I learnt swimming at 40 that too in a lake. I was shit scared of water due to an incident in childhood (my stupidity). Had jumped in a friend's pool with mouth wide open and a friend saved me from drowning. Since that day I was just scared of trying to swim. Somehow gathered courage at 40 and now love it. Still a beginner but can do freestyle easily and a bit of underwater. Simply love it and hope to master my swimming along with learning other strokes. It is never too late.

100% true. Even if you dont know how to swim, Is impossible to drown in calm waters if you stay like that with air in your lungs. Specially in the ocean as the salt helps you afloat, much easier than on a pool. Only thing to do is to control your mind and calm down. Loosing cool will get you dead. Even if you are pushed down, if you hold your breath and stand still, your body will slowly come up to the surface, you just need not to panic 👍

      Same.
      I just don't float.
Also my muscle mass has increased since the last time I tried, so I probably sink even more now.
I'm also thalassophobic, so I would scared as hell of the sea even if I could float.

There are some people high muscle mass and lean who will just lie on their back at the bottom of the pool when they try to starfish. I'm not sure in salt water with full lungs though, otherwise go to the dead sea, you can float on your back and read a book there!

Have you tried thrusting up your tummy and hips? Like doing glute bridge. The lower body will follow suit. If it still won't work, puff up your chest like how you would when someone told you to stand straight. Then breathe in and out normally, slow and steady. Spreading out your arms help too, rather than keeping it to your side.

    1. Let your arms out
    2. Lay down in the water
    3. Get rid of the stress and anxiety out of your body because that will weigh your body down
4.then relax and focus on calmness and things that make you happy
Bam you can float like your dead in the sea🤓🤩
