Reflecting back on this video, I have to say that I am kind of annoyed at how I used the word "SJW". This video was made during a different time in my life where I was very reactionary. I actually included that opinion here because I was in an environment where I thought that racial changes in casting was considered "bad" by the general public. While my views overall of having racial swaps of characters *has not changed* (I want to reiterate that I have no problem with it, if that wasn't clear in the video), I will admit that I would like to see more original content with diverse protagonists rather than adaptations of previously existing IPs. In this same video, I stated that I enjoyed Star Vs The Forces Of Evil's second and third seasons, and never actually got around expressing my thoughts on the rest of the show. I have now seen the whole series, and believe it or not, my thoughts are still kind of unpopular. As a whole... I think the finale has problems but it is an overly hated series. (SPOILER WARNING. Also if you weren't a fan of season one that much because you didn't like the pacing, Ludo, Ponyhead, etc., or found it annoying, I would highly recommend still watching it for serialization and continuing with season two as the characters become a lot more strongly written and it becomes a lot more mature in tone. The comedy gets a lot better too). Many of the criticisms I've heard about Star Vs The Forces Of Evil honestly sound very dismissive. I didn't get the sense that the romantic conflicts were being influenced by the fanbase, nor did I feel like it was oversaturating the overarching story. It had been in the DNA of the very first season, and actually added a lot of strong character depth and growth. There wasn't "too much" of it either like people say there was. Season three and season four still primarily focus on original stories themselves. Was the finale flawed? Absolutely. But I wasn't necessarily against the removal of magic, as it was actually foreshadowed in the beginning with Toffee (they also literally gave a 14-year-old this potent tool without thinking much of it, and she struggled with it throughout the series). I didn't find it unrealistic that Moon was still kind of a bigot in the end either. Do you think people's views change overnight? There was even an episode about that very subject when Rhombulus and Eclipsa were fighting. Moon's extreme views returning were also foreshadowed with Mina later on in the season, as well as her statement about not trusting Eclipsa. I admit the pacing of that situation could have been dealt with better, but I actually thought it was refreshing to see Moon acting more villainous. It made me glad the series didn't exclusively treat the divide as if the monsters were equally in the wrong. I was really scared it was going in that direction, and the finale prevented that. My only problem with the finale is that, again it was paced poorly, and that it should have treated the removal of magical beings a bit more delicately. I can understand it being the lesser of two evils, and possibly the only way to stop another genocide from happening, but I could understand why people might get the wrong impression and be upset at that aspect. It was a heavy scenario that should have been treated more respectfully. I didn't think that Star was "acting out of character" for removing magic in of itself though. She has developed strongly throughout the show and has an entirely different perspective from when she did in season one. Heckapoo and Glossorick not caring about magic being gone isn't very surprising either. Heckapoo is literally immortal and it was foreshadowed that Glossoryck thought destroying Toffee (who was magic and wanted to destroy all magic as well) was a mistake too. That doesn't particularly make (allegedly) killing the others off right necessarily, even with the argument that the council was bad, but I just wanted to point that out. I'm also kind of confused about that comment I made about Mabel in this video. I think Mabel's a great character, and I can't remember what criticisms I was referring to. Then again, I've also rewatched Gravity Falls multiple times since I made this video.
I have to agree with you on the whole meta humor thing; it's turned into another overused trope. Although when it is done right, it's great. I just finished watching Regular Show for the first time and, even though there was that kind of 4th wall breaking/meta humor, it didn't effect the show. Like wacky stuff happens, but everyone just rolls with it, and I think that cavalier attitude made the series finale that much more impactful.
Honestly I don’t care about the live action Disney movies but it can kinda be annoying when they cast people to play certain characters that don’t look or act like them enough to portray that character. For example Emma Watson playing Belle, her singing did not sound like Belles and she just felt out of place in my opinion. Another one is Beyoncé playing Nala in the Lion King. Her voice did not match up to nala’s voice in the animated version, especially in the Can You Feel the Love Tonight.
To me Star vs the Forces of Evil was no different than other fantasy adventure show that came before in Disney XD and Jetix... I don't understand why it got so popular when most of these shows were pretty obscure.
If you ever do finish SVTFOE, I'd love to hear what you think about the last season and the finale. I don't want to spoil anything about it in case you haven't, but its reception was incredibly mixed (which I guess isn't that far out there, it seems like this show has always left people conflicted). I'd love to hear what it was like for someone who's had mixed opinions on the show to begin with. I've just found your channel and I love your stuff, I think you articulate your points very well. :)
if you want my opinion on the matter cuase i was mixed from the start and only finished it cuase my freind wanted someone to talk to it about. and in my opinion it fealt as evrything that i liked about the show was put aside for wish fufillment. ive never leaft a show having so many qeustions but not wanting another season. the final season was just really downhill in general considering how they dealt with fanservice. the fanservice did a diservece to evryone and yet still managed to feel forced
not to mention how they manage to butcher the characters and ships. Star becomes a jerk. marco is at first having a lot of relationship problemes witch i thought was a cool take on it and the fact the bloodmoon curse was ruining the ships was kinda cool but then it was clear that those ships where just there to show how marco is "meant for star" and it was clear after they gave kelco an offscreen breakup. they kept tom the same but he was always getting the short end of the stick in order for other characters to get thier wants. jarco had such a good chemistry and the ship worked and i thought the idea that the blood moon curse works agianst any ships. i thought that early on the blooodmoon bound them together despite not being good for eachother as lovers. i thought it was a good twist on the whole main character x miancharacter trope but as soon as i think they where going somewhere intresting no they screw me over and crapily pair them in the last season. the only character i didnt think was ruined was ponyhead. the most annoying character in the series. the thing is that ponyhead is written so that the show is self awar about how annoying she is cutting her off at the right times. i still hate ponyhead but at least she is consistent. its truly sad cuase this story eventaully gripped me then screwed me over and i hate it. it was attempting to break new grounds or so i thought but it ends up feeling like a carbon copy of other shows
Ghostbusters 2016 didn't fail, though. It pulled in decent numbers. Also, the movie was very enjoyable and entertaining (at least I think it was). Yeah, there were people who hated it, but it was relatively few people with amplified voices. The "they're ruining my childhood" people should focus on the real issue- they need to make NEW IPs instead of trying to cash in on NostaligaBucks. If the film wasn't titled "Ghostbusters", the exact same people would have watched it and not had a problem with it.
8:55 Not really outdated because you were right about this opinion the Sonic movie was actually great so basically you're Correct I don't want to answer and all that stuff but still.
