In part 3 of 8 we are showing another practical test involving water content in bath bombs, and discussing the substitutions for water in bombs, and why you shouldn’t use witch hazel.
Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Witch hazel is drying, not binding. #themoreyouknow
We’ve only had failures with BB and you’ve saved us! Everyone is so excited and my kids are so happy! Can’t wait to add these to our business
I am totally new to making bath bombs and your videos are SO helpful! thanks for sharing your expertise with us and doing all the fun sciency comparisons. you are so fun to learn from!
Yaaaay!!!! This is a Great series!!! I am a bath bomb failure 😢 This series is giving me the courage to try again!! You Rock! Thank you for being Amazing ❤
I will be making several large batches of bath bombs soon. I am SO glad that you are publishing these before I got started. I am eagerly awaiting the rest of the series. I always learn so much from you.
Learning a lot - thank you
Thanks for this.... This explains the fails i have had
Those might be perfect for your BBs, because they’re ginormous! 😂😂😂 Mikayla and I broke ours in half so we both could use some.
Oh my gosh autocorrect is killing me right now! lol 😂
Im going to have a lot of bath bombs by the end of this series. I'd love to see in a video one that can also make bubbles, I have a few powdered syndet ingredients, coco betaine and other water based surfactants, I've also got colliodal oats, clays, butters & milk powders. I'm excited to master the basics and learn what's next. Thanks again 😊
Experiment time is SO FUN!
@@MrsSoapAndClay it sure is 😁
Those are cute though. 😊
Today was pretty sucky. I was so happy you posted a video. I want to put Epsom salt in mine. How do you know how much extra stuff you can throw in before completely ruining the bath bomb recipe? I have ehlers so i want to put as much muscle relaxation stuff in it as possible.
My bad, I just realized I missed a video and you're probably going to get to my question if I'm patient. Lol
Hey! Ehlers is so tough, I’m so sorry! Salts are great for relaxation, muscles, etc - a good rule of thumb for bath bomb recipes dry ingredients is 2 parts baking soda, 1 part citric acid, and up to one part everything else (salts, corn starch, arrowroot, etc).
@@MrsSoapAndClay thank you❤ and thank you for being so awesome. Your voice is so relaxing and I'm learning so much. I think a lot of you and you inspire my creative side. I may not be able to start some big business but I can definitely pamper me and my friends lol
What are the little pieces of what look like plastic that you take off the BB once they are dry? Almost looks like pieces of broken plastic molds? Purpose?
Hey! They’re broken bath bomb molds. I use them as cradles so the bombs don’t get flat bottoms.
Yeppers! I can tell you've made a bomb or two! 😁 I'm enjoying this series for sure but could you please make it look a little more difficult?! 😂
😂😂😂 right?!?
Ha! I’ve had some disastrous experiments over the years that we’ve all laughed about. 😂
Hello, if you use water to make bath bombs, l, do you need a add a preservative?
Hey! Good question! You don’t need a preservative in this as the water is consumed during the mix and drying.
So I made my 2nd ever batch of bombs day before yesterday and I used your back to basics recipe but I did use about 2 tablespoons of blue clay in the portion of corn starch. I used the tablespoon of water and my humidity for my area is 86% wow! But no problem with warts or them expanding, but they are soft and crumbling like your white portion of this bomb without water… so my mistake NF logics this out to mean I didn’t use enough water… do you think that’s my problem? Or could it be the clay maybe?
Hey! I would add a bit more water or spritz the bombs with witch hazel afterwards if you’re using clay. This will help form that shell faster.
So cute
