Thank you for this... just returns from a client video shoot where some lovely old man smashed my drone out of the sky with a large stick and the battery was ejected (amongst other things) which corrupted the file.
Now I have all the footage I need for the police.

I seem to be the odd duck on here. It didn't work. Shot several complex videos today and the one I really wanted was corrupt. Everything else was fine...I can see the thumbnail but it won't download from the drone or open in any and all video format files I have. It's only 1 gig (much shorter than the other files. Bummer...but thanks for the info.
I had the same problem a month ago. I knew it had to be playable. I tried it in VLC that's my first go to. Then I tried in Quick time and it wanted change the file and that was a no. no. So I though put the SD back into my mini 3 pro use the USB -C connector and down load it direct from the drone and it worked great. Not the same as what you did but close and more importantly both our ideas worked. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK YNWA.
I had transferred the file to my computer only to find it was corrupt. After watching this video I put it back on the card and tried this solution. It worked, thanks.
I've done this a few times. I find this happens most often when you power down but forget to stop recording first, which I seem to do almost every bloody time!

Or when your drone is going in to kamikaze mode and almost hitting me while i'm driving the boat, and crashed in to the sea and sank to the bottom 14 meters below. Than the file is also corrupted

Absolutely genius bro! I tried wondershare repairit, but of course they want money. Your fix worked wonderfully on the file that i took off my DJI mini 2, I shut off the drone before stopping recording. I had even deleted the file off the SD card already and had to copy it back to the card to try the fix, and it still worked, much gratitude for your real and helpful information among a sea of nonsense on the internet.
You saved the day man! Huge thank you. I had taken my Mavic to a spot in California where you're allowed to drive the car on the beach, and had the drone in Follow Me mode. That's the shot that was missing. And now it will live on. Can't thank you enough!

This worked on my DJI Mini 2. Tried multiple software repairs and online repairs that either didn't work, were expensive or even one that ballooned a 5 minute video out to over an hour. Put the SD card back in the drone, waited 5 minutes and sure enough that fixed it. I know this video is a few years old but just wanted to say thanks!! Wish I had seen it before I tried all the other methods but now I know. Subscribed! Cheers!

Had this very problem and I bought software that repaired the files. I had also returned to the same spot to film again the next day. If I had known this it would have saved me time, money and a lot of frustration. Thank you.
Yes there are many firms out there selling such software, you'll use it once and then throw it away too! Glad that this helps for the future!
@@Droning-ON I've tried most (if not all) of the free fixes. They typically don't work -- going to DOS and typing *CHKDSK G: /F* has a much greater success rate than those free "solutions". :-(

Hi Ash, It doesn't help me as we fly the Typhoon H. I I believe Yuneec have similar but you have to replace the card back in the camera. Power on. Start / stop the video recorder and it usually fixes it.

Ash looking on a few forums the micro sd card getting stuck in DJI drones seems to be a common problem (mines stuck in my Mavic Air 2). Tried precision pliers to no avail and tbh I don’t fancy forcing it too much. Any ideas??
That's a worry, you do realise that you must push the SD card in first before it can then be removed? Don't pull it with pliers as you'll destroy the card slot entirely.
DroningON hi Ash yeah when I push it on it just goes in further. I’ve read that it may be because I ordered the sandisk extreme pro micro sd which is apparently thicker. I’m gonna contact dji and see what they say

You absolute star. I'd even deleted the file off the sd card - and so copied back from my deleted folder - and this worked. You Sir, are a life saver!
I noticed that I had this issue twice, both for landing shots. So my guess is DJI drone takes some time to save the file into the card. If after landing we turn off the drone too soon, the file will be corrupted.

Ohhh shit!!! this tip worked!!! Thanks man!! I had like a 20 min video corrupted from a place I wont be visiting again in my life and was so worried. And also thanks for your advice of not recording such long videos, I wil pause it and record shorter ones to prevent this as well.

This works EVEN IF you've already downloaded the file to your computer. I had already done that and I figured it wouldn't hurt to try to recover the corrupt clip - but here's the important part - you need to return the folder (like media100 or where the corrupt file was on the card) to the card, and then put it back in the drone. I tried without the DJI folder first, and it didn't fix it. Then I moved the entire folder back, and this time it got fixed! Awesome! :)

It worked for me! Worse case scenario too.
I had moved the file off the SD card and renamed it so I had to move it back to the SD card first. It even worked with a different name!
I was very surprised that it worked after all that I did to the file.

I had a corrupt file on my Spark. Placed it back in my drone and recorded more footage. When I took the card out the corrupt file was now viewable. I thought it was just a coincidence. I got the MA2 yesterday and charged everything up. It's time to fly.

I've had 2 instances of corrupt files on my Mavic Air recently.. didn't find this tip until justr after the 2nd time.. however, just turning on the drone with the SD-card in it for 5 minutes did not fix my corrupt file.. does the controller and phone need to be on as well?

I came here because I thought my maiden flight's ootage was lost too, thanks so much for your assistance. I promise to:
1. Not to record one long constant file.
2. Break my footage into bits.
3. Remember to end the recording using the stop button.

Thanks a lot buddy, worked. I had played it and watched it. Then coped to pc and deleted for the SDIM then it went corrupt. I copied it back to the card as the only file and left it on for 15 mins and then connected up the phone and console. took 2 pictures but could already see the file was there and it plays. TY! File was too large at 1.6gb learnt from yours and others here and will do smaller clips per flight. DL to my phone now and then will try to move to PC again.
WOW! I can't believe that worked!! Thank you so much. I just had my first corrupted drone file after many hours of flying and recording. I was trying to download a great recording, about 15 minutes of some snowy forest landscapes and the file could not be played or was corrupted. Found your vid and got it all back - never would have guessed anything like that would work.
Like some of the others have commented, I did not stop recording before I powered down the drone. The first recording of the flight was fine, the last one was corrupted. Only after I tried your Magic Trick was I able to watch it and see the bonehead thing I did! My Mavic Mini was about out of battery and trying to return home. I was under a forest canopy and there was no clear place to land, so I just grabbed it from the bottom and flipped it over to get it to stop, then turned it off. My crime was captured on the footage. :-) Anyway, New Subscriber! You got me at "Simple Fix". Thanks again!

Great tip. Worked for me with files on one card, but not with files on another. (I fly a Mavic 2 Pro). To fix the second card I paid for a one month sub ($10 USD) for an online app. called RepairIt by Wondershare. I was able to test that the App actually could repair the files, by getting that App to repair a file and then viewing a lo-res preview to confirm - before purchasing. Highly recommend both methods.
Hi,, Thank you ,your tip worked ,, I've had corrupted files from the mini2 before and tried multiple video converter programs to repair them ,and none worked ,,so I just deleted and reformatted the sd card , I dont always push the stop recording button and just shut the mini 2 off ,, but I will now ,, because the last file today that was corrupt ,,,I remember being in a hurry to get going and just picked it up and pushed the button to shut it off packed it up and left ,,I didn't stop recording first, but the m2 fixed the file doing like you said so thanks

On watching mynfootage back when landing the drone the video seems to stutter or jump if i do what u did and put it back in the drone with it powerd on and leave it for 5 mins then power it down and put it back into my computer will it then be fixed ??

I just got the dji air 3 and I'm getting a "decoding failed" message on my laptop. I've never had any issues with any of my other drones. Batteries are charging but I'm going to try this. Hopefully it works

This works because it relinks to your video cache. I just recently had some footage lost due to a crash and it only saved whatever video was in the cache, around 2gb (or whatever yours is set to)
Thanks for the comment, but this isn't cache related, because cache is only stored in low resolution, therefore it wouldn't contribute towards restoring a full resolution video. All that it does is correctly fix the termination of a regular video, by fixing the file.

What is the recommended file size or length of the video? I tried what recommended, but it didn't fix mine. I even downloaded VLC, Format Factory, and 4DDiG File Repair, none of them work. I tried at home a 2 minutes and it works fine. Is there any other software or fixes recommended?

I have A DJI mavic 3 and it crashed and the battery fell out. Before the drone could save the video it ended up being corrupt. I put the SD card back into the drone and power it up for 10 minutes several times and it still does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks, John.

I had the same issue. Seems it's really a problem with DJI drone, not the SD card. It never happened on my Panasonic camera.

My unworkable file always seems to be the last one on the list of files recorded. Oddly enough I had the same problem with my dash cam. Maybe the trick is to make the last file of nothing special. Thanks anyway.
