    I am a senior in highschool and I am close to launching a rocket of similar design in the coming weeks. The complexity of this project is completely unmatched by any project I’ve done in the past. I used a Kalman filter to filter the accelerometer and gyroscope data instead of a complimentary and used a simple pid control loop. As I am stronger in coding than electronic circuits o decided to make a simulation in python of what to expect when it launches to tune the PID. I however did not make my own flight computer i instead stayed within the Arduino architecture. Anyway my question is how did you tune your control loop?

    i mean it's 2 years ago so i don't know if that matters anymore, but it seems like you were just trying to correct the "realtime data" directly, but computing is never realtime yet i believe because there's always a tiny space between the updates of values that won't show, therefore the errors will get bigger and bigger until it completely gets out of control.
    i think another decent try might be to compute some kind of prediction that helps adjusting and causing the errors not to expand further.
    but that's just a tip from an uneducated person that is just trying to experience the world for himself and learn for himself

    • @hasaniqbal233
      @hasaniqbal233 7 місяців тому

      Actually a very good guess! The errors can be handled via a PID controller. The 'I' (integral) part keeps track of the errors over time and adjusts the inputs to compensate, theoretically making the steady state (error after a long time) error to be 0.

    I'm a sophomore in highschool and a fan of bps space. Do you have any tips for getting started with tvc model rocketry?

    • @aaron-becker
      @aaron-becker  2 роки тому +3

      Most importantly, you need somewhere safe to launch - for a project as potentially dangerous as this, I drove out to a desert in Nevada to test it completely away from other people/property. Using the NAR guidelines for motor size vs launch area to find a safe space is a good starting point (www.nar.org/safety-information/model-rocket-safety-code/). Then, I’d say just experiment - maybe start with some ground tests using a simple TVC mount and an Arduino which just tried to keep the motor in place during the launch. Then, working your way up from there in both guidance computer and vehicle complexity you’ll eventually get to a full launch vehicle, much the same as Joe has done! Finally, finding a technical mentor to help you as well, like from a robotics team could be a huge help. Hope that helps!

      @@difficult.to.underestimate It’s definitely doable but it’s easier if you have some prior experience with model rocketry so that when you’re testing your system, your rocket doesn’t decrease in performance due to build issues. Additionally, you need to have a decent understanding of motors and how they work (I.e, burn time and and impulse). The building part isn’t terribly difficult (programming will take up most of your time) but having a mentor to help you out can go a long way.

      @Luca Mantova Sponsoring someone else would be really awesome :)
      The total cost is a bit hard to pin down, but I would estimate around $1250 to build three full rockets (and buy motors), two guidance computers and two ground computers for redundancy, not including launch costs or travel costs. Since I only had one chance to launch the vehicle I wanted to give it a maximal possible shot of some sort of launch.
      This also included the use of borrowed/shared resources, so if you’re starting from scratch it may be a bit more.
