I think I overheard you say that you didn’t think becoming an RN was “necessary” if wanting to do this or maybe you said there was another way of going about it? I appreciate this video so much, this is a field where I feel like it’s hard to find clear genuine opinions on how to find a path to it. This is something I’m die hard for and want to open my own med spa one day so thank you for the openness about your path!!
Hi Janet! Thank you so much for this video!! I am currently in nursing school studying a BSc.in Nursing (Intellectual Disability/Intellectual Developmental Disability in the US). I'm in my 3rd year (one more year to go!😪) And I already know I do not want to work in this area of nursing. I originally wanted general nursing and then work in med-surg and eventually theatre nurse. Something about working in hospitals especially in the surgical/medical side of things really really interests me. Unfortunately, I did not get to go down that route. I am now looking into Aesthetic nursing (idk how I came across it or thought of it anymore) but I don't know much about it and I am nervous about taking this route because I'm an introvert but when I have patients and in a working environment for some reason I am more extroverted than introverted 😂 I am interested in this type of nursing and the more videos I'm watching I think I'm more interested in the skin care side of things and laser hair removal sounds pretty cool!
Hi!! Wow what a journey! Do you live in another state? I didn't know nurses had to choose a specialty in school! I just did general and you could technically get a job anywhere! I am the most extroverted introvert out there lol I am super shy, but at work and with my patients I am different. That is a good balance, you will be just fine :) always just find a connection with your patients and build trust! it goes such a long way. I can recommend a few good skincare books for you! go ahead and email me and ill link them :) Skincare took me a while to get the hang of, but now I love it!
@@NurseJanetG Hi Janet! Thank you for getting back to me! 😁 I live in Ireland. Here you can choose a specialty but you can also do general nursing as an undergrad. I applied for general but I also included specialities just to increase chances of getting into nursing school. But sadly, I didn't get the discipline of nursing that I really wanted 😔. However, I am excited about going into aesthetics as it's different and I really didn't know that there was such a thing as aesthetic nursing. It sounds pretty cool! Thanks for the tip of developing a relationship with patients as an introvert 😂And Yes I will send you an email for the skin care books. Looking forward to more videos on your channel! 😊👍🏾
I want to work in the field of injectables such as botox and lip filler . Do you recommend me to do a medical assistant program then get my certificate in filler and then look for a job at a spa? Or should I go for my associate's degree in nursing?
you named all of my interest, and what you dislike I also dislike. I’m 16 and was also considering becoming a surgeon, but now I think this is what I’m gonna follow through with by my senior year.
Yes girl! I know what you mean about seeing myself stressing about the floor on my day off 5 or 10 yrs down the line. Heck I used to stress abt work before I come in. Even the night before. It's tough. And we have to do this for 40 yrs.. it may be for someone else. But not for me
This is my dream career, I graduate nursing school in August and I'm so stressed knowing how hard it is getting your foot in the door! Everyone I reach out to says no to me lol but hopefully the right place with come to me eventually. However, like you said, I will probably do bedside for a few years till then.
Hi Mandina. I graduated this May and I am starting my search for an injecting/aesthetic job. I would love to know what you have been doing career wise.
I’m an MRI Technologist who had loved aesthetics for years. I keep going back and forth on should I go back to school. Your video was so helpful. Im so worried about leaving my comfort salary as opposed to doing what I love. How did you find a place to train and hire you being new? That’s what I’m worried about.
I’m in the exact same boat as you!! Been a MRI tech for 15 years and I make good money and am very comfortable in my career now, but my heart is in aesthetics, that is my passion. Really struggling with whether or not I want to start over 😩
Unfortunately, in the US AND CALI nursing school would be necessary. These are medica treatments but the “prettier” side of medicine 😌 Nursing school gives you good knowledge for the basics of aesthetics and then you fine tune it once you graduate.
So odd this just popped up in my feed. I’m a licensed Cosmo and I love the beauty industry… I want to “up” the skill level and challenge myself . Pretty cool and informative🤔
I’m an esthetician and I am super interested in what you do but I really don’t like the idea of nursing school ): how would you recommend getting into this line of work without a nursing degree? Thank you for this video btw ❤️
You should try to get your laser license! I work at a medical spa/Concierge doctors office and LOVE it! But I’m going into nursing to do more and work for a plastic surgeon! I’m in Georgia so all the states have different laws

Love this question, is it okay if I use it in a FAQ video I am doing? to answer it, I think it is worth a shot to see if you like bedside JUST incase you don't like aesthetics. It is always nice to have a fall back. I don't think you NEED to do it, but it helped me tremendously!
Hello thank you for sharing ! I have a question I’m looking to start in this field and I am in California so I know I need to go to nursing school . I was thinking on going to beauty school and becoming a esthetician and then going into the nursing program . Do u think it’s a good idea or just a waste bc it won’t help ?
Hey guys I’m about to enroll into esthetician school , and once I get certified I’m hoping to attend a RN program ! I took a CNA class to see if I was okay with the nursing field I highly suggest ! I love working with residents ! I was so scared to do something like this but at one point we just have to let go of judgment and go for it !
Hey Im an Esthetician currently going to nursing school, I was wondering if an associate's degree rather than a bachelor's is fine? for this specific field
Ah!! When you said Palmdale it threw me off because that’s where I live 😂 haha I’m currently doing my prereqs with the goal to get into AVC’s nursing program! Thanks for such an informative video 💓
Hey I just discovered your channel! I'll definitely have to watch your videos. This field isn't taught in nursing school and it's hard to find books or classes about it. I just made the switch to this specialty after 3 years of bedside and I feel lost that I have to relearn everything all over again.
Hi Layla! I know it is tough! I have a video about the classes I took and there is an Amazon link with some really useful books! You should check them out, they would be a great resource for anyone in this field.
Thank you for this video! It had so much information I felt was not covered in other videos. I just graduated with my BSCN and am currently studying for my NCLEX. Do you think you need job experience on a floor before trying to get a job right away as an aesthetic nurse?
aww thank you so much!! and CONGRATS!!! I don't think you NEED to, but I think it was very helpful for me because I feel like if I began in aesthetics, I would have always wondered what floor nursing was like. PLUS floor nursing has helped me be very calm in a lot of complicated situations in life lol
Hi! I see you went to Mount Saint Mary’s University! I am currently a high school senior and I was recently accepted into the pre-nursing program there. I really want to be an Aesthetics nurse but confused on what some of the steps are to become one. So after finishing nursing school, in order to obtain your certificates to be able to administer Botox, were these classes fairly hard or easy to pass since they were only 1-2 days? I was also wondering how long it took you to become an Aesthetics nurse excluding the amount of time you were a floor nurse? I’m only a 17 year old and still trying to figure things out and your help would really mean a lot! xo
Hi Jackie! Omg yayyyy! Congrats!!! So after you are done, you have two choices: 1. Find a job that will train you to do Botox, Fillers, etc (some plastic surgeons will). 2. Take a certificate class FIRST (I know few people who have done this without a job) and then go find a job. This is probably not the ideal way. I would say find a place to work FIRST (like a surgeons office or laser place) and let them know you want to take the dive into aesthetics. The courses aren't like you take a test after. You learn about Botox and filler and then you do it yourself with your instructor watching. This is why I think it is SOOOO important to find a SMALL class setting. That way the instructor can watch you! I did a one day class on Botox and injectables and then just began injecting that very week! This was also 4 years ago and this field wasn't as big. Nowadays, you can shadow someone! We have shadowing and interning at The Things We Do :) when you're ready, you can reach out :)
Hi! I have a question. I'm interested in pursuing this career and I was wondering if getting an ADN to take the NCLEXRN to become a RN is good enough/a good route to become an Aesthetic Nurse. Or is it more favorable if you have a BSN? As you mentioned doing a whole 4-year nursing school to be an Aesthetic Nurse is a long and hard process so I'm just looking to do it in the least amount of time with enough credentials. Hoping for your response!
If you transition into this field just by working for a plastic surgeon ( without prior experience) and then get training through them, how does that work???? Are you just going to be able to work there? Will you make less money than if you were an rn?
Wondering the same thing!!! I've been searching for places - local and far - and it's SO hard to know where to go. The ones where you can get training in many different things in a week or 2? Or a more local place (but probably smaller class sizes and more expensive per course) but all you learn is one or 2 specialties?? I just feel totally lost and so afraid of paying all this money for a course or courses, just to regret it afterwards, feel like I made the wrong decision, and have no more money to sign up somewhere else! 😕
HI EVERYONE! MY VIRTUAL CLASSES ARE NOW LIVE! THE LINK IS IN MY IG BIO! I HOPE YOU ALL ARE READY TO EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY TOGETHER AND LEARN! I CANNOT WAIT TO VIRTUALLY MEET YOU GUYS!
I know what you mean abt toxic work environments.. especially on the floor. Everything is so stressful that they only think about their own pain. There's not a lot of empathy going around. I no longer work for places like that. My current workplace doesn't stress me out so much. Many other places should be like this
Hi thank you for this video! I’m a little confused on one part. I’m a new RN working in the hospital. I want to transition into aesthetic nursing. Would I have to get certificates before even applying to work at med spas? Bc you mentioned this is a backwards route but I don’t understand how I would work at a med spa with no training. Are med spas required to train you even without certificates?
Certificates are just to show you took classes. You don’t NEED them but sometimes it’s hood to shoe you are invested in your education. Some med spas will hire someone without experience and train them (regardless if you have a certificate).
So i have a question: the only way do this career is to be an RN ? But you don’t recommend becoming an RN just to do this? What would be these best path if you don’t have a medical background ?
don't go to nursing school if you want to get into aesthetics. go to nursing school because you have this innate need to care for others and want to care for humans. that is how you know you got into this field for the right reasons. Imagine you go into nursing school just to inject people and once you start injecting, you realize you don't like it. I’ve been looking for this type of info for a year. I’m struggling to commit to nursing school but it must be done! I have my esthetician license in NJ, we need a med license to perform advanced tx. I wanted to do chemistry too to formulate products and get to the business side of things. my budget is the one that’s gonna go thru it unfortunately
At the beginning you said you don't recommend going to school for four years to be a RN incase you don't like it just to become an aesthetic nurse and then you say get your RN license and then try to get into a surgeons office that might possibly train you as an aesthetic nurse... So confused. Is there away to become an aesthetic nurse/injector without a 4 year degree or not?
Great question! It really does depend where you work. I’ve found that your experience, location and that offices preference play a huge role. It’s just like bedside..some hospitals paid more than others and as you got more experience your pay goes up :)
@@nickynewman4010 I have done both depending on what they offer at the place I work. Once you get more experienced your salary has to be a good amount vs getting a bonus or else it won't make sense.
can you link the classes you took and write out a list of the 3 ways to enter this field. thanks I appreciated. Also question do you need to go to esthetic school.
video coming soon! But to answer your last question, you need to go to nursing school (or MD, or PA). to be an esthetician you need to go to cosmetology school (this is in cali of course :) and most of the USA)
I have applied to a bunch of places. They never even called or emailed. I got upset and frustrated and decided to take the class for botox and fillers. I dm'd a bunch of ppl and only ppl in California want to train me. I am from Florida and they have nothing to offer. No one in florida wants to train! So I'm catching a flight to Cali to be trained by the best. I'm a nurse practitioner. I plan on opening my own office to start off with botox and fillers I'm excited
I’m more interested in chemical peels and facials etc but I know I don’t want to go to esthetician school for it is there any nursing path that allows me to do these ?
Can you please explain how do we get that initial hands on work experience before applying for an aesthetic nurse job? Because most dermatology practices and medical spas require you to have a couple years of experience before they hire you. Getting that experience to land a job as a nurse injector seems difficult, I have been trying for a while. Please help!!
I’m sorry? Lol Could you be a little more clear with your question? I’m saying don’t go to nursing school to become an aesthetic nurse go to nursing school because you like helping people because what if you become an aesthetic nurse and don’t like that job
I really want to be an aesthetic nurse, I’m into skin care and doing Botox and fillers and love to make people feel good about themselves! Just as you said in your video. But the thought of going to nursing school for 4 years just to do that really sucks :(. I’m from New York & just read the rules and procedures and there really is no way to get around it. (I’ve been researching all morning lol) I have to be an RN to perform any Botox or anything like that. Thought there would be a faster and easier way but nope, gotta do nursing first. I thought going to esthetician school can get me there faster but learned estheticians can’t even perform Botox.
@@aribangz2124 lol I LOVE that you are researching! but yes you have to go to nursing school. At the end of the day, they are considered medical treatments so there is a lot of weight that comes with that (even if it is the softer side of medicine).
im still not getting it so if your already an RN you have to get certified to do injectables like lip fillers and botox and stuff like that? i need to know because im really interested in this field
Hiii! Sorry it took me a while! :) you don't need an actual certification (in Cali or the USA at least) but you get a certificate when you take classes. Its weird, but there is a difference between going through a certification process vs getting a certificate after you take a class. The only certification in our field is CANS :) i hope that makes a little more sense for you.

I appreciate this video so much, this is a field where I feel like it’s hard to find clear genuine opinions on how to find a path to it. This is something I’m die hard for and want to open my own med spa one day so thank you for the openness about your path!!
aww thank you so much Jade! Best of luck in your journey!!!!
Thank God for you & others finally sharing info.❤️‼️ 👏🏾THIS. 👏🏾WAS. 👏🏾AWESOME‼️
And of course thank you for sharing all these info...it helped a lot...🙏🙏🙏
When you become a trainer I would take your classes no doubt!
awww thank you so much!!! putting it out there girl!
I am now looking into Aesthetic nursing (idk how I came across it or thought of it anymore) but I don't know much about it and I am nervous about taking this route because I'm an introvert but when I have patients and in a working environment for some reason I am more extroverted than introverted 😂
I am interested in this type of nursing and the more videos I'm watching I think I'm more interested in the skin care side of things and laser hair removal sounds pretty cool!
I live in Ireland.
Thankyou so much for making this video !! Ur such a genuine person keep posting❤️✨
Me and you are so similar! Love this thank you so so much for all this information.
Awwwww! Then knowing that, you got this handled!!!
you named all of my interest, and what you dislike I also dislike. I’m 16 and was also considering becoming a surgeon, but now I think this is what I’m gonna follow through with by my senior year.
Thank you! and for reaching out to me on IG :) a surgeon is amazing! But this stuff is JUST as amazing! Keep me updated on your journey :)
You got this! just keep it up and eventually it will happen :)
Hi Mandina.
I graduated this May and I am starting my search for an injecting/aesthetic job. I would love to know what you have been doing career wise.
I love the way you explained everything ✨♥️ thank you!
Of course!!! 💕
Really struggling with whether or not I want to start over 😩
Do you need some experience working at Hospital/clinic before working at a med spa?
Excellent video! Thank you so much!🙏❤🙏
What’s the difference between certificate and certification?
So what would you suggest instead of going to nursing school for that long for things we won’t even be doing?
Unfortunately, in the US AND CALI nursing school would be necessary. These are medica treatments but the “prettier” side of medicine 😌
Nursing school gives you good knowledge for the basics of aesthetics and then you fine tune it once you graduate.
Can you go straight into nursing school after high school ?
Yes
@@Jade__40 wait rlly? What about college or uni like do u have to go there first or
@@niiswrld nursing school is college bachelors of science in nursing or associate science in nursing
Very informative… this is something I kind of looking into. Thank you!
What are your hours like now and are you receiving like a percentage of each patient for Botox and collage or are you salaried
I guess I’m trying to learn abt the part where nurses start to see their income while performing these procedures thanks!
i love how real you are throughout this and helpful thanks girl!!
aww thank you!! :)
Such an inspiring video! Thanks beautiful 😍
Hi. Can you be an aesthetic rn with the associate degree or needs to have BSN??
So odd this just popped up in my feed. I’m a licensed Cosmo and I love the beauty industry… I want to “up” the skill level and challenge myself . Pretty cool and informative🤔
I’m an esthetician and I am super interested in what you do but I really don’t like the idea of nursing school ): how would you recommend getting into this line of work without a nursing degree? Thank you for this video btw ❤️
i’m going through the same thing! I don’t like the idea of nursing school as well but i do want to become a medical esthetician😭
You should try to get your laser license! I work at a medical spa/Concierge doctors office and LOVE it! But I’m going into nursing to do more and work for a plastic surgeon! I’m in Georgia so all the states have different laws
Once I graduate nursing school do I need to go to esthetician school after or is there more options?
No you don’t need to go to cosmetology school because you don’t need to be an esthetician to do Botox..you just need to be an RN
Do I have to have a bachelors in nursing or is ADN fine? Thank you for this information also.
An ADN is fine :) I would always check with WHO is hiring as well because they could have a preference.
So if I Just wanted to do the Aesthetic Nursing we do need to become a NR correct, there isn't other ways or alternatives?
A NR? Can you explain what that is? If you mean RN, then yes :) you are correct.
You can also be a doctor or nurse practitioner 🙌🏻
Hello !!!! I’m a new here, and so far I’m loving your content. Have you ever thought about doing a live? I’m really interested about this field. Ty for sharing
Hiii! I’m having classes starting this week :) lip technique, Botox, an extension of my how to get into this field video :) head to my IG and the link it in the bio as well! I hope to meet you there!
Thank you for this video very helpful info.
Of course 😊
I’m graduating this April and would love your input! Would you recommend bedside/floor experience before pursuing a career in aesthetics? Thank you so much for these videos, there’s not enough like them!!💖
Love this question, is it okay if I use it in a FAQ video I am doing? to answer it, I think it is worth a shot to see if you like bedside JUST incase you don't like aesthetics. It is always nice to have a fall back. I don't think you NEED to do it, but it helped me tremendously!
Thank you so much!! Of course you can use🥰💖
Dropping Gems 💎✨✨ Thank you Nurse Janet
Hello thank you for sharing ! I have a question I’m looking to start in this field and I am in California so I know I need to go to nursing school . I was thinking on going to beauty school and becoming a esthetician and then going into the nursing program . Do u think it’s a good idea or just a waste bc it won’t help ?
I'm wondering this myself!
Do you know any classes in Miami?
Hey Im an Esthetician currently going to nursing school, I was wondering if an associate's degree rather than a bachelor's is fine? for this specific field
this is very helpful thank you! this is my dream job
It is a great job!!! :)
Ah!! When you said Palmdale it threw me off because that’s where I live 😂 haha I’m currently doing my prereqs with the goal to get into AVC’s nursing program! Thanks for such an informative video 💓
Girl! Palmdale is where it's at! lol I love Palmdale. GOOD JOB congrats!!! Keep me updated on your journey :)
I love the honesty💜
Thank you so much!!!
I’m only a 17 year old and still trying to figure things out and your help would really mean a lot! xo
Hi Jackie! Omg yayyyy! Congrats!!!
So after you are done, you have two choices:
Hi Christine, I am doing a FAQ video this weekend! I will be sure to answer this plus many more :)
If you transition into this field just by working for a plastic surgeon ( without prior experience) and then get training through them, how does that work???? Are you just going to be able to work there? Will you make less money than if you were an rn?
Thanks so much for sharing. This is a very informative video. Im a nurse in NYC. Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you :) Hope everything is well in NYC!
Hi janet and anyone else reading! where did you guys get your certificate? any reliable training courses?
Wondering the same thing!!! I've been searching for places - local and far - and it's SO hard to know where to go. The ones where you can get training in many different things in a week or 2? Or a more local place (but probably smaller class sizes and more expensive per course) but all you learn is one or 2 specialties?? I just feel totally lost and so afraid of paying all this money for a course or courses, just to regret it afterwards, feel like I made the wrong decision, and have no more money to sign up somewhere else! 😕
Hi guys!! have you guys had any luck finding a place? email me janet@thethingswedo.co :) I can try helping!
Where's this class in Torrance?
HI EVERYONE! MY VIRTUAL CLASSES ARE NOW LIVE! THE LINK IS IN MY IG BIO!
I HOPE YOU ALL ARE READY TO EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY TOGETHER AND LEARN! I CANNOT WAIT TO VIRTUALLY MEET YOU GUYS!
Do you have to have a 4year degree in nursing or can you have your associates?
as long as you are a registered nurse, you can do it. BSN vs ADN does not matter
I know what you mean abt toxic work environments.. especially on the floor. Everything is so stressful that they only think about their own pain. There's not a lot of empathy going around. I no longer work for places like that. My current workplace doesn't stress me out so much. Many other places should be like this
thank you so much for sharing on your experience with aesthetic nursing!!!
of course!
@@NurseJanetG oh ok thank you for clarifying that for me!!
You are so sweet love the honesty!
Oh thank you!
can you be an aesthetic nurse if you are a medical assistant?
Do I need an Associate in Art or Associate in Science degree to be a registered Nurse?
ADN. Associate degree in nursing
@@miissjeessicaa After Associates in nursing can you still get certified for botox?
So i have a question: the only way do this career is to be an RN ? But you don’t recommend becoming an RN just to do this? What would be these best path if you don’t have a medical background ?
don't go to nursing school if you want to get into aesthetics. go to nursing school because you have this innate need to care for others and want to care for humans. that is how you know you got into this field for the right reasons. Imagine you go into nursing school just to inject people and once you start injecting, you realize you don't like it. That is when I find a lot of people in my field feel lost :( but if you go into nursing because you want to care for others, your job opportunities are endless AND you will be happy in the long run
Thank you.
I’ve been looking for this type of info for a year. I’m struggling to commit to nursing school but it must be done! I have my esthetician license in NJ, we need a med license to perform advanced tx. I wanted to do chemistry too to formulate products and get to the business side of things. my budget is the one that’s gonna go thru it unfortunately
it is a sacrifice that will be well worth it! That is amazing! Invest in yourself :) you won't be sorry
Loved this video! Super informative thank you!! 🙏
thankkk you :)
When you did laser did you get a certification?
Hi! I’m cali you don’t need a certification/certificate for laser :) I juat got the training at work and through the company
@@NurseJanetG Heyyy love your channel! I would definitely like to collaborate with you o think it would be fun! Let me know if you are interested 🥰
Is there a base pay or how does that work?
Great question! It really does depend where you work. I’ve found that your experience, location and that offices preference play a huge role.
It’s just like bedside..some hospitals paid more than others and as you got more experience your pay goes up :)
Sorry I think what I meant to ask was how do you get paid? Do you have a salary? Or do you just get paid per patient/procedure that you have?
@@nickynewman4010 I have done both depending on what they offer at the place I work. Once you get more experienced your salary has to be a good amount vs getting a bonus or else it won't make sense.
Oh ok got it :) thank you for taking the time to answer my questions 😊
Hope to get trained by you in the future 😂!
Thanks for the info 💕
so kind! :) thank you
can you link the classes you took and write out a list of the 3 ways to enter this field. thanks I appreciated.
HOW FUN! you will love it! who are you training with in Cali? talk about taking initiative!
in your video did you mention you were a vocational nurse?
Not a vocational nurse, a CNA (nursing assistant :))
I’m more interested in chemical peels and facials etc but I know I don’t want to go to esthetician school for it is there any nursing path that allows me to do these ?
You can definitely go to nursing school to do chemical peels but facials, you’d have to be an esthetician or some kind of training for that.
Wait so do I go to nursing school to become an RN or not?
