"Water does not compress" devin speaks the truth. All you need is enough to fill a combustion chamber or 2... cause the rods do compress. Condolences for "rodney"
I had a fender mounted air filter on my last 1G DSM and living in Portland, I was always worried about this exact scenario. And I mean like a foot off the ground and right in front of the passenger tire. I ran an air filter bag though to help protect against this and luckily never had an issue. Always sucks though when you unexpectedly lose a motor - been through that too! Hopefully Jared's got the time/money to build back stronger and we'll be here to watch yet another awesome build!
If the motor is broke ,contact his insurance company and see if it’s covered under his policy, due to storm damage they may pay for repairs to his evo need to check out…👍👍👍😎😎😎
Insurance won't cover that. He modified the intake resulting in the motor sucking in water. Wouldn't have happened with the stock intake as it draws air from the upper grill not the bottom of the bumper.
If I were to drive by your shop with the cars outside, I would think you are a pro performance shop. Cars are so clean and you always have something interesting sitting outside.
I have this wrx swapped into a sti and it needs a lot of work and it’s my first car ever. But your videos are helping me realize that anything can be done❤️
I had the same experience with my 2008 Chevy Cobalt SS(turbo). I had a cold air intake, and tons of water got into it on a super rainy day. The same crap happened. From then on I vowed to NEVER, EVER have a car with what some people dub a "water sucker" on ANY of my cars. Either the stock airbox or a "short ram" intake is all I'd ever do. To me and my horrible experience having a cold air intake is like rolling the dice, especially in bad weather. I hope Jared comes out on top of this and his car runs again!
Old dude's truck doesn't look half bad either. You can tell he's a car guy. PS: Jared's car coming in clutch and helping out with content. Not worried, because he's a friend of Devin. Let the build begin!
If you can get them, you should order a couple of the jumper ends that fit the jump pack. Than you can just hardwire them into the cars that always sit and need a jump. So you can just plug the jump pack into the the plug, start the car and unplug the jump pack. No need to put the big battery clips onto the battery, will make it super easy to use and no risk of someone connecting it wrong.
Jared for your question as too, “how does that happen? “. When your car sucked in the water. Water doesn’t compress like air does. The engines going to do whatever it takes to try and run. So a cylinder probably was flooded with water and on the up stroke the engine bent a rod. So just an FYI if this ever happens again. You might be able to save it. Once it starts running roughy shut it off. You’d have to pull the spark plugs crank it over push all the water out. Change the old oil out, and put fresh plugs in.
For real. I know these guys are over in Eastern Wa. But they still get enough rain. Anyone who fender mounts their CAI in Wa State is dumb nuts. He just learned why 🤣

It could be a valve lubrication issue. My buddy cleaned out his intake valves on his Focus ST and used brake clean and he ended up drying out the valves and they started to “knock/clap”. Eventually the problem went away after he babied it.
