    Interesting facts about Zemen Monastery.
Zemenski Monastery "St. John the Theologian" is a Bulgarian Orthodox monastery located on the northern slopes of the Knyazhevska Mountain, on the left side of the Struma River, 1 km. from the town of Zemen, district Pernik in western Bulgaria.
The Zemen Monastery was built in the 11th century AD. It consists of a small cubic church, a bell tower and two other separate buildings for monks. At present, due to the unique architecture and the year of establishment of the church, it has been declared a cultural monument and is not inhabited by monks. As such, the monastery has been part of the National History Museum since 2004, together with the Boyana Church.
The holy cloister is honored with a cubic shape with dimensions: length 9.18 m, width 8.71 m, height of the dome 11.20 m.
An interesting fact about the Zemen Monastery "St. John the Theologian" is that it was destroyed for various reasons several times, but in each of them the church is preserved, along with its frescoes. Here we must note the fact that according to the archives the monastery was last renovated in the period 1830 and 1860.
