- From the Forever Changes Concert at London's Royal Festival Hall. This is a live recording of the first two songs of the performance. The songs are Alone Again Or and A House is Not a Motel.
Mike Randel adds some great lead guitar to "A House Is Not A Motel".
I'm so glad that Arthur Lee got to experience a little of the fame he richly deserved.
RIP
The most under rated artist in rock history
Along with Brian McClean.
@@Dive-Bar-Casanova Do you know who wrote most of Loves songs? BM or AL?
totally agree
Love Arthur Lee he was the very best, miss him so much
Love is the best group ever, and love Arthur Lee
words do fail. He was one of the greatest stars of his age. Forever Changes ranks with Pet Sounds, Revolver, etc.
My favourite bands! Beach Boys, Beatles and Love x
Agreed.
Arthur , you made the world a nicer place to live , and still do : ) : )
@howard bianchi And over coming all that this band puts out an incredible Swan Song DVD.
When I heard he was going to play Bingos 365 Club in San Francisco I made that 400 mile return trip to see them.
So glad I did, they were Amazing🎉
A bitter pill to swallow perhaps, but a bit better than those bands.
Frankly, to my ears Arthur Lee is much better than Kurt Cobain, and Love is much better than Nirvana. Yet every day folks rarely hear of Arthur Lee, while Kobain is mythologized and Nirvana heralded as the "sound of a generation." Tells you something. All I know is, Arthur Lee was brilliant and unique and deserving of more accolades for his accomplishments than he received during his lifetime.
Absolutely
If he hadn’t died nobody would think Cobain was all that great.
really an under rated musician
Asmuch as I liked KC and Nirvana, they never wrote a song like A House is not a Motel, let alone Seven and Seven is
why even compare?
Alone Again Or....absolutely classic song....the whole album is brilliant. Man, whatever that was in the water that produced this generation of American and British musicians, I sure wish we could find it again. They were absolutely extraordinary. The list is endless...Lee, Hendrix, Page, Townshend, Dylan, Lennon, McCartney, Young, Gilmour, Barrett, Joplin, Gaye, Mayfield, Waters, Marley, Fogerty, Plant, Bonham, JPJ, Davies, Mitchell, Aretha, Wonder, Wilson.....truly unreal.
Yep I'm sure glad they were all in my life back then people had imagination & time. They wrote the lyrics they put it to music and when it was an excellent song they all went around the world playing in so many places. They don't do that today. And they had real instruments and learned to use them in amazing ways creating a sound so good.
Please don't leave out The Doors
@@martynjack1493 да, Джим Моррисон был оригиналом до конца, он достоин места в этом долбаной списке
On this tour Arthur played a small club here in Crewe ( the much missed Limelight) the owner had never heard of him and was totally gobsmacked when every ticket was bought in a matter of a few days with people coming from all over the country, and what a night it was ! My Brother and I crushed together with an audience encompassing teenagers ,septigenarians and everyone inbetween, luckily later managed to get a S/board recording of what was probably the finest gig I ever attended.
You are blessed
Lucky guy I missed out in York.
Saw them here in Newcastle under Lyme too 🙂
I would "Love" to get a good recording of this concert.
Same tour. To my eternal shame, I had only found "Forever Changes" about 6 months earlier (in my Forties then!!), and I saw them at Woburn (sold out). Got tickets for the Royal Festival Hall in 2003 for the whole shebang with brass and strings for the album - WHAT A DAY!
Waaaay before Hendrix, there was Arthur Lee. Imagine going to the Whisky in 1967 and seeing this, preceded by the local house band, The Doors. Happened often. And people wonder why the 60s were considered so special for music.
Love, 1966, Santa Monica Civic. $3.00.
@@barrycowan3540 Funny you mention the Civic. I grew up in Santa Monica and saw a ton of shows there. '66 was a little early for me but I was a regular starting in 1970.
I missed the show by Love
It's a real shame that more people aren't aware of the music of Love, spread the word, this is real music.......
This is not rock and roll this is pure power.
Thank you for filming and recording this performance. I saw Love many times in the 60's in Hollywood. They were my favorite band at the time. Live performances always sounded like the albums. Their 3rd album, Forever Changes, stands up to all greatest albums, including Pet Sounds, and Sgt Pepper. So unknown to many, he was one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
Love and Spirit, the two most underappreciated bands from LA....
..from the Time Coast....
Another good group, though from SF instead of LA was Fever Tree.
I hope a documentary comes out some day. the fans are out here. RIP Arthur.
There IS a (British) documentary: it's called "LOVE STORY"
Shout out to his band members..Baby lemonade. They recreated the sound perfectly
They were excellent.
@@jospinvanraat8730
Agree, excellent
excellent.
Baby Lemonade! 🙌
Named after a Syd Barrett song.
The year 1964 Aquarius theater Hollywood, The band called love opening tune My Little Red Book.....been a fan ever since ...a true artist and 1 of the most underrated musicians ever. The year 2008 Anaheim Calif ..had the privilege and the honor of seeing and listening to Arthur Lee and love again and still the best ..Arthur will be missed but not forgotten R.I.P
Still sounds as fresh today as it did in 1967! RIP Arthur!
I completely agree...It is definitely in the top 10 albums ever produced.
Hats off to the Forever Changes Ensemble
Love and the Byrds were the sound in Los Angeles when I was growing up here. Of course the Byrds went on to much larger fame, which I never understood why Love never really did. So I had the chance to see themm several times in the 60's and early 70's as well as three more times after Arthur's release from prison before his death. The last shows he did along with this clip were incredible. Arthur never sounded better than he did the last few years of his life.
The Johnny Schools interview tells us that Arthur didn't want to travel but crucially , being a mixed race band they could not play to mixed audiences as the south USA was still segregated despite the civil rights bill of 64 65. So they stayed in California.
@@elainekerslake6865 I heard it was bc Arthur didn't want to be away from his heroin dealer (when he was w Love) According to him years later when he was sober. He didn't tour w Baby Lemonade bc he was sick w csncer
I introduced my son to Love when I thought he was ready He thought they were shit He went to see them at the Royal Festival Hall in 2003 He now tells me they were the greatest band ever I’m not the sort of guy who would say I told you so You little punk I’m 68 and he’s 6’4”
Then I will tell him for you, TOLD YOU SO!!
Brings tears to the eyes !
An awesome little mini-set of songs. During my psychedelic 60's days, I only heard Little Red Book and, other than that, I was really not aware of the output of Love. Alone Again Or is right up there with best work of any artist of that period (Doors, Beach Boys, Spirit, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles you name it). Actually written by Bryan MacClean and sung here by Arthur (Bryan on the original version). An awesome post of the music of two guys and a band that frankly never got its complete due. Thanks. RIP Bryan and Arthur.
One of the best albums ever produced. I loved it in the late 60's and still love it today.
One of my favourite albums.I got no particular order, but if I was marooned on a desert island, this would be a must have!
And here we are nearly at the end of 2022 and I still totally agree with you ! Good wishes from Cambridge UK . Dave
@@davestreatfield2527 not too far from me I guess...Essex.
the pinnacle riff of a house is not a motel on this live version which the bass player plays and then when the guitars join in at around 7.33 is one of my favourites ever. gives me goosebumps everytime
probably the best youtube vid of all time that doesn't have more than 100,000 views. which is truly wrong
I love these guys to death, RIP Arhur
The group is Baby Lemonade, the lead guitarist is Mike Randle (good website)
This is a literally flawless album.
What a great performance of 2 super songs! I Would have liked to have been there for this concert. R.I.P. Arthur
All you need is LOVE
No one else even came close.
So rare and unique in a time of Doors, Byrds, Jimi, Janis and beyond.
Thank you Arthur and may you forever RIP....... great troubadour of music .
Thank YOU hershoreline for this first class video and sound.
This concert should be released on video and CD
Amazing
There is a CD release of this concert in London, actually my favorite album. I can tell this is the it, because of all the same crowd sounds and a exact arrangements. “Forever Changes Concert” I don’t know about a DVD I’m going to look for one.
That KILLER guitar solo..outro by the fantastic Mike Randle starting at 6:14 ...WOW ! Reminds me of when I saw the great Vernon Reid going OFF at a Living Colour concert a few years back !! Good stuff !
Tears tears tears brocken hearts
Rest in peace sweet Arthur......
Wow what a tight band! Loved the guitar riffs!
Wow your comment is 14 years old incredible
Excellent! R.I.P. Arthur.
I had the incredible pleasure of presenting Arthur and this superb band in concert about five years ago, and it was a transcendent moment, it really was. A real gentleman to work with, sweet guy. The DVD from which these two songs come is brilliant, and I'll admit it still chokes me up. Bless you Arthur, blue skies and green lights or whatever version they have of that where you are now. I hope you're at peace.
What a treat! Thank you a thousand times for uploading this! Love was a fantastic group.
Crazy
This comment was 15 years ago unbelievable
One of the most EPIC underrated rockers!
RIP
Fabulous melody and voice.Emotional.x Saw him twice...magic.
Beautiful, thankyou for the love in your heart Arthur Lee...
I listen to the music of today and nothing compares with Love, what an amazing concert that must have been at the Albert Hall. RIP Mr Lee, your music and spirit live on.
R.I.P. Arthur. We miss you dearly : (
Arthur Lee = enlightened being
We still have the original album that my wife 1st played for me in 1968. I was bluntly blown away. Fast forward 43 years to last month when I found this concert on Netflix. Once again both of us were stunned by Arthur Lee's album. He had a presence only matched by Brudda Iz and Jimmy.
Love the strings and trumpets on this track. Great band great album.
BEAUTIFUL
Everytime I hear this song it makes shiver.
Love his headband.
best musician ever!!! and the most underrated!! a gem for real music fans in a crazy x factor wannabe crap world!!!
I am enchanted. This is what rock and roll is and should be. Brilliant.
The production of this concert is better than 99 % of the stuff you get anymore.
rip AL. This album will live on !
Just fabulous - absolutely fabulous.
Great songwriter, unique! Unsung, but not forgotten by the rest of us!
I was glad to see Johnny Echols on this. His importance in creating the Love sound is under appreciated. Love would never have been successful without him.
50 years on - still the best.
I just cannot stop listening to Love, Arthur Lee was outstanding , a genius . Love everything he's done ❤
Being an old band rocker in the late 60s, I am so happy AL's sound is to f*cking tight! Really happy and amazed that it is put together so well. A lot of effort and dedication.
Wow, this has really moved me. Wish I'd seen him on this tour, the live orchestra sounds amazing! R.I.P.
saw the original line up in 1966 (7) touring on the first album, at earl warren showgrounds, santa barbara calif. they were really good!...
i saw original in 66, too ! at the Hullabaloo , Hollywood. 9
@@bobfriedman409 You guys lived every music lover's dream. To be on the Strip in 1966 and hear Love and The Doors.
Every now and then I have a "Forever Changes " day not sure what it does but I go off somewhere!
Saw this in Manchester. The horn solo had everyone floored. What a night.
I have been listening to this album for the last six months constantly. Beautiful and fascinating.
Arthur, over coming drug addiction and prison, this band puts out an incredible Swan Song DVD.
When I heard he was going to play Bingos 365 Club in San Francisco, some years ago, I made that 400 mile return trip to see them.
So glad I did, they were Amazing🎉
Great,dude.
Those minor chords still send a shiver down my spine.
Brilliant - words fail here.
The pen is broke, the page is torn.
Arthur loved music so much, plus he was a real musical genius, and humble all he wanted was to play music, all he could think of in jail, some of the top producers even couldn't believe how naturally talented he was. He loved his group, music and entertaining others selfishly. Him and Brian Wilson is about the only others like him.
He was so amazing. Beautiful.
I was at this show. It exceeded all expectations.
There's something about his songs, his delivery of those songs...just gets to ya! Love Arthur Lee!
Remembering Arthur Lee of "LOVE", who died on this day in 2006 of cancer. Besides his own musical accomplishments, Arthur was also responsible for convincing Jac Holzman of Elektra Records to sign an unknown band called THE DOORS. Arthur was 61 ; (
What a brilliant band ! Arthur pure class as usual.
Awesome - I had tears when they started Alone Again Or at Town Hall a few years ago
Arthur Lee is amazing!
Was
Greatly missed
This is my jam since 1967
I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!
Saw this show at Town Hall in NYC in either 2003 or 2004. It was an amazing eve. The band was so into it.
🔥🔥🔥🔥 REAL LEGENDS NEVER DIE!!
was lucky to see the love revisited tour last year featuring johnny echols!.......johnny had amazing cool and charisma like arthur!.... played the main 3 classic albums!.....absolutely blinding!....was in 7&7th heaven !!!!!!! :)
I have been to many concerts over the decades and this one was tops!
dreamlike , just awesome
it finally dawned on me that arthur was sick through all this and not letting on.
allways a hat in this and other incarnations during that period the hat is ever present
the other version that toured after this was great also with johnny echols
a great album..
These guys are fantastically and in person were great-I bounced for them in Manchester in 1970
I heard the music of Love for the first time about 2 years ago, among them Forever changes and Da capo: an absolute REVELATION and "earopener": LOVE IT!!!
I love the way this song displays longing...very heart felt.
Platitudes of solitude.
Creative genius, quite beautiful...
Timeless brilliance!
Exquisite - and to think I didn't know about them back in the 60's - this would have been one of my favorite albums!
Grande Arthur Lee, soy un fanàtico de culto de Love, una de las màs hermosas canciones de todos los tiempos.
never can get over how much this fellas captured my heart. art in music.
I was 12 when I heard of Love and have been listening to the same three albums still at 69.. Doors as well as Miles Davis and John Coltrane at that time too.
What a great performance !
Yes, I saw them at Bido Lito's too.
I got this DVD and listened to it today.
I've always thought "Old Man" was their finest work.
I think Arthur was a prophet, just listen to how he spells out his life (in advance)
I saw Love at The Cheetah in 1967. A friend, English Hillary, was his manager in the early 90's. Seeing him now after all these years fills me with a mixture of Joy and Sadness. Remembering is like that
The greatest band ever.
Thanks for this trip down memory lane! I wore their LP’s out. Fabulous band and definitely underrated artist in a brilliant time for innovative music. LOVE this!
BEAUTIFUL
I'M WITH TEARS
Such a great album!... thank you Arthur Lee and Love for spreading some of your beauty around!
Remembering Arthur Today 3-07-2021, on what would have been his 71st birthday ; (
One of the greatest bands ever
