I picked up some good ideas from this video. Thanks! Today those magnets are $4 each and 18 lbs pull each. That should hold a cleaver just fine.
Great build.
Cool method of construction for this project. Video editing could use some work though.
Are you putting something in front or on the back of the magnets? I see you have little disks you're putting in the hole, but in the video you don't explain it, and your blog post doesn't either.
what's a simple way to hang wood to drywall?
Using you round over router bit you are going the wrong direction - should be anti-clockwise. Good tips for the build tho.
Could an amateur like myself make a magnetic knife rack without a workshop router etc
Yes. Use a table saw or hand saw to cut down the holes for the magnets. There are rectangular magnets too.
Looks great. What size magnets did you use? were they strong or too strong? how much wood between the magnet and the surface?
Thanks! These are 1/2" x 1/2" N52 cylinders. I typically do 2 rows for a normal knife rack but offer the 3 row HD version for customers using them for cleavers or other heavy items. I eyeball the distance from the face that I route the holes but would say it's just shy of 1/16".
Thanks for the info! going to try this soon!
@@mattbork5258 So I googled that. The ones I found have 28 lbs of pull force in a single magnet? Doesn't that seem excessive?

Do you sell or make these knife holders to sell?!?!
I love the 6” to 8” depth of yours compared to the 3” of pretty much everyone else’s!
You used so many tools for a simple rack and then inserted 48 magnets in it just to hold knives. This seems way too excessive.
23 seconds in there is a horrendous noise. Taking those out or reducing it might have allowed me to keep watching.
what a lot of work for what looks like a cheap pine knife rack. If you're going to all this trouble why not use a beautiful wood like walnut?
for being such a critic, you should do a little research into wood species before commenting. Not all 'blond' wood is pine; this looks more like a nicely figured maple?
Geez, the looping music just kills it.....
ownTer lol I’ve been humming this tune for three days now
