Hi, Dereverb was only introduced a few versions back so you'd need to subscribe to Creative Cloud to get the latest release to be able to use this feature.
Hi Mike I was facing a serious trouble with my audio because my room is not acoustic treated. It helped me to a certain extent to avoid the echo and to gain a good amount of quality audio for my youtube videos. Thank you for your tutorial on Deverb.

Hey Mike, thank you very much for this tutorial. Could you please make another tutorial on how to eliminate the high pitched sibilance frequency on old cassette recordings?
Wow! Just discovered your video and am SUPER stoked! I have clients who bring me audio and want me to fix them and this will add so much value! Thanks for all you do!
This is very informative Mike, thank you. What I would like to know is how can we deploy this deverberate effect, without introducing artifacts into the recording? Something I notice is that after using dereverberate, is that it seems to create these lightly perceptible - what I can only describe as - mini duration high pitched ringing bell sounds in the background. How can that potentially be mitigated? Just like any other noise reduction/repair feature (in my case also using adaptive noise reduction), I only implement dereverb with the lightest touch. Never more than 10% max. In addition to utilizing the autogate feature in tandem. Yet I still find this byproduct difficult to avoid, lest remove. Since I record with a very distant remote co-host, who cannot always record in an ideal acoustic setting - I encounter this frequently while editing. Given the ringing bell sound’s short duration, and that it tends to obfuscate itself on the spectrograph within other sounds present, the solution is quite allusive. Any further insight you can provide on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for all the invaluable information you’ve provide Mike. It really has helped me significantly in learning Audition.
@@clairelindsay6951 Yes I did, but it took some doing, and the actual dereverberate plugin for Adobe was not involved. It was a problem where the solution was a combination of elements. Some of it is unique to my situation, and I don’t know what your projects entail. Either way, I hope some this is of use to you: - So foremost, my remote co-host acquired a proper broadcast studio dynamic mic, the Røde Podcaster. In combination with sending him my previous mixer, it made a tremendous difference. He had been using the original Blue Yeti, which given where he recorded made things worse. From experience, I’d never recommend most people doing podcasts (especially co hosted ones) use a condenser. Unless they’re in a suitably sound treated recording area. Making that change went a long way, and it diminished the reverb at the source by simply not picking up so much of it as the Yeti did. This also included using a reasonable amount of proximity effect on his end - downing out what’s happening around him. - As I mentioned in my question (credit to Mike as I learned this from him), using the Autogate plugin (the noise gate, expander without the coupled single band compressor) has been invaluable addressing the issue, especially with proper applicable settings while recording. So real time application, without it being too aggressive so as not to cut off words. After normalization in post, I fine tune the gate/expander more precisely. - As for the dereverb effect offered in Adobe, I honestly find it to be too blunt a tool. I was never able to escape the ringing bell artifacts. So I actually abandoned even using it, and had to acquire iZotope RX7 Standard. This would be a bit much for many creators given the cost factor. Though with the recent release of RX8, there may be a deal out there - relatively speaking - for RX7 Standard. I don’t believe the RX Elements version includes dereverb. The only reason I went to that extent was due to the necessity in my particular situation. That and the reverb was driving me batty. So long story short, I simply had to make the dry recordings themselves contain less reverb, cutting off the problem at its source. As for what remained, that required a new tool entirely. This is unfortunate, because Adobe overall has amazing effects offerings in general. However it’s dereverberate just wasn’t one of them. Perhaps a more experienced hand than myself could make it work, but I could not. As I said, I hope some of this is useful in your situation.
My sound guy added crazy reverb to a live performance recording. He doesn't have the original file anymore and he doesn't know how to fix it. Is there any way to de-reverb it? does this strategy work for reverb added in post?

Mike, what shall I do If I got no DeReverb option in my "noise reduction and restoration" effects? It's not displayed. Is there a way to search for it manually? Thanks in advance. Your videos are really educational.
Awesome video Mike, I was just wondering if you can help me answer this question? So the Bundesliga “German soccer league” just restarted again after a long break due to the covid-19 outbreak. They’re allowing these games to take place behind closed doors, which means fans aren’t allowed to attend these games. So the other day I was watching a streamed game on tv and I couldn’t help but listen to the very very noticeable echo coming from the players yelling at each other! I was just wondering if the sound engineers could use the DeReverb method to cancel the echo?

Hey Mike you have a lot of videos to scroll through was just wondering if you could tell me which ones talk about turning the volume up in select parts? I'm currently trying it right now but it seems to not go into the actual multi track itself. I only started editing today and am pretty confused :/
Amazing and useful tips. I'm getting problems though with the Autogate option. I think it's because of the audio files. The room i'm recording its far from good (a lot of reverb and noise) im getting it very decent with some effects and I'd love to include the Autogate aswell but when im adding it, because of the small room, you can hear the other hosts in the audio im tring to fix and the autogate its letting some of the other persons in. I'll fix it manually silencing when it let it though. Hopefully we change the location soon so we get more space and the microphones just get the peson it should and not more of the other guests.
I'd recommend trying a more aggressive threshold setting on the Autogate to help minimize picking up background noise from other hosts in the small room until you can change locations, good luck!
Another great video. Thinking I can preserve more of my original audio by using the AutoGate *within* Audition, instead of using gate on VoiceMeeter. Tend to make it clippy, and once it's recorded that way, there's no fixing it later. Glad to see that. (To others reading, you need to be in the Waveform (not multitrack) view to do the statistics scan. Took me a minute! :)

I've had an ongoing issue with my adobe Audirion program not installing correctly. It seems sometimes it installs right at others it does not let the stereo imagery work correctly. Can you tell me how to make a clean install every time. I tried cleaning my pc several times on my drive.
In Adobe Audition, the "DeReverb" tool is located under the "Effects" menu, not in the default toolbar. You can access it by navigating to Effects > Noise Reduction/Restoration > DeReverb.
Generally repair the audio before doing any other processing so you'd want to remove any echo / reverb before doing any other processing. Applying processing such as Auphonic would make it much more difficult to remove echo.
question i am trying to record an audio and when i plug my headphones into the mic and listen to myself- i sound perfect however when i use my mic and record on my mac in audition its-its awful: its not rich, i sound a bit hollow and metallic and its not very clear whats the problem and how do i fix it?
The easiest fix is to record in an acoustically treated space as any reverb reduction tool will degrade audio quality. You certainly would not be recommended to use Dereverb or any reverb reduction plug-in if these are being recorded for professional use.
Hi Mike, great videos. I learned a lot from you thank you so much. I have one issue I don't know how to fix. I have a video that is 25 fps but the audio track is 24. Original was a movie shot in 16mm film. How do I adjust the Audio to stay synced with the 25fps video?
Hey Neels, adjust the video clip lengths instead of the audio. I have been doing the exact same thing with digital transfers of 16mm. If you adjust the audio you will hear the difference, if you adjust the video length you won't notice it. If you have to chop up the video into small clips and every time it goes out of sync make an other cut and adjust that clip. You can adjust the clip duration in Premiere.
I did the same. Searched everywhere and posted the question on forums and never got an answer. Trial and error showed me that any increase or decrease of more than 1 or 2 percent was a noticeable pitch change in dialogue. Maybe you can get away with it in music. I found it was actually easier to mark two sync points in Premiere, line up the audio to the first one and then adjust the video clip length incrementally until it lines up with the second one.
Who knows why when using the DeVerberate plugin I lose some words on the audio track? For example, I have a fully recorded segment, but when using this plugin, "pits" are created during the playback of the segment after processing. In the middle of a sentence, words disappear, and then everything goes fine again, and so on with a certain periodicity on the segment.
DeReverb will reduce the quality of the audio. The higher you push the settings the lower the quality of the final audio. Recording in a sound treated environment would remove the need for DeReverb and allow you better quality audio.
Hey Mike, I am working on a podcast and a guest didn't use headphones so I've got an audio file now that picked up everyone's voice is there a way to remove it? I was hoping this would help but it didn't. I don't mind going through and silencing parts but there are other parts where there's slight talk over that I want to remove.
Without hearing the audio it's hard to say. I fear not though if there are people speaking over each other. My best suggestion would be to try a noise gate to trap out the noise on that track but even that may not work depending on how long the unwanted voices are. You could try posting a sample in our community and see if any of us over there could help with a suggestion or two having heard it community.musicradiocreative.com/

Mike, what version do you use that has de-reverb, because my version 11.0.0 doesn't have that feature.
DeReverb was introduced after this version. Go into the creative cloud app and update all your apps to the latest version to get the latest features.
@@MikeRussell Thanks so very much, your videos help me a tremendous amount. Cheers
👍
Thank you bro, you save my life
Glad to have helped
@@MikeRussell I really appreciate your quick response! I'll post it over there when I get out of work. Thank you
I’ll keep an eye out and hopefully between the community we can get something working for you.
Sounds useful. But my version don't hv these functions:(
Mine is Adobe Audition CC 2018
Go into the creative cloud app and update all apps. You’ll find these in the latest version of Adobe Audition.
2:49 my average RMS is -72 which is lesser than the minimum value of the threshold
Great video, thanks!
Thank you
I have a question. I was editing half way but I think me swapping to my airpods on my windows to test out the sound had messed with my audio because I had toggled settings :( and my my audio sounds more echoey than before. How do I reset my settings back does anyone know (if that's the problem)
I would not suggest using Airpods for any kind of critical listening or editing.
@@MikeRussell I didn't. I just used it for testing, wanted to see how it would sound on my airpods
Brilliant, thank you sir.
Thank you
I cant find dereverb in my premiere bro plz help me out....
Hi, this is being done in Adobe Audition. You'd have to edit the audio from Premiere Pro in Audition.
@@MikeRussell yeah I tried both but not I cont find the dereverb effect.. thank you for reply
Make sure you are running the latest version of Adobe Audition. If you have an earlier version it might not be there.
Thanks man, you helped me out of a bind
Dereverb is nowhere to be found on my effects. Not under Noise reduction, etc. Any ideas?
It's in the latest version or Adobe Audition (2020).
@@MikeRussell Hey Mike you are AWESOME! I found it under the Adaptive Noise Reduction tab. I have 2018, but am glad it was there. Thanks so much! My show goes public on January 1st and I am stoked!
