As I grow older I've realized that everyone is right about everything, we just don't like agreeing. On race you go "do you think black people and white people have the same skin color" and they go "no" and you go "Well skin color is controlled by melanin content which is controlled by genes, just like how pygmies are shorter because of their genes, and the liver of pacific islanders being more prone to diabetes. If you agree that the liver, the skin, the muscles, and the skeleton can all be different, why not the brain?" Everyone agrees, there's no disagreeing with reality, its just that no one wants to acknowledge that they agree
Politicians has become complete fandom and indistinguishable with that of sports teams. People become a fan of a team because of where we’re born, currently live, a transcendent player or it’s inherited from a parent. Identity politics works in much the same way as people choose their political affiliation based on what’s perceived (this is not always in reality) in the best interest of their ethnicity/race, religion, area/region, or social class that they predominantly identify with. Fandom comes from the word fanatic which to put it mildly is an irrational response, and this explains why people still support the Cincinnati Bangles despite decades of extremely poor ownership, front office management, scouting/drafting, coaching, and play on the field. Similarly we see some extremely poor political ideologies continue to exist because they’re inherently linked/associated with some racial/religions/cultural/regional identity. Like I stated earlier that political affiliation like fandom is irrational and goes against their actual interest quite often and will use as an example native born Hispanics generally in the United States. Hispanics in the United States vote for the Democratic Party at a 2:1 ratio while actually being more in line politically with the Republican Party. Hispanics are more religious than the general population and the more religious someone is the greater percentage that they should identify with Republican Party because they cater to the religious right. Hispanics don’t support abortion as much as the general population which those on the religious right/pro life activists identify with the Republican Party. Almost half of Hispanics who are spanish dominate considered themselves conservative which conservatives are politically represented by the Republican Party nevertheless this group actually votes on a 10/75 spilt for the Democratic Party. Putting aside Cubans and Venezuelan we see other Hispanics increasing vote republican the higher their generation born here, the more English dominate they are, the higher education they have, the more political active they see themselves. The common sense to vote in your best interest breaks-down tradition the more educated they are, more English proficient (goes hand in hand with education), the more wealthy (a byproduct of the former two items), more ingrained socially (generational birth), the more religious (Republicans cater to the religious) the Hispanic is. Generally all Hispanics aspire to be deeply rooted, highly educated, fluent English speaking, and more wealthy besides being already being more conservative/religious than the general public so this shows that the real thing keeping Hispanics voting for the Democratic Party is more based on party loyalty/tradition than in their personal political interests which are generally more served by the Republican Party. This irrational voting pattern is just one of numerous example that show politics is fandom now instead of actual personal political beliefs/best self interests.
Social media plays a big role in this too. Then there's balkanization within different identity groups that split and form their own coalitions. (Ex. White indentitarians; pagan vs. Christian, capitialist vs. Socialist, pan european vs. Ethnic group
