  • A WW2 short film based on the opening scene of Omaha Beach in Saving Private Ryan. This took me annoyingly longer than it should have.. b/c of the consistent crashing and GMod not being so reliable to handle a ton of stuff. A better PC is what I need apparently.
Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects was also being shitty cause of memory issues but I did enjoy making this nonetheless. I incorporated my own artistic liberties and quick scenes not originally in the movie ( I did that to avoid boredom).
!!!!!Do I look forward to continuing the project and animating what happens over on the ACTUAL beach?!!!!
Yeah sure. I'm going to do more of these WW2 animation movies.
And about the “SFM” title, this was done in Garry’s Mod, disappointedly to some of you.
(joAcoNS did it better than me / @joacons )
    !!!ABOUT the MODELS!!!
Due to my lack of adequate knowledge about managing and modifying files, as well as importing stuff in and out of Garry’s mod or any games in general, what I did is I searched for Comradivan’s WW2 models online and downloaded them. They were already in Valve format which was good, but I still got a couple weird texture errors in random places which was annoying to deal with. And unfortunately I am not so much reliable about fixing those kinds of stuff. And reapplying materials with the sub material tool to replace those error textures… That was not fun to deal with it either.
Basically, I kept it casual with the models because Comradivan’s models which were of higher quality with more visual appeal tend to cause more lag and are just more difficult to manage in general. So I just grabbed a lot of the American WW2 models that you would simply find in the workshop and used that a lot more.
    !ABOUT the ADDONS!!!
I used a lot of props, models, and ADDONS for lighting, effects, and cinematic purposes in this video. As well as 2 very well designed maps from the workshop.
    Anyways enough of that
Thank you for clicking on the video :)

Bruh i didnt think the "putting SFM in the title" experiment/joke would get this far XD
But glad people are giving a bit more attention to Gmod

Yeah man. It seems that having "Garrys Mod" in there for an animation video just doesn't appeal to viewers at first sight. Even if the animations are of pristine quality. Maybe it's just the algorithm though. But i think that gmod animations at first were initially meant to be more of a casual thing, and that's why it can get so choppy at times.
About crashing 'n stuff, animating a bunch of ragdolls simultaneously while trying not to surpass SFM's capabilities or else I risk crashing and there goes all the progress, was the least fun part of it. For animating scenes like this where there is a ton of action going on in the background, while using a mediocre PC, I had to use a SLOW-MO addon to process and record the footage with OBS studio without the game crashing. But it's something to expect as it's a source engine game. You can't rely too much on that kind of system for processing this kind of stuff on a typical mid computer.
It was my first actual film animations so ye the 2nd half is better than the first.
But hey it's worth having joacons in your comment section on your video so that's pretty good.
Aight enough yappin and bless your eyes if you read all that..
But yea I really liked your video on Priv. Jackson's sniper scene. The lighting work is impressive as well as the close ups of the characters (pretty good models too). Can't wait for your new Eastern front movie animation

Real. These kinds of animations tend to be thrown under the gutter by the youtube algorithm whether the quality is good or not.

idk how to use sfm but I suppose it's more manual, hence a whole lot more time consuming
