😊
1:15:50 wonder if they’re ever gonna add those robots to tarkov lol
Wish for subtitles included😅
Just updated the subtitles!
@@EULGamingYT Ok cool thanks! May more people know ya amazing videos such Tarkov ones :D.
they should make one of these books into a new raid series
I wanna say maybe the reason we see no change in Denise's mood after killing is the fact he worked for terra group which was known for doing human trials I would assume it's not the first thing he was concerned with
He was a low level IT specialist not a scientist
nice!tarkov book
Now I know how the open world portion of tarkov is gonna work, just hearing this story imagine what EFT would be like open world. The world we be insane with all the IA and characters holy shit
were is the video with your taughts? its been 2 months
Are there plans for a 4th book?
I don't think so

I know this is late but at 8:30 " the blue flame return "
The 2023 haloween was about cultists and a blue flame and zryachy was infolved ..... Everything was here for years !
the blue flame is the EMP
i’d be interested to know how hired ops ties into this story
Really cool story. Gives me a vibe that some of these factions are preparing for a post nuclear war world.
I don't think the subtitled wrote USEC correctly once in this video
So Dennis is one of the new bosses or am I tripping? I haven't played tarkov in a fat minute, just heard about the goon squad and i meeeeaaaannnn it can't be a coincidence right? Maybe it's just a nod
Wdym? I'm pretty sure the goons are all USEC
@@urdadthatleftfouryearsago4835ex-usec
Am right after the first book part and from this video I kinda got the feeling that Dennis is a classic Mary Sue.
One office desk penpusher suddenly becomes a renowned killing machine, after doing a job that didn't require violence or physical strain for his entire adult life, yeah sure.
I gave him the benefit of a doubt but after he partially neutralized squads of Usecs ALONE, that's kinda where I go: Ok, bullshit. This guy is either budget John Wick or he has some serious plot armor problems.
Dude went from a nerd to a gigachad killer xD
Fuckkkk yea new tarkov shit 🎉🎉🎉
well at least with your narration i enjoyed the story of the books
They can't get away with this
Thanks for bringing up the books, didn’t know they exist. I wonder if there really is more to the Tarkov crisis, something connected to “the new world order”, as the Lightkeeper says. Also I wonder how many more years we’ll have to wait for all the mysteries surrounding Terra group, the cultists and the blue flame to be unveiled and if it all is just a cheap background without any actual depth to back it up, and a contrived setting to justify the Tarkov crisis. I believe it to be an epic large scale lore but something about Denis being Mary Sue rubs me the wrong way. Feels like a fanfiction
Where’d you guys go?
In the discord they said they're dissatisfied with BSG and are closing their discord, as for what they'll do next idk.
Real ashame given the content quality EUL has.

At around 12:40 you mention Denise's lack of emotional response, we're talking about a programmer/hardware specialist who has worked a mindless job cleaning up databases, lacks social interaction with the odd mention of flings but seemed more physical then emotional.. He is probably already an emotionally broken person.. Its almost 100% possible that he can just deal with what is thrown at him because of his lack of emotional response over his entire life.
I related to Denise tbh, In the moments of pure terror, he shows emotion, its just momentary emotional reponses, nothing sticks because he knows nothing matters but making it to the next day.
Also, numbness and seemingly uncaring demeanor is a common trauma response. The monologues we get from Denis put on the show that he doesn't care, but it's also very likely he _does_ care, it's just compartmentalized and numbed because of the horrific circumstances he's in.
Cache is pronounced like ''Cash''
Ima keep it real Dennis being some IT dweep and instantly turning into the punisher is not the most believable ark.
He is like the tarkov main character and all he does is shoot... pretty relatable for people playing the game, but not very believable. His name is Dennis ffs and we're supposed to believe he's killed hundreds of people, mostly by himself!?
What are the documents on the old forum posts etc? Do a video about that :>>
Most stories in that fairyland are Mary sue stories.
Have you even watched raid? That's the biggest other story and a Mary sue story is pretty much the only thing it isnt
Can I you make a video where you read the flavour text for every single task in the game with time stamps for me to jump to the quest I'm currently playing, because I'm a lazy c*nt so I'll never read them but I would I like to listen to them 🤣
What if this guy is fence
Where's the Complete Lore of Clear Sky video you promised Lebowski?! (Dunks EUL in Skadovsk latrines)
what kind of people lived in tarkov before it went to shit/ normal everyday people for the most part or alot of ex military, well trained people. curious the background for normal scavs
Tarkov was a whole city in every right, just one with a lot of business activity because it was a unique economic zone in Russia. So there were all normal citygoers on top of the Terragroup folks and the like. Accountants, store clerks, bartenders, etc.
Seems like a very generic apocalyptic tough guy power fantasy
It isn't. I was pleasantly surprised at that. Denis (the main character) succeeds because he behaves the opposite of a tough guy power fantasy type, he even mentions that in the books. A lot of his "skill" comes from a near obsessive aversion to risk-taking and a lot of luck (which is also acknowledged), and it isn't until halfway into the second book that he starts to try seriously learning proper techniques/tactics - even then, it only serves to refine his risk-averse strategy.
I just wish they'd get a native English speaker to write the book. Reading it feels like it's written by a Russian guy trying to write English IN russian!
Yeah the translations were rough. I found the third book's was pretty solid, but the first and second were not great translations.
