I have heard from graduate MIT students that MIT keeps undergraduates at a certain level on purpose so as not to discourage the students who are not as gifted.
Don't let the fact that you got rejected prevent you from doing what you love! This portfolio shows that you are an incredibly gifted individual that is eager to learn new stuff. That alone will get you extremely far in life! Best of luck! 💪
That's insane. You literally have to be freaking tony stark genius prodigy just get into MIT. I just graduated with a masters in Electrical Engineering and Physics and some of these MIT maker portfolios would even have me struggling now and that's just in strictly in the electrical hardware portion. Dude keep it up your going to go far in this world, there's very few people with drive and passion to change the world and even fewer people with the knowledge to do it.
Not at all, there’s just too many people for 1 university so they filter people out even geniuses if they don’t stand out on certain criteria’s (which are not their field related and subjective) and rest is luck. The only requirement you need is to be academically well and have good problem solving and reasoning capabilities, which are earned through practice and experience. But not getting selected still is the above reasons I mentioned.
I think MIT rejected his project because in the beginning of the video he mentioned that he used to make Minecraft mods in 6th grade using Java script Probably it means that MIT doesn't accept someone who has played video games But I appreciate this guy's efforts and skills , though he got rejected but one day he will succeed in career
@@TwistyTurnyy1053 There are actually criteria to be accepted to MIT, and not because you code and tinker doesn't mean you qualify. You got to have superior mathematical knowledge, scientific understanding, and competitive exposure. You are competing among the smartest humans on earth: math olympiads, physics olympiads, Asians who are topnotching in math, programming, and science competitions and you think a dude who knows how to make a drone will get accepted lol
I can see why, though it's not because of their qualifications. It's that the video didn't go beyond a CV, whereas it should focus on the process/motivation: what was the original problem, why did you want to improve/solve it, how did you go from 0 to finished product, what did you learn/what would you improve in future iterations.
Well, there are many factors that go into their decision and honestly, after the whole admission process, I do not think the maker portfolio is a big driving factor. Also, nationality might also have an effect there. Nevertheless, it was worth trying!
This is super strong, and you would obviously do very well at MIT. The problem I see: this video is not digestible. It's hard for me to really understand _what_ you built and _why_ you built it. An AO might watch this video and be impressed, but not really know why they are impressed. Not sure if this makes sense, but I wanted to add my two cents in case it might help anyone.
extremely impressive, I've seen so many maker portfolios that were worse than yours yet they got in. A shame it is, you're a gem I believe you got a great future ahead of you.
I've seen some pretty underwhelming portfolios accepted; yours is much better in comparison. I can't understand what they're thinking when they review someone's portfolio. You've even interned and wrote whitepapers while the other portfolios didn't.
With that resume, you could work at any tech company for a mid 6 digit salary without even having to go to MIT. Trust me. I work in Tech Consulting. I do not have a college degree and worked my way up just like you did, although none of my projects were even remotely as impressive as yours. You'll do great in whatever you do because you have an insane problem solving ability. People are willing to pay a lot of money for that.

Pretty nice. Still good enough to get into most Tier 1 schools. Better not study in USA unless your parents are loaded. The student loans are just a scam.
You have more chance to enter MIT as a visually impaired kid who's above average in studies than as a very smart kid who designs protractors for the visually impaired.
rejection is redirection. Although this is a year late, i hope you realized that you dont need MIT to be great. you might already know this. anyways... stay up
as an mit student I can say you are a much better maker than the average mit student and the university took a big L by not taking u

Unfortunate that this was rejected but this was very impressive nonetheless. Hope you are doing well.
Thanks for the good wishes :)

Some guy designed a rocket nozzle and that got accepted.
I made a drone big enough to lift me up. Yet i have no chance to get in because my GPA is 3.1@@Vilakazi
This just showed up in my recommended, and I must say, this is good stuff! Keep up the great work, you're on the path to greatness.

I'm so glad I'm not one of the people denying/accepting these. There is some real talent not being accepted.
Your rejection has to be related to the fact you did not show anything hands on with you interacting with your designs
