Blacks as a whole always have to fight harder for everything. As we know it's simply because of our skin color. Then being a black woman, we really have to fight harder. What "people" see as sassy, is really a fighting spirit. We aren't allowed to be delicate enough.

I never watched Friends either. The creators plagiarized the concept of Friends from our show Living Single and took off. My twin sister and myself looooved watching Sister Sister and seeing Twins of color instead of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen
FRIENDS was bigger internationally and was easier for people over 25 to watch. I'm not white and yet I watched FRIENDS. I'm not black and I watched The Cosby Show, Sister, Sister, Webster, Different strokes.

You’re such a beautiful soul! ❤️ PS - my mom and I love making the different hot chocolates you shared on your cooking show! So delicious! 😃☕️
I completely respect what you've been through and how hard you had to work. The only thing is I don't see why there is a issue with calling biracial women biracial. As a dark skin black woman I've also experienced many of the issues you are talking about but we have to acknowledge that there is a difference in treatment between biracial women and black women (especially those of a darker complexion). For a long time in Hollywood biracial and light skin women were the main representation for black women. Acknowledging the harsher reality that is placed on dark skin women doesn't take away from any biracial or light skin woman's experience.
Colorism is real. I know it. You know it. Tia knows it. etc... that's not what this video was about. This video talked about her experience as a black girl growing up in the movie industry. We know that different shades get treated from less bad to real bad... but the point is that we all get treated bad. Yes, she is biracial (black and white). The world, and especially, the movie industry never saw her as white. She is allowed to claim her "black" side just as much as any darker-skinned woman. Who are we to tell someone what is offensive or not? Black comes in all shades.
H J...she knows what she is. I know you think your comment is helpful, but it doesn't acknowledge reality or history at all. I can tell Tia (having a dark skin black mother) is very aware of the treatment of black woman vs biracial. She is not pretending to deny this. Tia and I are around the same age (though I don't know her personally) so I feel like I can speak to this. When we were growing up...there was no distinction for biracial (if you were mixed with black and white). Being mixed with black and white was the worse thing ever to society. Society hated black people that much. They hated them so much that they felt that if you were a white person that had a child with a black person that automatically tainted the white blood...so you couldn't claim half white. You would be just seen as black. You were not treated any differently. Biracial people didn't get special treatment (maybe in some circumstances) but for the most part they weren't treated differently or better. I knew plenty of biracial people growin up (family friends and in my own family) and they were just black. Referring to yourself as biracial wasn't even a thought. Everyone saw them the same and they saw themselves as the same...especially if the mother was black. Usually, biracial people are socialized black when they have black mothers. In some cases, the white fathers abandoned the kids anyway...so that's all people knew were their black side. Tia is from that era. It's more of a Gen Z thing now where people want to claim every little thing they are. That's a very new concept. I don't anticipate Tia changing how she sees herself. She knows who she is and how she identifies..she's been doing it for 43 years. I think she is fine.
Our parents were stationed together at Ft Hood. My dad (stamm) always spoke so highly of your parents and how they raised you all and it shows. Youre all beautiful inside and out. Gives me hope for my biracial daughter ❤️
I agree. It nobody's place to tell her that she isnt Black enough. Just disgusting! She was my idle back in the day, and being from Texas has a lot to do with it. 😆
said that way its wrong but really and truly she is not a black woman. she is just "graded" as one because of the hypodescent rule and criteria of physical similarity
@@Charnaniganss I woukd NEVER understand why some black americans don't realize to have black children it takes 2 black people!! In a nutshell, I agree with you.
Someone I knew said something like that to me before they said “you sound white” or “you act white” and I’m like how can you act a skin color that makes no sense so ofc inside it made me wanna do better but I really didn’t need to
The sad part about it it’s always usually other black people who say that. I’ve always gotten the, “you act white”, or “you do white people stuff” from black people. It’s sad being different and not like the “typical” black person they expect you to be is considered acting white. Ignorant, and a shameful thing to say.

It's never too late to learn. My mum still doesn't know about the struggle of being a minority even though she stands up for illegal immigrants from Africa. I try to educate my family but when you're blinded by a certain idea it's hard being in somebody else's shoes. I'm hopeful that the next generation will be more tolerant and educated
Yeah and it's possible that their parents hid that as best as they could from them. They were still kids after all, I was really little when it happened and if it wasn't the fact it was talked about constantly in my environment, I wouldn't have known either til later. Moral of the story, try not to judge based on your perception.

My family loves Family Reunion! Its one of very few shows that pulls us all in. Its the black history lessons, the nostalgic moments with Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie, and cousins, the realistic relationship between a husband and wife trying to find balance between youth and responsibilities while raising kids, and it has kid friendly language. Its everything about the show! Thanks for another great show! 👏🏾🖤😁✊🏾

Sister Sister was my literal childhood. So pleased that it's on Netflix UK now. I'm watching it from the beginning and can't believe how much I remember everything about the episodes (including the words) even though I probably haven't watched it regularly for 20 years. Such a cliché but when you watch/do something again from childhood, you realise how much it shaped you as a person, especially in your formative years. When I'm watching it, I think "Wow that's why I like that/wear that/think that/say that". You are such an amazing, beautiful woman Tia! Thank you for the memories 😘🥰 xxx

Thank you and your sister and the whole crew again! BTW, does your husband have family in the East Chicago area; I believe we may be related somewhere. I remember my dad introducing me to some people I believe were our cousins...John Hardrict, John Hardrict Jr., Butch Hardrict, etc.
I'm currently on season five of "Sister, Sister" ( I've seen the show before but I've never seen all the episodes) but I always wondered why you and Tamera started wearing your hair straight. I never knew it was an insecurity and you did it to feel a certain way. I just love how inspiring you and your sister are and that you're aware of these things and want to share them with us, especially since a lot of people will speak negatively. I'm 13 now and " Sister, Sister" has I inspired me to let loose and not always be uptight sometimes. You can make mistakes and it's okay, also do Cree and Cairo watch " Sister, Sister"?💞💞💞
we come in so many shades! my daughter has two black parents and she is light skin, it is discouraging hearing my grandmother in law call her a "white baby" and very offensive. My side of the family is full of biracials and my in laws aren't, I don't understand how people can immediately label us by looking at our shade. its, very scary. and it still exist today. Back to the main topic at hand, I enjoyed this video! I am happy you spoke about this!
I grew up always surrounded by different ethnicities and in reality I’m grateful in many ways but I also then had no idea about racism and white privilege for most my life. It’s shocking to me how naive I was. I’m sorry this happens still to this day and all I can do is continue to educate myself. Thank you👏🏼
Hi Tia, thank you for your video. I'm a white woman who grew up in England. I grew up watching Sister Sister (10 years old) and it didn't strike me that I was watching a black family, in that I didn't see a difference in skin colour. When I watched the recording of George Floyd saying 'I can't breath' over and over, I was crying (and the tears are rolling now as I type this). Why isn't everyone colour blind? God Bless you, your family and friends xx
I understand your perspective. I don’t think people should be color blind though. I want people to acknowledge that I am black and different, but still respect me as a human being❤️
I grew up the same as you Andrea, it was perhaps a bit naive, but how lucky were we to have that blissful ignorance over what we know now. The things my partner tells me about growing up black in the same place I grew up, well among other things it makes me scared for if we ever have children, oh and the stories from some of my Asian girlfriends too, its absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting. I was taught as a kid that you treat others how you want to be treated yourself and with Tv like this honestly I just never thought much about their appearance other than they were beautiful, I wanted their clothes and why didn't my curly hair wasn't as nice as theirs haha. They were girls my age, and the show was smart and funny and relatable.

Sister Sister is now on Netflix.....The stereotyping of Black people is the reason why I don't watch Tiffany Haddish or shows that depict us in a less than light ....Vulgarity harms our culture
Girl she is just tooooooo much! Idk if she’s like that in real life or not but the vulgarity is too much (and not just because of my religious beliefs). Very uncomfortable 🤣
I love Tiffany Haddish💗 . Black girls come in different shades and in different personalities , calling her vulgar is extreme( Racism is harming our culture , The society we live in has taught us to see girls like Haddish as vulgar and that is sad . Sister, Sister was an awesome show growing up. My daughter's (8 &6) loves watching it on Netflix. I'm glad seeing them enjoying the show, especially at their ages.
As a human and African-American, I understand everything you're saying and have a lot of compassion for it. As someone who spent over 20 years in corporate America in the field of business, I also completely understand the people who handled things a certain way. In business, you "follow the money" and unfortunately, people work in a field of business that they automatically make personal. It's not personal, it's BUSINESS. It's extremely important for people who work in any field of business to understand the "machine" behind it. Entertainment is like any other field of business in that they're going to follow the law of supply and demand and they're going to cater to people who generate the greatest amount of revenue. That has nothing to do with trying to hurt someone's feelings or wanting them to feel "less than". I'm sure they didn't mean that at all. Money is the root of all evil and we as a community of humans created it that way.

Black women is the backbone of everything to me. We go thru so much and still stay strong.
@Luna del Rey the truth hurts?
@Luna del Rey A) I’m not the one who said it I’m just replying weirdo and B) I said what I said. Either you’re slow or you comprehend. You seem slow though
It’s true!!!! And if it isn’t then prove it! We don’t say this to bring hate or to be better than anyone it’s just how it is a black woman is POWERFUL AND IT SHOWS! Without explaining it
Woman are stronger then man you guy's are awesome ☺️

Seventeen Again is one of my favorite movies you and Tamera did together. The song Hot Thing playing during the credits was it for me. 😂 and I can't forget you having to lay that girl out after she wouldn't move out of the way. 😂😂
Yes, exactly...it's my favorite movie by/of them too!😍👍😊
The ending credits song “Forever More” omg 😭 I desperately want it released. I used to record it on my flip phones
one of my favorite movies Tia & Tamera did
Yessss
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Tia’s makeup and hair ❤️😭
Yes Tia; we need to stop buying into the stereotypes.
Never watched FRIENDS couldnt relate to it and I hate how I always see FRIENDS has so much merch out there...I watched Sister Sister because as a person of color, I related more to them!!! I need Sister Sister to get more praise 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌❤❤❤❤
friends tv show was so white, that wasn't realistic. people go get coffee and see all kinds of people, but that show's coffee place was super white.
Yesss ! Sister, sister and Girlfriends ! I want merch from both of those shows... portraying young, educated, beautiful African American women in the most positive light ! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Sex and the city who??? 🙅🏽♀️😂😂
Not a fan of friends either.
My daughter was watching family reunion and she said “I love this episode because it shows her real hair” ❤️

This made me cry. I hate that you, or anyone, would be treated differently or poorly simply because the color of your skin is different than whoever’s is in charge at the time. Thank you so much for sharing your story Tia! I’ve always enjoyed your work. You’re such a beautiful soul! ❤️
PS - my mom and I love making the different hot chocolates you shared on your cooking show!
Yes!! So happy that someone brought that up. The video & comments kinda made me cringe
@@hafsah5239 u not black then u don’t understand what we go through there is a saying The Lighter the brighter the better
@@hafsah5239 society doesn’t see you as black.
I've heard people say "your not black enough" and it breaks my heart😢💔
Bi racial playa
I agree. It nobody's place to tell her that she isnt Black enough. Just disgusting! She was my idle back in the day, and being from Texas has a lot to do with it. 😆
if u mixed u mixed like have 2 black parents u real black she is not black enough or white enough she mixed. PERIOD
said that way its wrong but really and truly she is not a black woman. she is just "graded" as one because of the hypodescent rule and criteria of physical similarity
@@Charnaniganss I woukd NEVER understand why some black americans don't realize to have black children it takes 2 black people!! In a nutshell, I agree with you.
Tia & Tamera can do no wrong in my eyes! Like, this is how REAL role models present themselves
Absolutely
Someone I knew said something like that to me before they said “you sound white” or “you act white” and I’m like how can you act a skin color that makes no sense so ofc inside it made me wanna do better but I really didn’t need to
People have said that to me my entire life. It's so frustrating but its ignorance.
The sad part about it it’s always usually other black people who say that. I’ve always gotten the, “you act white”, or “you do white people stuff” from black people. It’s sad being different and not like the “typical” black person they expect you to be is considered acting white. Ignorant, and a shameful thing to say.

"I never knew." People who say this, do they live under a rock? Rodney King beating happened in the early 1990s. Smh
@@nenebrat2389 Same here I too learned, about the Rodney King disturbing incident as I got older like a lot of tragedies such as this. That occurred when I was younger I didn’t know about till I got older.

I want people to acknowledge that I am black and different, but still respect me as a human being❤️
@@SheaBae31 That is a very interesting way of looking at it, thank you 🙂. I was meaning to not judge people based on the colour of their skin x
I'm white too and watched all the tv shows with black people and never though we were different just great shows and I'm 62years now ❤
I grew up the same as you Andrea, it was perhaps a bit naive, but how lucky were we to have that blissful ignorance over what we know now.

Thanks for sharing! I grew up in the 90s and yes seeing shows like urs and the Cosby show and the fresh Prince influenced my joy in representing my cultural heritage
