He’s a living jukebox. At his core, he is an amazing musician who just happens to be an insane shredder.
One of the best shredders. Hands down. Excellent choice to cover Paul and his work. Randy Rhoads did a guitar clinic in Greenburg, PA. In early 1982 , and who was there but Paul Gilbert as a teenager. i would've killed to have been there. Great content as always it's one of the best channels if you want to know the most about great rock musicians. Thanks again ! 💯🔥🎸
Thanks again Joe I really do appreciate it man!
Is this a town where prog Rock/metal bands/gods play regularly? That's where I saw Dream Theater!😆
@riverdrake836 sometimes hotbeds can be some of the most surprising places lol. I had no idea the best Greek food came from Chicago!
@@guitarmeetsscience you rock brother , great stuff you bring to us . Thank you . 💥🎸🇺🇸💯
@@riverdrake836 wow
Paul is the most complete guitar player I've heard.🤘 An Elite shredder who can also play "mainstream" music.🔥
Absolutely spot on assessment!
my absolute favorite. met him several times. i flew out to his warm up show In LA for his upcoming Europe tour. This was the show that started the mr big reunion.. Pat torpey was playing in Richie kotzens band... who was the opener. Billy sheehan showed up and they did an encore of mr big tunes with Richie singing. Got to meet him them all afterwards and Paul remembered me from correspondence we had.
Damn that had to have been awesome! Thank you for sharing your experience. I can imagine the show was great, And the fact you got to meet all of them was pretty cool in and of itself.
Yeah hes my favorite player too. I dont like any of the music he makes with any of the bands hes been in but his playing and instruction are top notch.
I saw Mr Big live back in 1990 I my hometown of Redding California. Paul rocked our little Civic Auditorium, which since has been taken over by a mega-church. 🤢
Luv Paul Gilbert!
No doubt - Paul is the man! Very humble and shreds like a beast
It was late 1985 early 1986 and my band was practicing at Hotdog Sound Studio in Arleta California. WE were taking a break from our practice set and a couple of guys poked theirs heads in our room and said, "what's up?" we talked for a few minutes, and they went back to setting up their equipment in the big sound room next to ours. We went back to playing until our time was up and we started breaking down our equipment to put it back in our lockout cabinet. It was at this time I heard music coming from the next room. I could not believe my ears! I had never heard such musicianship in my life! These guys were unbelievable! I asked the sound guy at the front desk "Who are these guys???" He said they are a new band called "Racer X", They just started practicing here a few weeks ago. We walked back down the hall and poked our heads in their door and noticed it was the same guys we had talked to earlier. The bass player said we could watch for a few if we wanted. We hung out for a few, but our presence seemed like a distraction, so we only sat in for about 1 song. Talk about a humbling experience ☹. After we walked out, we just kind of stood around and looked at each other in our practice room while we put the rest of our gear away. We thought we were pretty good until that night. These guys weren't even on the same planet as us! I am not a great guitar player; I am decent but nothing special. These guys had me asking myself "why am I even bothering?!?" They were that good! We saw them practice there a few more times but we knew they wouldn't be practicing at that dump for very long 😆
One hell of a cool story brother Thanks for sharing that!
One of my all time favorites !! I am a product of the hair metal era and Paul was there shredding his ass off !
He was totally blowing minds!!! He really brought it to another level entirely.
Paul Gilbert just wound up being a truly decent human being with an immense talent, & a zest for music & life! 🤘❤️
Very good video!
You're absolutely right - Paul is truly a class act. Great player great educator and great guy. Thank you so much I really appreciate it! 🙏
I agree with you thumbnail title. Yes he does... Yes he does indeed!
Haha yes he does!!! Thank you bud 🤘🤘
Nice video and performance 👍👍👍 Have a good day 😉 Greetings 😎
Thank you! You too!
Thank you for this video. Paul takes the number one spot for me and is still incredibly underrated in the mainstream. People paint him as a super shredder who later went bluesy but he was still a young guy for the first few Mr Big albums and his playing and writing on those albums was fantastic. Not show off shred but exactly what each song needed to be their best and with great melodies.
These days he’s making fantastic solo albums and has also become one of the best teachers you will find. His enthusiasm for all types of music and for teaching is infectious.
Then of course he can still run rings around most player and blow them off the stage if he wanted.
Thank you so much - and for sharing your take on Paul. That is a spot-on assessment!
And as he gets older he just gets so much fucking cooler…
Exactly!
I wish he would have played on the Hear N' Aid song project.
That would have been amazing!!!
Of all alternate pickers I like Paul's picking attack and style style the most.🤘 He was the most influential on my technique. Him and Yngwie
both were the ones that lit a real fire under my A$$ to get better on guitar!
He really does have a great picking attack - agreed 100%
@@guitarmeetsscience Yeah when he released "Intense Rock I" I as Hooked! I studied that video like a religion!
He had me practicing for 9-12 hours a day working on my technique.
@These_go_to_eleven_1959 Right on! I had a similar experience with Frank Gambale monster licks and speed picking.... Dude put me through the ringer lmao
I saw Paul with Racer X a dozen times back in his club days in L.A. from '86 to '88. I've met the band too, all very nice people. I believe it became evident to Paul that Racer X was a limited platform for his talents, and the opportunity to form Mr. Big with Billy Sheehan, who was already a high name, was a better deal. Eric Martin had the look and the voice whereas Jeff Martin, a great singer, didn't have the pretty boy looks frontmen were required to have in the hair metal 80s. I was never much of a Mr. Big fan, but I always admired their talent and they are a good party band. Very upbeat music.
I really like your breakdown - that sums it up perfectly! It's cool that you had a chance to meet them especially back in those days. Seemed like a pretty cool bunch of guys. What was cool about Mr Big is that it gave One of the real shredders of the day an actual platform to build a career off of. Like you, I agree that a lot of their material didn't hit as hard for my tastes. But hearing that first album and how he integrated his guitar chops definitely was a treat. I think after that it felt like their production ran away with them and didn't have that immediacy. Kudos to Paul though - it totally took him to another level, and it turned out to also widen the reach of racer x when he reformed them.
My ex best friend got to meet Paul Gilbert in a guitar contest he won back in the late 90's that Guitar Center hosted here in Vegas.
That is pretty cool! By all accounts Gilbert is a great guy
Ibanez PGM with slide magnet. ✌️🤘🇦🇺
The magnet is a brilliant idea!! Kudos to Paul🤘🤘
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also Saturday was my friends birthday also may the fourth be with you also happy star wars day Jimmy ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you! You too!
He was some guitarist Jimmy! like 111.
Thanks Davie!!!
Awesome !!!
🤘🤘
Awesome 👍🎸
Thanks ✌️
Great vid
Thank you very very much!!!!
I remember when he came out actually I grew up in Greensburg I was 4 years older than him
Fun fact a lot of people don’t know Paul Gilbert taught Buckethead at the age of 18, buckethead was 15 and took only 5 lessons from Paul!
That is definitely an awesome fact! I'm covering that one a little more in depth on the upcoming buckethead video. Provided it passes all copyright checks that should be up in a few minutes 🤘😎🤘
@@guitarmeetsscience I can’t wait for it!! If you think so In one of your upcoming videos could you cover Prince ???
@@Sixn3R A few other FF's, I attended G.I.T. as a student at the same time Paul was also just a student there. Then learned some chops from Paul himself while in school & continued to do so even after I graduated G.I.T. as well as a couple other friends of mine who are monster shredders. One of my friends named Mike Szuter who's also a good friend of Paul's, has played on many of Gilbert's tours in Japan is an all around great musician & killer guitarist in his own right, no bout a doubt it. I could go on, but I thought I'd share a bit of my own personal relationship with Paul back in the day. +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+ 🤘😜🤘
YOUZZAAA !
great L87
Thank you! Cheers!
I could use Gilberts 4-6 licks properly after I tried Petruccis 1 minute legato practice, before that I could do it but very sloppy!had Intense Rock 1-2 on vhs untill they got stolen!
Damn! Well I hope the VHS thief at least put in some time practicing to it! That's a great lesson series!
Paul eats stainless frets for breakfast......
Hahaha Yes he does! The dude is Godzilla of the guitar world!
Paul left hand pinky is more musical n faster than most pewny flesh creatures assuming to be fast players
Haha very true!!
Hopefully when Im reincarnated Ill come back with big hands like Paul, and Jimi.
I hear you there! Both of them could hammer on and pull off a perfect fifth if they wanted to!
From guitar shredder to down-to-earth, unpretentious youtuber.
You made my day! Thank you so very much!!!
Pauls awesome,...but playes the same stuff he did in Racer X,....he hasn't matured or evolved,......look at Richie Kotzen,.....he could play all this shed stuff at 17,......but evolved into this blues singer song writer that has an ever evolving style,......paul plays scales fast then,...and fast scales now
He went bald, he will fade into obscurity now.
Well I wouldn't count him out just yet - I think satriani can show him the way and prove they're truly is life after hair
@@guitarmeetsscience I hope so.
