First time I ever saw a lift bridge was in Cleveland. I was sitting there watching the water front and wondered how the ships got past the bridge. I have been watching this bridge for a few months now. Its nice to know how this works.
As a high school student in the 70's, my friends and I would jump up to sit on the bottom I-beam and ride the bridge up and down. They put the cameras in soon after that but it was fun while it lasted.
I remember you could climb up to the main foundation block and stair up at the main span as it went up and down. There was very little clearance, so it took nerves of steel to stand there as it came back down. Of course, somebody got crushed or injured, so they fenced the area off. Duluth was a great place to be a kid. Did you put your hockey pads on and kill rats at the grain elevators?
@@FLYSUBS89 It really was. Had quite a few ratting runs. Never used hockey pads, just tucked our jeans in our sorel boots and went to town with our hockey sticks. Always thought the elevator workers would run us off but I guess we were doing them a service so they were cool with it. Wonder if people still do it. Good times.
What's in the door on the south base of the bridge?? I read there used to be tunnels that went to the lighthouses beneath the piers. Did that door lead to the tunnel? I've always wondered what's behind that door.
The weight of cars and people have become greater and can cause more stress to the bridge. I recently read that somewhere but cannot find the article. I'm sure some research would answer any questions
This isn't a game people if you're asked to leave the bridge so commerce (ship) can pass underneath than don't just take your damn sweet time, GET OFF THE BRIDGE!
After listening to the various ships give their great Captain and Master salutes, I IMMEDIATELY turn down the volume so I don't have to listen to that annoying response from the aerial bridge! That crummy horn response ruins good videos😵.
Me and my family went on vacation there and duluth is breathtaking and i hope to live there someday.
Love to see footage from within as the bridge lifts, a boat goes through, and the salutes back and forth.

I spent a great month in Duluth in '77 and I can only wish I'd had a chance to do that!
There are cameras under the span
Hey Dave, how about putting one of your bridge cams live, so we can see the ships come in from above? :o)
Wow, that is so cool.Use to see the bridges in Portland open.
I have been listening to him on DHC for years. First time seeing him.
love the tour, thanks for posting
Excellente!!!! 🤗❤️👍🙋🏻♀️

It has to be the electrical and hydraulic vault.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
great job ,but it has its ups and downs
Let me guess, the same number of each?
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Golly….I need a sedative ! Dull-looth, is SO exciting. I’m going to spend my honeymoon there.
What??? No ride on the bridge? Would love to see a freighter from above!
NEVER Forget...
That's a cushier environment than I would have expected. I was thinking it'd be more like a parking lot attendant booth.
How can you request permission to actually go into the lift bridge house? Because I am so curious to check it out!!
You have to be a Karen who is a morning radio flunkie in a minor market.
Back in the mid 60's, I remember being able to pay something like $0.50 to ride the bridge when it rose. I guess people can't do that anymore, huh?

Nope. I recall one day some kid tried to crawl out the top of the cage and jump off the bridge. That was the end of that.
I wonder how they managed it before there were cameras to see all of the different angles.
You had to go out of the cabin walk/look around for issues.

Very good video.
Thanks KAREN
Where in the world do they go to the bathroom?
I dunno, in the..bathroom?🤷♂️
Of course he RODE across. Bike riders are above the law.
Amen to that you got that one right
There’s a lot you can get away with when your carbon footprint is zero. “Hey look at me, I’m helping save the earth from polluters like you.”
The media dumb things down too much. They should have just recorded the person running the bridge rather then have the annoying lady talking.
My thought exactly. She wouldn't shut up. She's playing host instead of interviewer.
yeah this was a terrible interview
She doesn't work for b105 any more
Yes. Ask intelligent questions. Then Listen. And listen some more... = Learning.
What if a car is on it when the arms drop
he literally said that they don’t mind they ride when nobody’s on the sidewalk and then she says wElL iTs RuDe bEcAuSe PeOpLe aRe wAlKiNg
The woman was stu(^d and the whole thing was to cover her. But good information was given out. A win inspite of the media.
Skip to 1:20 to bypass all the annoying babbling.
Should change the title of this video to: “Complaining about people riding their bikes with a bridge operator and a crazy eye-brow lady”
You can't tell people anything these days. They don't follow directions. She has a I Want To Talk To The Supervisor hairdo.
i peed off this bridge.
Wonder what this chick did to get banished to siberia.
Waste of time...show the controls
..show the process of letting boats go through..
@@robertallen6710 he can’t open it unless a boat is waiting for it to be opened
Train Knight I know from Roblox
That was about as interesting as watching grass grow. 😖

..finally someone agrees w/me..annoying train horn kinda sound..
I agree. It's incongruous to have a locomotive horn answering a marine salute.
@@R.U.1.2. what do u expect it to be a circus horn? back in the day air horns were not used for bridges
Isn't she just special?
