I'm in the states and had an opportunity to fire a friends Skorpion (semi) that he purchased in 9x18 Makarov. At the time it was in pistol setup and I was quite surprised by how well it shot and was fairly accurate all things considered. He has since paid $200 for a tax stamp and added a folding stock for the cool factor as much as anything. His ran great as a pistol and I can only assume does as well in carbine form. So the company seems to have the bugs worked out based on my sample size of one. The Vz 61 is a really neat little gun and exists kind of in it's own little world.
Yup. Been comparing with Henry of 9 Hole Review's one which is much newer. They changed the shape of the boltface somewhat. So I think we'll try to replicate that, polish the chamber, and maybe even lighten the bolt a bit.
It's literally just sometimes not ejecting forcefully enough and "catching" the departing empty case as the bolt comes forward. Before, it was... well, I'll explain in the next vid on the topic. There was lots going on there...
@@BlokeontheRange There's always drilling a little weight out of the bolt carrier to tune a blowback too. I would not be surprised if these semi auto variants have more metal where the old rate reducer mechanism used to go.
I have a Skorpion (no stock though unfortunately). Fun little shooter. Got to shoot a full auto one a few years ago and seeing those 32ACP cases flying out the top is so cool. 😁😁😁
I bet the weird Vz-61 bolt-locking safety is a hold-over from open-bolt SMG design (even though is it a hammer-fired closed-bolt design, in both versions): intended to stop the bolt from bouncing back far enough to collect a round, but not catch on the sear if it's dropped and firing accidentally.
These are about perfectly balanced in Makarov, and I like the straight magazine better. (With the caveat that I have used a Mislpec version, in semi/full auto.) Great little guns, kinda big and clunky for a pistol, but well worth it for having a wire-stock. The wire-stock makes it surprisingly stable, and easy to cantrol (Especially with the reduced fire rate) Honestly, one of the best gun designs of the 20th century. For what it is: A PDA.
It's a short range weapon. The sight radius is too short to even attempt to hit a man sized target outside of about 150M. Zero it to 100. You are not going to get an optic on top with the stock attached. Wear a hat with the stock shouldered, unless you like hot brass on the top of your head, I recommend a beret.
I have 3 of these from CSA and one as a SBR. I also had the pleasure of shooting a full auto one one time and it was amazingly controllable but wow does that mag ever go fast haha. I’ve had good luck with all of my semi autos so far but 2 of the 3 are 2015 production or newer and I have an older DTechnik one as well. I like the aesthetics of the original military produced ones better just due to the lightening cuts near the magwell are prettier as is the blue/gray paint. I was also surprised as just how well the gun suppresses for being a blowback. All around it’s a wonderful little gun but I tend to happen to like most Czech designed firearms. I totally agree with your sight picture thoughts I tend to do better with slow fire like a pistol but it’s pretty comfortable to shoot with the wire stock extended. It makes a world of difference in full auto haha. The only major drawback I’ve found with this firearm is at indoor ranges the spent brass sometimes ricochets off of the ceiling damaging foam or drywall and bouncing back at my head or down my collar haha. My solution, I only shoot it outdoors.
I would figure in a combat situation, most likely at short distance. You would just look through the sights and focus on the target like any other handgun. Even with that method I've seen some people shoot pretty accurate at a distance. So I would think it would be with that cz also with out trying to draw a bead down like a rifle. I've never had an opportunity to drive one so I could not say for sure. Even though it's a 9.3 on the scale of badass in FA it's still a hand gun and I would stick to the fundamentals you have practiced to develop as you would on any handgun and not freek out because it looks a little different.
G.W. Buffalo yeah I mean it’s definitely a cool gun for sure. I just mean that it is kind of like when you aim a pistol, the sights were designed to be perfect at arms length, now imagine putting your eye like just a few centimeters behind the rear sight. You can still kind of see the rear sight and you should be focusing on the front post and your target should be slightly blurry. However, the rear sight gets blurrier than on most guns to the point where it can effect accuracy a little bit. But yes in a combat situation it would likely be at a very close range and most likely in full auto since it is only 7,65 Browning so you’d likely have your front sight on the target and as long as it was pretty close within the rear sight it would work just fine. Plus you’d see your impacts and adjust kind of like machine gunners do. I don’t really have any other complaints. The Czechs always have excellent designs in my opinion and this thing also makes a great suppressor host.
I bet the stock compromise could be lessened by making the stock extend with buttons (imagine the bits the extend the length crutches) without creating new problems.
I used to run the Skorpion in Rainbow Six (1998). For some reason you could run it unsilenced and not trigger the tango's in adjacent rooms with noise. (oh god...where did the last 20 years go?)
Oh, I remember those days! Being shot through the head at 100+ yds by a T with a pistol while waiting for your rifle crosshairs to settle was always super annoying...

Not exactly on topic but does anyone know how the backstop works on this range? It just looks like a concrete wall which doesn’t really make sense for capturing projectiles.
The way your stock attaches to the receiver looks different to the CSA semi skorpions that are available today. Did you do something different? Is that a full auto lower receiver because you're not bound by US laws?
Is the safety function a hold-over from an open bolt version of this gun? Locking the bolt shut would be prevent slam fires from a dropped gun or bolt handle snagging on tank interior bits when exiting in a hurry.
@@BlokeontheRange Interesting to know, thanks. To my untrained eye it just didn't really look like a Swiss army type of cap. I'd more expect an alpenflage fieldcap or boonie ha ha!

Sorta. They're about the same. You get a much better sight picture as a pistol, although the notch is a bit tight for it (it's clearly meant to be predominantly used from the shoulder - it's a point I forgot to make).

Improve the chin weld by attaching beard velcro to the stock?
For accurate shooting, the stock rests on the face. This stock is not inserted into the shoulder.

It's amazing how these things evolve. I'd be interested in seeing you shoot a more modern version of the SKorpion.
They also made them in 8mm Knall (blank) in select fire but interestingly WITHOUT the rate reducer!
suppose controllabilty doesn't matter so much when you're not actually shooting at things
... and when the only recoil is from the breech block schlapping back and forth too.
Strange when they had to produce a lower receiver specifically for the blank firing gun... the bolt is identical to the 32 ACP semiauto pistol!
Legal reasons. They want to make it as hard as possible to convert to a real gun. Or to convert a semiauto real gun to full auto.
Sounds like you need more back pressure. Time to thread it for a whisper tube.
