Ah yeah, for sure! My family has been here for generations in South Texas and it was the same way at out place. There was one exception....when the old boys would get going and start playing a German card game called Skat, they would all start speaking in German or Polish. I have no idea why....but they did. It was always fascinating to listen to them.
@@mattpierceblog there was an older German lady down the street and when she brought coffee cake it was all German talk. Occasionally my Dad would see an old farmer buddy in town if they talked to him in German he would respond as well.
Ok, ok..... That's a good one! I like it! But no, I'm not. That's funny. I have heard Jackie Gleason, John Candy, and several others but NEVER Oliver Hardy! Yeah, I'm a fan!
Absolutely! I could see that for sure. There are plenty of Low German dialects still scattered throughout Texas. I just looked up the details on it and the state stats office estimates that somewhere around 10-12K people still speak this language in Texas. Good stuff! Thanks for commenting and for watching!
I could certainly see that with the Aztec influence and the heritage down that way for sure! Thanks for watching and commenting. I really do appreciate you!
Thank you so much for the video. I learned a lot from you!
You are very welcome! I am glad that you learned a few things from it!
I grew up in a German household where my parents spoke English almost exclusively except when they didn't want us to know something.
