Exactly, I was expecting that he wipe out the hood from previous coating, used clay bar before and then polishing the surface. In other words - dilettante!
I just finished doing a complete paint correction followed by coating with the hydro slick. I found that if you wait the 2 minutes to give product time to become drier it became easier to remove like a wax. If it still had any wetness to it at all it would smear. I also tried using less product on another vehicle but doing multiple coats and it did not give any better results. I recommend using the 4x3 inch applicator with 6 3/8th inch dots of product and allowing 2-3 minutes to dry then buff off. One thing I did notice too is the microfiber will become damp if you buff off too soon and product is still too wet leading to the smearing as well.
I am by no means a paid advocate of Chemical Guys, but I have been using a variety of their products in my detailing service for about 7 yrs now. I am a fan of their soaps, the hex logic quantum pads, pad conditioner and wipe out spray. I dont like some of the polish they offer, some of the sealants, and some of the waxes. I have used this hydro slick stuff on 5 vehicles now with great results. I have varied the curing time based on ambient temperatures from 30 seconds to 1 minute tops. I learned putting on too much and waiting too long gets the result you experienced. I also saw the results on a client vehicle that got rained on the next day. Water beading was much better than your video and it dried itself with no water spots. I have a third of a bottle remaining after doing 5 vehicles, pretty decent bang for the buck.

Yeah he also laid the product down suuuper thick. Which is why it is so hard to remove. There is nothing you should put on your paint that you're supposed to lay down so thick. Wax, ceramic coatings, ceramic sprays, sealants, fusso coat (one that is super hard to remove if you lay it too thick), all of them need to be put down thin. So he looks amateur. Especially given the fact that this is one of those long term coatings, that will absolutely be hard to remove if too much is used. SMH.
I am wondering if there are problems wth the manufacturing of HydroSlick. I have a lot of experience with CG ( I used to be on their wholesaler program when they had it) and while it removed easier for me, the hydrophobic properties were the worst i have tested.
I don't know what all of these trolls in the comments are talking about. I did it the way you did...I know the directions say use a few drops and let it cure 2-12 hours so I globbed on 1/4 of the bottle and drove the car into a lake. The results were just as in the video.

I applied this on my build for the first ever doing ceramic coating and didn’t have a problem at all. Did the whole thing and works amazing and came off easy. So I think you need to do some research on it
So to me it looks like you used too much product, and you worked it in for too long. So even though you only waited 30-60 seconds, it had already been curing while you were working it in. And you really only need two or three small dots of product. Try treating it like a wax. Just quickly apply a small amount in a crosshatch, wait 30 seconds, and quickly buff off with a new microfiber towel.
Used this for the first time on my 4Runner. The vehicle was in the garage with a cool surface. I only put it on 2 spots on my applicator pad. It went on easy. Waited a couple of minutes and it came off very easily. I left the car in the garage for about 20 hours. The results were amazing. The paint was glossy and super slick. I will wait to see how long it lasts.
I've used it quite a few times already, I've never seen that happen I only use 2 dots at a time I've always clayed, corrected and polished before application
Same here. I used it with an applicator microfiber pad and it worked like a charm. Just a few dots and applied it like regular wax.. left my car like glass (claybar before application). I then applied wax and sealant for extra extra shine
I used hydrocharge which is the liquid version and i clayed and polished before i used it too. Perfect results. And he waited like 5 minutes in between which is too long
I think the Auto fanatic guy is the only one who really likes it so far. He polished and prepped the paint to make it coating ready, applied it and let it sit for 5 minutes before he buffed it off.
Hydro Slick the first coat was very hard to take off . Second coat was easy to take off second coat was applied about 16 hrs after first coat. I like HydroCharge better and prep is the key and Hydro Slick did give a nice shine on my 87 Corvette with original paint. I think products like this a great for older cars.
I've been doing auto detailing for 30 years and recently purchased this product and Detailed 6 cars and had absolutely no problems. Love the product so far we will see how long it last
I have also been detailing for 30 plus years and have used this exact product on over 30 cars, I have had the same problem on a similar colour, dark grey, almost black car, I realized i had not got all the road grime off when I washed the car. I washed again with a stronger soap mix 3 0z (Mr Pink) with a bit of degreaser cut 50/50 with water as a cutting agent sprayed just before the soap cannon, hard to see road grime on a black car, use a white microfiber cloth and watch for black on the cloth.

I’ve run my detailing business four years now. I trialed last season with our personal vehicles. I use this full time now (with other products) for the business. I love the results. Things I have noticed with Hydro Slick. Less is better, very difficult to see once applied, can be a bear to remove if not quick and over applied. Hydrophobic properties are very good. Using a bottle as shown I can easily coat 15 vehicles, probably more.
Hello Mr. Wilson, I applied this product 5 months ago on my 2013 honda accord ex-l and the hydrophobic properties are still strong. Love watching your videos. Keep up the good work..
I just bought this and used it on 3 vehicles. Works great with zero issues. Only a few guys I trust to give good detail reviews...and this guy isn't one of them.
Go to their website the have videos on how to apply every product they have. Just select on the product and scroll down. Also you used wayyy too much on both the hood and trunk as far as the wipe off goes. And also the cure time makes a huge difference. Regardless it’s an amazing product and they do an amazing job at chemical guys.
I used this product last year , but i had 3 bottles the chemical guy kit . includes first step , car wax soap , washed the truck , then wiped it dry with a micro fiber towel , then used the neutralizer to wash it again wiped it clean . prepping it for the wax , this part was all done in the sun , then by that time i moved the truck into the shade , let it cooled down then i used the hydro slick gel wax and wax the whole truck . took me like 15 minutes to apply all the wax from bumper to bumper , Then removed it and rubbing it with love . lol ... let it sat all night and next morning Miraculous shine . all i can say , it went threw many elements in the past year fall winter salt ice , work at a Concrete factory the dust of that is not forgiving , and still today i just wash it with the chemical guy wax and soap , still glitters and responded has it was just put on . know I'm in process of Testing it on my Cement truck .
I'm pretty novice when it comes to ceramic coating products, and I always seem to get very mediocre results from Chemical Guys... However I bought Hydroslick because it was on clearance, and I absolutely love it. I hand washed my car, orbital buffed with some basic turtle wax, then applied the Hydroslick by hand. I let each section sit for about 2 minutes before buffing and it came out beautiful. It's only been a few weeks but my car still looks freshly washed 🤷♀️
Ok. I know this was 2 years ago but you're supposed to leave it on for 30 seconds to five minutes depending on conditions for it to actually settle on to the car. Then it's way easier to wipe off and then let it cure for 12 hours to get the hydrophobic properties to work properly.
I just applied this to my brand new super duty. I’m it total agreement with you, this product SUCKS!!! I’m usually a pretty big fan of Chemical guys products, but this one is a total fail. I also thought I was doing something wrong. I probably have about 2 hours into trying to remove this product. completely DISAPPOINTED!!
I just used this stuff and I had zero issues. It came off easily and worked well. You also need to actually prep the car. Can’t do it on an unprepared car, it will not work the same
Used and tested it twice. But always after polish or compound, wash, clay bar, and using a good panel wipe(in this case, Gyeon prep), and using the proper dwell time for the temperature and letting it bond for about 12 to 24 hours. Have had ZERO issues. Product so far is ad advertised. Currently have about 2 months on it and it is just as hydrophobic and glossy as the day I applied it. The only issues I have ever seen from the ones I know who have tried it is not using the final panel wipe that is necessary before ANY sio2 coating and not clay barring/prepping correctly. Complaints of smearing, etc. Zero issues if applied as stated in my comment. Solid product. Looks like I'm on track to get at least 6 to 8 months on a daily driver that parks outside.
Bro I don’t have to watch 2 minutes of your video to know that you already used way too much and the wrong tool to apply the product on and moving wayyyyy to slow just stop
I wanted to like this product used it on my truck it was amazing for three days. I washed the truck and noticed it didn't beed up very well and i washed it again a couple of days later and almost 0 beeding. A customer who had to have this product on his truck is not happy with it either.
If you watch the chemical guys videos it's actually step 2 of a 3 step ceramic coating process, that's the only complaint I have about it is that they don't advertise it as a process, you can use it individually but your gonna need to apply it every 2 or so washes
I don’t know what you did or what’s different about yours but this shit come off so easy for me even after leaving it on my car‘s paint for two minutes.
It was pleasure meeting you in Arizona! Looks like I will stay away from this product which is no surprise because I haven’t had any luck with CG products.
It's actually the Hydro line of products that made me wake up to the Chemical Guys hype. None of their products live up to the description on their bottle. I wish I would have realized that sooner before wasting so much money.
Facts I was never hyped for this product now turtle wax on the other hand I am really excited to try out some of the ceramic products that they are releasing soon!! 😁

Hi Wilson, I have a ceramic coated car that I wash weekly. I use an iK foam 9 to foam up my car and let it dwell while I quickly do the wheels. I then use a worx hydroshot to rinse down the foam. I then hit it with a microfiber wash pad. My bucket is about 2 ounces of Adams car shampoo to 3 gallons of si water. The foamer is about 3 ounces of shampoo to 1 1/2 gallon of di water. I use only di water for rinsing. At the end of my wash I always end up with soap residue. Is it that the worx hydroshot is not powerful enough? I would appreciate any feedback.
When I first researched this, the most common issue I found was how hard it was to remove. I bought it and have used it and did not find any issue removing it. It flashed well, and was about the same as anything else I have used. I would say either, the prep of where you applied it was maybe not correctly done, maybe there were still some contaminates. And also, maybe you used too much product. Again, I did not have any issues when using it and it did give me a great finish at the end.
@@soapa4279 i use to have almost all of them. Bought like 12 50$ mystery Boxes 2 years ago. Big mistake!! Lol i only used the tire shine and gave the rest away
Same experience on a brand new black 4Runner; hand wash and dry, clay bar, polish with buffer, LIGHT coat of hydroslick. So hard to come off. 20 years of at-home detailing experience. May be differences with paint that cause the mixed reviews. Carnuba with buffer for the win. OR..........is it supposed to be a jelly? Should it be a liquid and we've gotten bad bottles of product? I'm not buying more to find out.
Would applying a liquid based ceramic coating in a spritz help with removing the Hydraslick? Provides the benefit of the gel based coating but some liquid base to help remove. I do the same thing when removing claybar residue, apply quick detailerntonhelp provide lubrication during removal and absorb into the microfiber cloth.
So glad I'm not the only one who doesnt understand the "hype" or reasoning around this product. Especially with all the really user friendly "ceramic" sprays on the market. Awesome Video👍
“It says to wait at least 3 hours ideally 12, oh I’ll just test it immediately after” wonders why it doesn’t work well. No idea why some people make videos when they have no clue what they are doing
Craiger King I just think it’s harmful to spread misinformation through poorly thought out content. Videos like this can mislead people with bad information.
Chemical guys say you can use this over wax. I live in Florida, and put it on my new truck. Gave it a thorough wash, never let it stay on more than 2 minutes, and it came off relatively easy. Water will not stay on my car, it totally repels water. Not sure how long it will last, but I will apply as needed.
Wilson this is just a suggestion how did the product come to you it could have been a badd batch with me living in Alaska sometimes having it on flown up on a plane it gets cold in the plane and it will start to separate certain waxes and sealants to wear when it comes you notice right away there's a problem we use it maybe you should order up another batch?
Well, I'm about to use this tomorrow even though it didn't work for you. I will be using 3 drops on the applicator after I clay bar the vehicle hopefully I get the results I'm looking for.
I followed directions to a "T" and the car looked great when I was done. Absolutely amazing, Unfortunately, 36 hours later it rained..... and the product just streaked off the car. I have sent pictures to Chemical Guys, have not heard back yet. waiting to see what they say. Its like it never bonded and just washed off from nothing but rain. Product had 36 hours before submitted to elements, put on and taken off in straight passes.. My son asked me.. "shouldn't the water be beading on my car?" i said of course, went out and looked after it stopped raining and there was white streaks all over his pretty black car where it just ran off from the rain. No beading hardly at all. Have no idea what went wrong. As I said, waiting to hear from them
I figured out what you’re missing, you missed reading the directions 😂 this stuff is so easy to use and has amazing results when you apply it correctly. Maybe consider another job or hobby before making product reviews
I just bought this stuff today and it wiped away super easy didn’t smudge or fog up made my panels super smooth compared to uncoated panels stuff is amazing i used a Claybar on my car though to pull all the contaminants trapped in the clearcoat out
@@TheRcdood. You can absolutely get good results, I just don't care for them honestly... I can knock them all I want but they produce better products then my chemical line 🤣
Bead maker is a hell of a product especially when you let it cure for the 6 hours they recommend. Probably the best sealant out there including carpro reload.
@@patb5266 if you really want to get technical. The durability I've experienced with Beadmaker has been three full months and that includes the prep from wash, decon, clay, polish and then stripping the surface of any oils left from polishing so the surface was extremely smooth. I did one coat of Beadmaker and another twelve hours later. I'm not the detailer that's gonna be spraying a side by side comparison panel with wheel cleaner or all purpose cleaner to see what product withstands. It's unrealistic. What is realistic is that it stands up against natural elements. Maybe Beadmaker does not work for others because they just spray it over top of unprepped paint so of course it won't hold up but to each is own buddy.
I think it has to do with what was done prior to the HydroSlick. I had a hell of a time getting mine completely off as it felt like I was exfoliating a layer of dead dry skin. I did all different combos of 30, 60, 120 secs and thin to almost none-existent coats. Still hardened. Granted this was in my garage in shade but in 60% humidity at 90° - so not sure if the temp was the culprit. My surface did have a ceramic coat done to it months prior, which may have contributed to a different “bond”. Doing on a non-ceramic coated surface and just wash, clay, simple polish it was much easier to remove.
I wonder if you could’ve gotten a bad batch? By the way guys he did ask you to roast him in the comments and tell him why it worked for you. It works great for me I just want to know how long it’s going to last. I would like to try the real ceramic coatings that come in the small bottles that are supposed to last for several years. I’m brand new to this so I thought I’d start out with the easy stuff
I think you might have used a bit too much product. If you take a few minutes, I really suggest watching Brian from Apex Detail’s video review/demonstration, he didn’t seem to have as much of a hard time removing it after 1 or 2 minutes, though he did have some trouble. You don’t even have to watch the whole video if you don’t have time, just the first 7 or 8 minutes. I appreciate the review, hope it goes better tomorrow! Here’s link to the video, for your convenience! :) ua-cam.com/video/tY0K6UAcEvs/v-deo.html
Funny enough I had a hard time removing it on the hood, it left stains sadly. I didn't wash or prep it well as I used dish soap to wash it and didn't even clay the car.
It does say to do a 2x2 area at a time. I trunk top or half a hood is not really 2x2 area. Now I haven't used this product but I think the application beginning was too large of an area at a time since it states to remove it within a certain amount of time
If you're in the UK, check out Bouncer's Done and Dusted Si Edition. It's an SiO2 spray that's super easy to use and gives out a fantastic gloss. Been using for 6 months and loving it!
I run into the same problem. Been using this product for sometime and these are the issues that I have. No sure if it’s working the way it shows on the videos. I’m not exposed to too much environmental stuff where I am, except sun and pollen, and it seems that it doesn’t last the suggested 12 months. I have used this four times in the almost year I’ve owned my vehicle and it still doesn’t last more than 2 weeks.

And he waited like 5 minutes in between which is too long
I use it as a topper for my Rennie Doyle P&S ceramic coating. It's almost as strong as the real 9h coating
Do u apply a wax after this or is this just enough??
I’ve used this on numerous customer’s vehicles and have had amazing results.
Well, I know who's channel I WON'T be subscribing
😂😂😂😂

@james Volpe. I just bought a bottle of this and just wanted to know if this product is a true ceramic. Thank you.
@@soulodoms8290 Im not sure but I applied it on meany cars and my own truck and seems to be holding up . Not sold on true ceramic coatings for the $1,300 I'm old fashion nothing like a fresh buff and Polish
ua-cam.com/video/LmivUZXOf3c/v-deo.html you can check the durability here, this guy has many more videos. Just proves that CG products are just average compared to others. Their durability is the worst most of the time.
How many cars did you get out of one bottle
Use a surface prep after polishing to remove all oils. Also, what are you using to wash your microfiber towels with?
Go to their website the have videos on how to apply every product they have. Just select on the product and scroll down. Also you used wayyy too much on both the hood and trunk as far as the wipe off goes. And also the cure time makes a huge difference. Regardless it’s an amazing product and they do an amazing job at chemical guys.
Maybe try it with a da or even rotary polisher, the polisher can warm up the oils and help it spread and bond better or so I've heard
3 dots that's all it takes remove it between 1 and 2 minutes
very small dots i remember years ago used to much turtle wax was so hard to remove perhaps used to much of the product
Ive used it multiple times no issue whatsoever
The crazy thing about it is the insane price of $40-50 bucks a bottle.
"I didn't follow the directions"
10 minutes later
"I'm re-reading the directions to make sure I didn't miss anything. idk what I did wrong"
This guy must be related to Jimbo. Neither know wtf they are doing
Brittany D couldn’t agree more
I've just watched the vid with jimbo and this product. Hmmmm same mistakes
I totally agree
did the product freeze?
You did it way wrong. I’ve used on many a car, with excellent results
Was there any difference after waiting 12 hours you did not include that part??
i just applied one and I have the wipe mark all over the hood now. Would this eventually be worn off after washing it?
I don’t know what you did or what’s different about yours but this shit come off so easy for me even after leaving it on my car‘s paint for two minutes.
It was pleasure meeting you in Arizona! Looks like I will stay away from this product which is no surprise because I haven’t had any luck with CG products.
What up FAB!😄
So great to meet you too!
PapaSmurf918 Not much brother!
FAB Automotive Detailing sounds like you’ve never used vrp I’m not a chemical guys fan either but that stuff is awesome
MILINICH'S AUTO DETAIL I have actually and it was decent on tires but horrible on the trim. It came right off the first time water hit it.
I think the issue was in not prepping/stripping/decontaminating the surface that makes a huge difference.
That's exactly the issue not even washed or layered
I didn't have it that difficult to remove but it WAS definitely more difficult than any other product I've used.
Does this remove light scratches on vehicle that already has a 6 year ceramic coating?
Your not the only UA-camr who had trouble removing this. Unless there is a ton of lubrication I feel you do damage trying to remove it.
It's actually the Hydro line of products that made me wake up to the Chemical Guys hype. None of their products live up to the description on their bottle. I wish I would have realized that sooner before wasting so much money.
I second that!!!
Yup..
Facts I was never hyped for this product now turtle wax on the other hand I am really excited to try out some of the ceramic products that they are releasing soon!! 😁

Chemical guys make an amazing car soap, the honeydew and citrus. They also have good mitts. That's about it.
In that case, what is the best ceramic coating you have used?
Spider Man I have kenzo ceramic coating professional installed, best thing you can do to ceramic your vehicle
It sounds like the Hydro shot isn't powerful enough
When I first researched this, the most common issue I found was how hard it was to remove. I bought it and have used it and did not find any issue removing it. It flashed well, and was about the same as anything else I have used. I would say either, the prep of where you applied it was maybe not correctly done, maybe there were still some contaminates. And also, maybe you used too much product. Again, I did not have any issues when using it and it did give me a great finish at the end.
hello, what product could I use as maintenance for hydroslick? staying always in the house chemical guys
Why anyone believes or still buys chemical guys procuts anymore is beyond me haha.
Griots,Sonax and carpro are my staples
They need to change their name to Marketing Inferior Products Guys
They have like 4 good products out of a thousand. lol
Think about using less product and then use even less than that.
This.
Yeah, Brian (Apex Detail) did a review on it and he even said that it takes more effort to remove.
“It says to wait at least 3 hours ideally 12, oh I’ll just test it immediately after” wonders why it doesn’t work well. No idea why some people make videos when they have no clue what they are doing
have you not watched any of his videos? he obviously just misunderstood this product, lighten up
Craiger King it’s just basic common sense

Chemical guys say you can use this over wax. I live in Florida, and put it on my new truck. Gave it a thorough wash, never let it stay on more than 2 minutes, and it came off relatively easy. Water will not stay on my car, it totally repels water. Not sure how long it will last, but I will apply as needed.
Worthless video done by someone who cannot read directions to give a decent review
Before I forget yeah don't use it again you're gonna get the same results the batches is badd to be fair to them ask for another bottle.
Please check the date on the bottle.
Well, I'm about to use this tomorrow even though it didn't work for you.
I will be using 3 drops on the applicator after I clay bar the vehicle hopefully I get the results I'm looking for.
Ive used it following the directions and I am very happy with it
I had the same difficulty removing this. I call it a heart attack in a bottle.
I'll take it
I followed directions to a "T" and the car looked great when I was done.
I just bought this stuff today and it wiped away super easy didn’t smudge or fog up made my panels super smooth compared to uncoated panels stuff is amazing i used a Claybar on my car though to pull all the contaminants trapped in the clearcoat out
I use hydro slick myself and I know what you're saying, is there another product of ceramic wax easier to use?
Can you put say Chemical Guys Jet Seal or a paste wax on paint work after putting a layer of Hydro Slick on?
I think I know what you did wrong. You went with a chemical guys product.... 🤣
Chemical guys is not necessarily a bad product, it's not the best but if someone can get good results with them then its all good
@@TheRcdood. You can absolutely get good results, I just don't care for them honestly... I can knock them all I want but they produce better products then my chemical line 🤣

You're not dogging the product, you're giving us your honest opinion. Thanks for saving me money.
I’ll stick to bead maker.
Breadmaker is as good as anything!
Bead maker is a hell of a product especially when you let it cure for the 6 hours they recommend. Probably the best sealant out there including carpro reload.
@@illusionzauto Beadmaker has poor durability and everyone knows that. Seal and Shine kills it. Better than Reload, yeah ok lol
Pat B I didn’t know that it’s the only protection on our everyday and it’s held up for 6 weeks and more..........
Chemical guys is a consumer diy guy brand. There stuff is 🚮.
After you polish you have to remove the polish residue. I use griots surface prep or I also used dipyourcar pre dip spray.

Funny enough I had a hard time removing it on the hood, it left stains sadly. I didn't wash or prep it well as I used dish soap to wash it and didn't even clay the car.
Has my jeep looking nice and feeling super slick...
Price is the only negative in my opinion.
Have you priced out "actual" ceramic coating? This is a bargain. Takes $3 worth of product to coat a car.
A lot of these ceramic wax type products smear like this, I’ve had the same experience with Adams ceramic liquid wax
