I hope the following makes sense:
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." I think the true meaning of this is that we must have the correct view of God and the right attitude towards God before anything else, or nothing else in our lives will make proper sense to us. We are all sinners before a holy God, and because God must punish every sin committed against him, we will all end up in Hell unless we forsake our sinful, self-serving lives, and cry out to God to have mercy on us because of the fact that Christ has died on the cross of Calvary to pay for all the sins of all those that would put their trust in him. Please do this now, because none of us know how much longer we have. Jonathan

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; But fools despise wisdom and instruction." Proverbs 1:7. I believe that the word LORD is similar to the modern word RESULT, which may be in the context of consequence. In other words the fear of consequences produced by one's actions may be the beginning of discerning what may be good or evil that produce results, which may or may not be in our best interest. In Canada we refer to a judge as "my lord" while in session. This refers to an individual that has the authority to order decisions that are consequential. Often times a person knows the difference between right and wrong yet chooses to ignore the better side of wisdom so it is ignorance that is foolish; a person that is ignorant is a fool. A fool that does not fear the consequences of their actions may end up in front of a judge who will discern the actions of the fool and instruct the fool in a manner that may be less foolish.

My mother was a complete alcoholic my whole life. Because she was agnostic, I never saw the inside of a church. She was so weak and frail and incapable of giving me much guidance or advice. She died when she was 45 years old. But when I was very, very young - maybe 5 years old - she told me, "Always see beauty around you in life and let beauty be your guide". I am so grateful to my mother for that advice. It caused me to recognize that God exists and it has pulled me through horrific challenges. Happiness has always been my "default setting". I KNOW that no matter what happens in my life or the world around us, there will always be beauty. Where beauty is, God is.

In order to develop the fear of the Lord, we must recognize God for who He is. We must glimpse with our spirits the power, might, beauty, and brilliance of the Lord God Almighty (Revelation 11:17; Hosea 12:5; Isaiah 6:1-5). Those who fear the Lord have a continual awareness of Him, a deep reverence for Him, and sincere commitment to obey Him.
Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” This verse gives us some added insight with its antithetical parallelism-there is a sharp contrast between the wise life and the foolish life. A wise person fears/reverences/obeys the Lord; a fool despises God’s instruction and cannot be told what to do. The wise person is wise because he has started at the starting place; the fool has no foundation on which to build wisdom.

Negative take away: He described life as catastrophic. Life is a beautiful roller coaster of ups and downs, but not a catastrophe for most.
Postive: Try to make one thing beautiful in life (plants, people, clean up room), because that will give you a relationship with beauty. That was really good advice.

Jonathan

I doubt Jordan will see this but when he was talking about mountains then plateauing before climbing the mountain again at ~8 mins I thought that a really interesting metaphor is in how the stock market moves, he even mentioned about going back down the mountain and still in some way being in a better position and that's exactly how it works, it retreats a bit to a stronger position before continuing upwards again to higher heights.

We must learn to DIM the mind and brighten our hearts. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is 10x more powerful than Intellectual Intelligence (IQ). What if we lived in a world were the ‘Smartest’ people in the world were actually the dumbest. We’ve been taught to use our brains more than our hearts and we wonder why there's suffering in the world. This world is reversed. Do the opposite of what ‘they’ tell you to do. The heart is the first organ to grow in the body. Follow your heart and use your intellect as a co-pilot to assist the heart.

4:52-6:58 Can see the series Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (JJBA) encapsulating this candidly. Dunno if intentional on Hirohiko Araki’s part, but considering the iconic references to music, literature and well culture through artsy depictions and banger songs, go figure. Drawing parallels on wresting with god (Jotaro vs. Dio), the son of god facing off the devil (Giorno vs. Diavolo), and well overall self sacrifice (Johnny and Jesus, albeit is seen throughout the series, particularly part 5).

Honestly can someone tell me when is fear actually good ? I’m open to perspective. Fear to me is followed by manipulation and control a negativity I rather avoid. I was told that when it comes to fear it’s in regards to reverence and/respect. I choose to respect someone for who they are without fearing them it’s never been my vibe to allow myself to feel that way. My beliefs are my beliefs but I am open to hear what others say. Positive vibes only.

    • @isaaccarroll3528

My understanding of this (and what I believe Jordan is saying) is that fear is inevitable. It's an intrinsic human emotion that originated as a survival mechanism.
This video speaks to me as seeing the utility of fear, and using it as a positive motivator rather than a negative one. Either way fear will influence your decision making, I'd argue it's impossible to avoid.
I see what you're saying that fear can come from a manipulative place when externally forced on someone - whereas this is personal.

The Fear of God Is the Beginning of Wisdom. You either fear God or or the world.
    But it's only the beginning.
Finally, "there is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." 1. John 4:18
