Perfectly summarized in just two minutes. Thanks.
Great video! Thank you again Motoman
Walter O'Malley wanted a dome stadium in Brooklyn. When they went to the Chivas Rivine section of LA they literally kicked people out of their homes. It was an ugly mess
aldeb456 not really, they were paid
@@savagedick3848 but forced to take it. They were literally dragged out cause they didn’t want to leave. It wasn’t a voluntary transaction. It was yet again State authoritarianism. They weren’t even given property value
Don't forget why Walter O'Malley came to visit LA, bc Roz Weiner insisted LA have a baseball team. She also got the Giants to get moving West as well. O'Malley never wanted to leave Brooklyn.
A old time los angelino told me that people died over this land dispute. Ofcourse history will just sweep that tragedy under the rug
Not exactly. Walter O'Malley died years ago. Would you say he is burning in Hell right now?
@@davidlafleche1142 Dodgers should have stayed in Brooklyn.
Doesn't matter. Stop trying to halt progress over a few replaceable houses. Like the ridiculous 710 freeway debate. This is why china is winning. They just get things done, no bickering.
Shocking. They really kept this story under wraps. When I was 7 I moved to LA in 1958 from NYC the same year the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn. I went to see the Dodgers as kid at the Colosseum and remember when the Chavez Ravine ballpark opened in '62 to great fanfare. Angelino's were fanatical baseball fans in those days and the Dodgers were a great team in this period.
Yeah, I lived in the LA area from 1958 to 1973. Went to a lot of Dodger games.
Never knew the story of the forced evictions.
MotoMan got it wrong. The Angels did not play in Dodger Stadium its first five years. The 1st year (1961) they played at Wrigley Field, the old home of the PCL Angels (42nd and Avalon). Then 4 years at Dodger Stadium (1962-65).
...meh. Close enough.
Note to self, Don't rent a car in Arizona.
Excellent video M
Guy who is in a state that "taxes the crap" out of anything and everything complains about taxes in a neighboring state.
the people of chaves ravine werent all mexican immigrants lots of them where mexican americans that lived in that areas for generations. that was their land.
They were paid...get over it
Savage Dick
How appropriate, Dick!
you mean Anaheim angels
los angeles angels from 1961-1966 before moving to anaheim in 1967
That's what they should be calling them NOW !! That "LA Angels of Anaheim" is a
load of crap !
Damn, that sucks!!!
Why?
He said Mexican American immigrants? They were the original californians the border crossed them !!
Dodger Stadium is the best ball park in MLB.
my dad says thank you!
FOR REAL
It was the best ball park, but yes...the climate of L.A. cannot be beat.
They were not Mexican immigrants when our people have been on that land
Eminent domain seldom has a good outcome for individuals!
Guess how many people were displaced with the freeways and shopping malls around LA. Even if the Dodgers didn’t come, Chavez Ravine was on it’s way out.
BOTTOM LINE ' STOLEN LAND...😮
Land of the hypocrites,Home of the liberals ....
Los not lasp
Trump most love this video
Why would he?
@@davidlafleche1142 cause he's so American
Rent free?
Um, wrong party.
Dems did all this, dumma-asel.
Terrible
Actually, Walter O'Malley wooed the city of Los Angeles into allowing him to move here, not the other way around like this dummy in the video declares. Brooklyn, New York was fast becoming an aging neighborhood of New York City, caused O'Malley to seek greener pastures(New York City politics contributed to the Dodgers & Giants moving to California as well).
True and Robert Moses (Huge Developer in N.Y) was forcing O'Malley to move his team to Queens. O'Malley explored his options and moved to L.A. - The Giants did the same thing as the Polo Grounds were falling apart. No National League team in N.Y. until the Mets, who took took their colors from the Dodgers (Blue) and Giants (Orange).
Omally wanted to stay in Brooklyn and build a new stadium on the corner of Flatbush and Atlantic. The city would not sell him the land.
Dude it would be nice if YOU looked up the real story before you you started spewing bs and made up crap for a story
Paul Flores, what actually happened? I am trying to figure out what exactly happened. Thank you
