  • In this week's video, we are starting to receive round and square grass hay bales that we will feed to our dry cows throughout the year.
**COWS & CO CREAMERY: If you're interested in placing a CHEESE order, they do ship nationwide. They currently are unable to ship gelato. The link is included below!

If you have any questions about this week's video, leave them in the comments, and I will post a Q&A video on Sunday if needed. As always, thanks for watching!

    Hi Piet,
Is that PENTA, a new silage wagon? Glad you're getting all the bales needed, sometimes got sacrifice quality for quantity.

No, we've had that trailer for 5 years or so. We usually use it to haul solid manure, but we've also used it for silage a few times when we've had wet field conditions.

Love your videos, you milk a lot of cows, 2 question, how many milking machines do you have operating at any one time? And why do you milk 3 times a day?

We have a double 24 parallel parlor, so we can milk 48 cows at a time. By milking our cows 3 times a day it allows them to produce about 10 to 15% more milk because their udders are less full.

Hi Piet. A silly qeustion maybe and sorry for my English in advance. Have you ever thought about growing something else then crop for your cows?
    For example:
if you buy 100 acres of chopped Maise for your cows = 100 dollar
if you grow 100 acres sugarbeets (example) you earn 300 dollar
So with the earned 300 dollar you buy 100 dollar worth chopped maise
You keep 200 dollar in your pocket.
Is it neccesary to grow crops for your cows? You can also grow other things which brings more money and you can buy grass or maise which is cheaper.

Corn is typically the most economic crop for us to grow taking into account our climate, soil type and expected yield. It also makes sense for us to grow corn silage as close to the farm as possible because it's expensive to truck forages, so we want to use our acres around the farm for forage as much as possible.

Stacking it so deep, don't it heat, or do you just make sure it's dry enough that it won't heat?

Hello! Does your feeding work well for your dry cows, do you cope with calcium deficiency at calving? Greetings Mikael, dairy farmer from Sweden. 🇸🇪

    • @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047
      @pietvanbedaf-nddairyfarmer9047  10 місяців тому

Yes, we've had good success with our rations pre and post calving. We don't have to treat many cows for calcium deficiency.

Do you ever make silage from grass and clover? In Sweden, we make silage from mostly grass and clover. Just saw that you use alfa alfa and corn.

We've had that trailer for 5 or 6 years, we usually use it to haul solid manure. We've used it for silage a few times when field conditions were wet.
