Reigen asking Mob if he knew the truth and Mob avoiding the subject and telling him he knows he is a genuinely good guy is one of my favorite moments from this series. Always makes me tear up!
30:37 nah, it's just a belated birthday wish, Mob and Reigen haven't talked to each other in weeks, so Mob's just saying now what he didn't get the chance to say on Reigen's actual birthday.
the difference between how mob viewed their first interaction and how reigen viewed it shows just how much Mob trusts reigen. its really nice to see. it also shows how much reigen needed Mob. its cool how we heard Mob's inner thoughts about this scene in an earlier episode and now we're hearing Reigen's. This is one of my favorite episodes..
It's interesting to note that when Mob calls Reigen a good guy around 29:46, he's actually using Reigen's own words: when we see their first meeting, Reigen says to Mob at 25:24 "Become a good person. That is all." When Mob calls Reigen a "good guy", we see that same scene again for a second, and Mob (in the Japanese version) uses the exact same expression, "ii yatsu".
Reigen is really a mirror of what most of us really are. Lost. Yet despite how jaded he really is, he still chose to help someone who needed guidance and who felt lost too. In turn he found in Mob what he needed too. Just a person to validate what he is when the rest of the world does not . A genuine good guy.
The relationship between Mob and Reigen is what makes this entire series IMO. It's difficult to name a duo of characters in any media that balance, inspire and develop each other so well. Can't wait to see you experience some of the upcoming moments :)
"Become a good person." "...is a genuinely good guy." Mob is essentially saying at the end of the day "I want to be like you" to be at a low point in life and be told that you're still someone worth looking up to my heart man
the first half of this episode is so hard to watch... but the other half is my favorite of the season, possibly the whole show. Reigen and Mob are really two halves of a well rounded approach to life in general, and each has their place. Reigen's skepticism is sometimes warranted, and saves him and the people he cares about from being hurt by nefarious people. but if you have too much of that, it can lead to huge trust issues, and cause rifts between people. some folks really are as nice as they seem, and don't deserve to be scrutinized. meanwhile, Mob's trusting nature can get him into trouble sometimes, and when his trust is abused, his powers make the consequences severe. but almost every strong bond that Mob has today, was formed by going out on a limb and trying to connect with someone, even when he couldn't be fully confident. and here too... even if Reigen was wrong to treat Mob the way he did, and even if Mob deserves to be able to make that criticism, and expect change... Reigen has more than proven himself to be worth the effort of trying to reconcile already. Mob chose to have faith in him back when he was little, and he's not wrong to have faith in him here and now... it's just not blind faith. Mob knows exactly what kind of person Reigen is, and he chooses him anyway. not because he's a fake psychic, but because he's a real friend. it makes their relationship more meaningful to resolve this... which is exactly what Reigen needs right now.
Wonderfully said! I like to think that Mob always knew Reigen didn't have psychic powers, and all the questioning in Episode 1 was essentially Mob teasing the man. It's also possible that he just figured it out by the end of Season 1, of course, but I prefer to believe he knew the whole time
@@thatxavianxfeline723 thank you! and I agree... considering how long Mob has known Reigen, he'd probably already tumbled to the fact that Reigen's claims of spiritual powers at least never resulted in him doing anything useful when a real ghost appeared. once or twice could be excused, but it's been too long. I could see young Mob possibly being really flattered when Reigen would ask him to handle exorcisms at first, stating that Mob needs the experience, or it's just too low level for Reigen to bother with it himself, but after enough instances of Reigen literally having to wait til Mob got there before the issue could be resolved... yeah. by the first episode of the show, Mob was probably either teasing him, or testing what Reigen would say if he asked a harder question or two about his "abilities" ultimately, it was well past time for them to clear this up. that way Reigen doesn't have to perform his work persona for Mob anymore.
This episode cements this anime to me as one of the masterpieces of the media That doesn't mean it gets weaker after this, for the opposite, now we're flying upwards at full power
This is a good example of why Mob Psycho 100 is 1 of my top 5 anime. It a good short series that can evoke all the major emotions. It's funny and fun, has great action, and has a lot of heart/emotion. Other than One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, there's not too many other shows period (anime or not) that has all of these elements. It was a total genuine surprise to me. Episodes like this are barely fictional and not action oriented and it still hits!
This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Perfectly shows that although Mob is known for great action and animation, its story is equally outstandings in all the best ways. And yes, it did happen in a day I believe or at least close to it (rather it hasn't been a year) Reigen best boy btw also, did you notice that Reigen was smoking when Mob first met him? It's implied that he stopepd smoking because Mob was around :)
There's no way it happened in one day. On his birthday, he went to the bar at night and threw up. The sun had already set. When he talked to Mob at the end, it was sunset. At least one day had to have past.
Only ONE can write a character arc like this, as well as a relationship arc between characters, in two episodes (or I think it was 7 chapters in the manga). This episode always breaks the wall of the dam for me.
Yeah it is genuinely insane how some anime fail to make a captivating character arc in hundreds of episodes while Mob Psycho can have such an amazing arc in two episodes
The friendship between Reigen and Mob is truly wonderful! ☺️❤Reigen is a very foolish man and lies without hesitation. He may not be a good person. But he is very smart and kind. Above all, he never wishes misfortune on others or tries to hurt others for his own gain. As a result, he always listens seriously to the troubles of those who depend on him and ultimately solves their problems. In this episode, ordinary people who believe they are right, speak justice, and wish misfortune on the villain Reigen for their own pleasure seem much more greedy, ugly, and frightening. I love him👍
The way I got emotional at the end of this episode when I first saw it... I still do, tbf. Also, I'm not sure anyone mentioned it yet, but the subs do a little disservice to the scene at the end. Mob says that Reigen is "ii iatsu", which is "a good guy", but the way he phrased it is exactly the same as Reigen during that flashback. He told him "be a good person" and used the exact words "ii iatsu" to say it, which is why it reminded him of their first meeting.
Like half the episodes of Mob Psycho feel like they could be called one of the best. It's so hard to pick a favorite anything with a show this consistently good.
Mob knowing that Reigen never had any psychic powers from the very beginning but going along with it warms my heart. Of course he knew, but followed him because Reigen is a wonderful person. He saw this con man for who he truly was this whole time
I think because its Ad-lib'd its what he truly believes. Reigen may think he wants fame and fortune but he said himself, if he wanted that there were better opportunities than what he's doing right now. He said what was right on his mind and I do believe its what he believes to an extent.
These 2 episodes didn't have any major fights with the brilliant animation, and yet still they are in the running for the best episodes in the whole series that resolved perfectly. Can't wait for you too continue the story
its possible that its just a few days after his birthday and mob was just intending it more like "oh by the way since i havent seen you since your birthday heres a late happy birthday"
People like to believe from this episode that Mob knew that Reigan didn't have powers all along. But I like to believe that Mob just really believes Reigan wouldn't use his powers on them, so he felt he needed to step up and make a decision for himself (which I think makes for more interesting, helping someone who refuses to help themself, because you're valuing what you want over what they want). Not sure if what's right has ever been verified, though.
I looove this episode so much The lack of scenes like these is what stops me from considering shows like Demon Slayer or JJK to be anything higher than 8/10
I wouldnt really even call Reigen a scammer. A liar sure. But whatever problem people come to him with he finds a way to solve it. If the problem isnt a ghost he helps them relieve stress, cleans their place, or whatever they need and his customers always leave happy and feeling the problem was resolved. If it ever IS a spirit he has an employee or another psychic like in the Dragger episode help with it. He runs a company and through his management it's solved every issue presented to him. Also we know he's a legitimately good guy who charges less than anyone else, has refused money when the issue was resolved but was personally unsatisfied with the work, and has gone into the red on jobs to make sure they're done. He really is a good guy.
Mob made the camera float and the groud shake just because he got a lil emotional there... Mob is intrigued to why Reigen stayed on shady business and after all the silence he realized Reigen stayed because of a student.
The most painful arc for me to watch😭 It's essential to Reigen's character development, but mannnnn, I hate that he got screwed over by that old guy. Reigen basically saved his life back then when he knee the guy😂 instead of being grateful, he's holding a stupid grudge I just feel really bad when someone got "punished" when they weren't in the wrong
I mean he literally is in the wrong though lmao. He is getting called out for being a fraud when he is one and in the end still gets the last laugh as the old guy is terrified of him and the public is convinced he has powers.
@@plugshirt1762i guess what i mean is in regards to the intention of the old psychic towards Reigen. He's doing this no matter if Reigen's a fraud or not.
I don't think there's any contradiction between what Reigen said to Mob and his desire to become a big shot. He tells Mob that psychic powers don't inherently make you weird or special on their own. They're just a trait like any other. But he never says there's anything wrong with wanting to be special or famous and working towards that. Though I wouldn't say that Reigen's desire to be important is entirely positive, I wouldn't call it an entirely negative trait either.
Think about this: Mob knew all along that Reigen wasn't really a psychic, but he still stuck by him, and humored him, and let him think he believed him. Because it wasn't Reigen's supposed psychic powers that made Mob feel seen, or that gave Mob the practice with his powers and the values regarding their use that he holds so closely. It was Reigen himself, no powers needed, that inspired Mob to cultivate other skills and aspects of himself to make himself a more complete person. I just love their relationship so much.
It's hard to watch at first because we've seen Reigen do good things, but he did get over confident. The moment the company started getting really busy and he started to feel like he was getting recognition for his efforts (but more specifically Mob's) was when he stopped realizing what he was doing and that was the same time Mob was starting to become his own person, a person raised on the teachings that Reigen wasn't following himself anymore. Reigen just needed to be reminded of that, be humbled, brought back down to Earth.

17:22 I recommend an old anime named "Ghost Hunt" you can decide english sub and english dub both versions are great. Its all about helping people by exorcising spirits or solving crime. Its similar to Mob Psycho but less action and more on drama. They explain all ways of using abilities and spirits effects
Unlike in Europe where service can be pretty shite if the person simply doesn't care about doing their job, saying no is harder in Japan. In Japan, when it comes to business, it is dishonourable to say no. Especially to a superior or elder.
Without Reigen, Mob will be the same as the psychics he encountered before. He would only complains that others are unfair to him, and only hopes that others will recognize him because of his strength. What Reigen teach that is "Being a good person". Even if they have psycho power, they can't forget the most important thing that they are HUMAN BEINGS.
Imagine being some shady guy and trying to say that you were framed by this renowned guy and whole studio. In front of setup audience. How need to have attention or fame is agaisnt what Reigen said? Reigen is good at bulshiting people. Which mean that he is literally good at being a celebrity. So he doing that. He do exactly what he said to Mob.
20:00 I understand your point, but I don't agree. Being good at scamming people doesn't make you immune to being tricked yourself. There is a fantasy book that drives this lesson home: "The wizard's first rule". Said rule has nothing to do with magic, it's simply the lesson that people are easy to trick when you offer them what they desire to hear, or are afraid to hear. Basically, when you tell people what they are already primed to believe. And the lesson concludes with (paraphrased): "even knowing the rule doesn't exempt you from it." 21:00 Another very human problem: people don't like to think they were dupped. Even if he helped them, he still told them lies about spirits and psychic powers. Except when Mob was involved, which he can't quite bring up publicly. 28:00 I like Reigen's relaxed attitude here. "What's happening? - Beats me. I'm a fraud, remember?", then exits stage right. 32:12 "Doesn't that melt you?" It does. That's a story that has heart. Not just crazy psychic battle scenes.
@@bhuvandeep1219 It's funny, where did you see the mad? I'm glad that Reigen got his 5 minutes of shame, although since this is a positive comedy first and foremost, everything ended well for him and he can continue to deceive people and use Mob
@@docoz3836 Bruh are you slow lmao Mob admits he knows Reigen isn't a psychic in this episode and pivots to compliment him instead of calling him out. Evidenced doubly so by the fact in the finale his inner voice talks about how he is not a real psychic before he admits it again. He is hardly even deceiving people considering he gets Mob to exorcise any real spirits and if there is no spirit he solves their problem anyway.

I don't think he is ready for the next episode.
FINALLY MY FAVORITE EPISODE!!
Great scene for the thumbnail
5:13 Gotta say Luke, that is the hardest I laughed ever in your reactions lol. Keep being great!
17:22 I recommend an old anime named "Ghost Hunt" you can decide english sub and english dub both versions are great. Its all about helping people by exorcising spirits or solving crime. Its similar to Mob Psycho but less action and more on drama. They explain all ways of using abilities and spirits effects
Best episode of the show imo ⭐⭐
This episode cuts so many onions
Unlike in Europe where service can be pretty shite if the person simply doesn't care about doing their job, saying no is harder in Japan. In Japan, when it comes to business, it is dishonourable to say no. Especially to a superior or elder.
Next episode gonna be lit
Without Reigen, Mob will be the same as the psychics he encountered before.
He would only complains that others are unfair to him, and only hopes that others will recognize him because of his strength.
What Reigen teach that is "Being a good person". Even if they have psycho power, they can't forget the most important thing that they are HUMAN BEINGS.
My best episode of mob psycho and the one that made me love the series
Personally, I prefer no music for the intros. Certainly not a big deal if you prefer it, though, just sharing my opinion!
This episode always gets me 😭🖤
my favorite scene of the series
damn every time I watch this I 😭
Seriously, I don't even make it to Mob calling him a good guy, I start tearing up at the build up
Absolute cinema 🖐️🤚
next episode will make u really happy!
I love this series
I'm number 2, I'm really close to my monitor while eating though.
Please watch KINGDOM anime after MOB.
Also please react to the KINGDOM endings.
5:13 how did he know? 😡😡
React to bhool bhulaiyaa 3 Indian movie title track
music in intro? cool
❤❤❤❤❤
25:30 Reigen said ESP were another Characteristic people are born with, working hard to be famous isnt
And the lesson concludes with (paraphrased): "even knowing the rule doesn't exempt you from it."
21:00 Another very human problem: people don't like to think they were dupped.
32:12 "Doesn't that melt you?"
It does. That's a story that has heart. Not just crazy psychic battle scenes.
Day 22 of commenting until Luke watch "anime studio explained in 17 minutes"

Fights in s2 is one of the best
Can someone tell YT to stop giving me these videos so late and out of order...
It's so good when scammers get what they deserve, it's a pity that our Mob is so kind and naive
who hurt you
@@boomstories ?
The only one to be pitied is you, getting mad over a fictional character.
