Restoring things and making things right is hard, complicated work. God doesn’t instantly fix things, but He gives us wisdom and the heart to show mercy and humility.
Great God Shot .. I’m thankful .. that as a man .. I should not take things into my own hands .. and fix them .. I only make even my own mistakes more of a mess .. I simply need to humble myself ( not so simple .. especially when I keep operating in the flesh so much , right ? ) .. simply need to take it to Jesus .. maybe weep some .. wait some more .. worship allot .. and He Who is Our Joy .. He will work in the circumstances that justice requires .. God’s justice will make all things beautiful .. even my own messes ! Even the King Saul messes that have landed in my lap ! Hallelujah .. what a burden .. what a yoke .. so easy & lite ! In Christ Jesus , our Lord .. Thank you TLC ! Thank you youTube ! Thank you YouVersion ! Thank you Triune God ! ❤️💚💙💫 , -ww
Beautiful recap today, TLC. I appreciate you bringing to light how God is just and how He works in our hearts and we'll as the hearts of others to make things right in His world. All glory to His name!
Wow i struglled with today's reading! It was intense and difficult for ne to follow. Thanks TLC for procing much needed claritt every day which i especially appreciate when a challenging read shows up! God bless you!
God may give us a mountain when we want a beach. It would have been easy and pleasant for David if everyone welcomed him back and he could glide into Jerusalem and back on his throne. But God may have placed us in positions to solve problems and set things right, as David did with Mephibosheth, Shimei, Barzillai, Amasa, and Sheba. God wants us to turn to Him and ask “Why are these bad things happening?” (2 Sam 21:1), and He may want us to take on a hard task and bury the source of the conflict, so to speak (2 Sam 21:14). As David says in Ps 18:33, “He makes my feet like hind’s feet (as surefooted as a deer), enabling me to stand on mountain heights.”
Thank you for this amazing plan Tara-Leigh and for guiding us through the Bible. I’m surprised you didn’t address the potential for confusion with the Mephibosheth duplicate names as you’d usually give us pointers but it caused me to at least go in search of the answer and not lazily depend on you 😂 Thank you and God bless you! This plan has helped me so much and your videos!
Good morning beautiful bible readers Loving the recap on this morning the reminder that God is a God of Justice when we have been wronged have a blessed day in His Presence ❤️❤️🤗
I too had previously thought Amasa deliberatedly tarried, but in reading several other commentaries, see that the delay could have indeed be due to the general rebellion of the tribes, reluctance to resume battle, or uncertainty about who is really in charge of the army and who to follow. As for the wisdom of David's choices following Absalom's death. he hasn't been hitting on all cylinders. They seem rash and expedient, and he's not taking time to seek God, nor fully thinking things out before deciding. ( I've been there, done that ) Joab, I think, can be trusted to do what is politically best for David, but is a vengeful man who is not fearful of David when it comes to personal vendettas. And too, he knows David has to deal with him cautiously as Joab knows where the bodies are buried, and the intrigues that lead to the executions. I can see Joab's personal worth to David's reign, and God may have used him to keep David's throne secure, and to speak necessary truth when others were afraid. But God knows the heart of all men, and being a God of justice, allows consequences to inact justice.
Sometimes we are overwhelmed with finding solutions that we take matters into our hands without asking God and then we realise that our self made solutions are not solutions without God's endorsement. However God is still merciful and faithful.
My God shot is in 2 Samuel 21. Verse 1 says David sought the face of the Lord because of the famine and God told him the reason for it. After the Gibeonites were avenged, God answered prayer for the land again.
I am so loving, studying the scriptures with Bible recap, and Tara. Not only these videos, but the study guide is helping me understand things so much. It brings out things that I would overlook or not even understand the first time around. Even though I have read through the entire Bible, several times, this study is really bringing things out to me and enabling me to Get the whole picture of what happened. Thank you I appreciate you guys.
God had forgiven David and shown him mercy - David then did that to others. “… and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.” Matthew 6:12 David and Joab’s relationship, I find to be an interesting one. Joab was David’s nephew but probably only a few years younger than David. Joab was fighting along side of David for a long time, before David was king. I wonder if he felt a little entitled… Joab had up close view of watching David’s relationship with God. He would / should have know how David strived to be humble before God. Joab didn’t take on that. He kind of did his own thing, didn’t try to follow God’s will … He was more worried about his own feelings and how he looked. His ego. Spoiler alert: This ends up being his downfall in the end. Just because I go to church doesn’t make me a good Christian. I need to develop my own relationship with God, listen to His voice, and follow His will.
2 Samuel 21 seems to expound on those additional battles between Israel and the Philistines that were briefly mentioned in 1 Chronicles 20. We get to see God's character exhibited in King David in 2 Samuel 19 when he forgives his enemies. One of those enemies is Shimei. He is the one who cursed David as he was fleeing Jerusalem. But now that the conflict with Absalom is over, David can return to Jerusalem, and Shimei is one of the people who greets him on his return. David extended Shimei mercy. In verse 23, David tells Shimei, "You shall not die." This is where my God shot comes. In David extending mercy to Shimei, it reminded me how God has done that same thing for me! He saved my soul.
but just remember that David, on his deathbed, has Solomon take care of business regarding his enemies, who he hastily or expediently forgave or tolerated. Solomon is charged with carrying out the long postponed sentences.
So much action today and so many duplicatwd names! This was a long read on my ESV study Bible reading also rbe notes. Wow i cant wait to see today's Recap with Tara-Leigh! I need her to help me understand all rhe action!
How is it that 7 descendants of Saul would be acceptable to be put to death and the famine is over? What a tangle of problems and battles. At one point, I was finding it confusing as to which army was from where and then a head is thrown over the wall. Joab stopped the attack to talk to a woman.
TBH, today was a crazy hard reading to "see" a God shot in, notwithstanding the woman from Abel being bold enough to advocate to save her city & its people. I am very thankful for the teachings thus far, particularly the descriptive vs prescriptive. That there is a place to simply read it, sit with it, and not feel compelled to 'do' something with every bit of text except look FOR God in it.
During reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.” They answered the king, “As for the man who destroyed us and plotted against us so that we have been decimated and have no place anywhere in Israel, let seven of his male descendants be given to us to be killed and their bodies exposed before the Lord at Gibeah of Saul-the Lord’s chosen one.” So the king said, “I will give them to you.” Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted. But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, “Never again will you go out with us to battle, so the lamp of Israel will not be extinguished.” These four were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men. 2 Samuel 21:1, 5-6, 15, 17, 22
David asked God why there was a famine, why did he not ask God how to end the famine? It’s like he rushed out before hearing God’s full answer. David did make a promise to Saul that he would not kill his family (1 Samuel 24:21-22) and now he went back on his work. Kind of what Saul did to the Gibeonites. God is gracious!!! Thank goodness.
@@umbrown David may not have gone back on his word, entirely. He spared one son, Mephibosheth, who also fathered a son, Micah. ”But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.“ 2 Samuel 21:7 ”And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica.“ 2 Samuel 9:12a Also: 1 Chronicles 8:34 1 Chronicles 9:40
You said that God did not approve but in 21:9, it says they executed the men before the Lord. Isn’t before the Lord a sign of God’s approval because Saul had broken the treaty with the Gibeonites that was made in Joshua’s time,
You do not have to seek vengeance, vengeance is the Lords. How great is God 🙌🏽
Despite our many attempts to gain control, God's plan prevails! I will praise the Lord!
A reminder that sin and disobedience have consequences for future generations. I'm thankful for God's grace and mercy.

God caused David to win over the hearts of the men of Judah and made them all of one mind (2 Sam 19:14). God is sovereign over hearts and minds.
Pursue Him instead of vengeance. God works in the heart of those who have wronged, on behalf of those who have been wronged.
I've been praying for family restoration for 3 years. But Hes in control

I was inspired by the wise women that to Joab. Their town which had a rich history of glorifying God. Joab listened to this lady.

David may have thought the deaths of 7 are outweighed by the lives of those saved by ending the famine. God apparently did not agree.
David asked God why there was a famine, why did he not ask God how to end the famine? It’s like he rushed out before hearing God’s full answer.
