    It’s amazing, we can land a man on the moon, but manufacturers can’t seem to design a decent hose for a dryer! Then, to add insult to injury, we’re expected to shell out anywhere from $30 to $60 for a kit that should be part of the design in the first place. This should be the easiest thing in the world.

    I am bad! I have not checked my vent in years! Many! Ashamed.
    Checked yesterday. OMG! All but totally plugged! Flexible Al tube. Definitely not flammable. But, what a mess!
    So, got rigid metal tubing from the hardware store today. Total pain because of the tight working space! But I got it done.

  • @winnchimes
    @winnchimes 8 років тому +36

    Wish they made a dryer where the vent comes out of the top, so I don't have to move the dryer out, remove or reattach vent then move it back into place hoping the vent tube will go where I want it to, and stay attached to dryer. ... wish it would just attach on top of the dryer.

    I've watched about 50 dryer vent videos and you'd think half the houses in America would be burning to the ground given all the warnings about don't do this don't use that. No vertical runs, no flex tubes, no plastic tubes, beware 90 degree angles, and on and on. I'm willing to bet that most houses break at least one of these rules.

      I have been using the very flexible metallic accordion duct in my past three houses past three houses, without incident. However, it bridged the area from dryer to the nearby opening in exterior wall, was within full view without combustible material nearby; I could easily remove it, examine its interior and clean it out or replace it. Now I am faced with a house that has a run of rigid metal exhaust duct within the wall and includes at least two elbows, probably more. I will use either rigid metal ducting or something like is shown in this video to connect the dryer to the hidden segment, because I won't be able to inspect and clean the whole duct run.

    Please note that the openings on the kit are different... in his left hand is a female end and in his right hand is a male end... At my house.... the two duct openings are male.. the one out of the dryer and also the one out of the wall.... So naturally I needed two female ends on my kit.... The funny part is that I opened the box at Home Depot to ensure the kit was complete...having read where others had parts missing. I didn't think to check the ends.. So I think that should be made clear to all thinking to buy this kit. I had to tear off the male end, and was able to hook it up after some minor modifications. (I built a giant, thick washer). I connected and clamped the female end to the dryer and connected the modified other end to the wall duct. It seems to be working ok so far! .

    @TheDryerVentDoctor : Could you tell me who the manufacturer of this type of vent is? Or what it’s called exactly?
    The wall exhaust pipe for the the dryer transition vent is to the right side of my dryer, instead of behind it or above it, although the dryer’s vent hole is on the back of the unit. I’m not sure what type of vent elbows or whatever I need. I want to be able to pull the dryer forward from time to time to clean behind it, grab fallen items, and clean the transition vent, so I need something flexible, but whirlpool wants the hook up to be rigid or semi rigid.
    This looks like a good option but I’m not sure where to find it.
    I live in Montreal Canada.

    i live in a modular home where the vent goes from the unit to the outside. We just bought an Lg washtower where the dryer is on top and how it's venting, it isn't allowing us to push the stackable washtower to the wall. It's sticking out blocking our back door. Do you have any videos showing a solution to this problem? Is there any way to cut out the drywall and have a periscope vent encased so it pushes all the way back, IF that would even work? We're desperate to find a solution. PLEASE HELP?

    • @catreader9733
      @catreader9733 2 роки тому

      There is a side venting kit for the LG Washtower, from LG, that allows you to reduce the clearance at the back. LG website, documentation, and videos provide enough information that I think someone with some basic handyman aptitude and skill can do the job. There is still a minimal back clearance that LG specifies. And now you would need some clearance beside the washtower. I had begun examining this solution for myself, but we decided to purchase another washer dryer set because LG service is not available where we are purchasing.

      There's a variety, depending on your specific need, including flattened "periscope" ducts e.g., w w w . northlineexpress.com/close-clearance-dryer-vent-periscope-pipes-29-50-1562.html
      Also, there are "cut-out" vent boxes w w w . lowes.com/pd/IMPERIAL-11-75-in-x-20-125-in-Aluminum-Dryer-Vent-Box/3203053 that might suit your need.
      I'm certainly not endorsing any particular product, but offering these as examples of the solution you're looking for. There are many brands/models with different approaches, including some neat quick-disconnect options.
      Good luck in your search.

That flex vent material is SO fragile it is not even funny CERTAINLY we can come up with something heavy duty that can also take temperature! There are all kinds of flexible lines that handle super hot liquids and gases and you mean NO ONE sells something NICE to vent hot air from a fricken clothes dryer?? And YES I am willing to PAY EXTRA just tell me who sells GOOD vent duct matierial for clothes dryers???

      OK I found something! It is not sold specifically for clothes dryer and is like 10X the price of any crap that home depot etc sells. It is made of SILICONE material around steel spring good for 550 degrees! Yes it can take the heat! SILICONE! OF COURSE!!! ... the catch is we are talking a 100 bucks for only 6' or $5o for 3' But I am thinking heck I could get away with 3' ..I think? could use rigid steel duct and the angle fittings using the 3' only for the final transition so I can connect it to the dryer and shove the dryer into it's space! $50 is pretty painless IF it will be super heavy duty and not split open the first time it gets dented by anything! But before I spring for it I want to find SOMEONE that has successfully installed it?? anyone??
      Here is the info I found at "Pegasus automotive racing website www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3631&gclid=CjwKEAiAm8nCBRD7xLj-2aWFyz8SJAAQNalaqSqIUJitWS1ZAi9oNdx8_Hga59QtXaYqQcLzWLm6ZxoCuiPw_wcB

      The best way is to make your own on Canada - buy a length of semi rigid hose and 2 elbows (26 gauge is best) and 2 clamps

    👉I am so tired of having the wrong type of vent on our dryer, so here I am. We have the type that you say is not safe.😕 I agree. Its terrible anyway since it falls off even with duct tape👎

    Where do you get this? Why won't TheDryerVentDoctor answer this question? Because you have to hire a contractor, preferably TDVD, to get this dryer vent. I have never voted down a UA-cam video, but I voted this one down because I am not a fan of this type of scare tactic.

    That second one @1;26 should NEVER be sold nor the white one that Matt talks about. These need to be removed from the market. The first one is the one you will want.

    👉 Who sells the correct metal vent tube? Not home depot. I need that. Is it long enough? Mine needs to go from the dryer and up 8 blocks or so to the outside 😉.

    Is this "kit' available with female (over the pipe) elbows on BOTH ends? I have a damper installed inside the wall vent so the elbow must go OVER, not inside the vent.

    This is so wrong! You *CAN* use an aluminum "flex-duct" for your dryer, especially the portable ones. As long as it's a UL listed duct specifically made for dryers *AND* it's from a reputable brand (Deflecto, Dundas Jafine, etc.), you should be okay. While they may not necessarily be *fireproof,* they are *NOT* "highly flammable" like this idiot claims. Notice how quickly he extinguishes the flame. This is a classic scare-tactic used by these so-called "professionals" to scare people into buying their products and/or services. All you have to do is use common sense, make sure your dryer duct isn't kinked or crushed, inspect them regularly, and you'll be fine.

    you are a "dr" those 90s are cheap, they have bends that have opens in them, air gasp that 180 bend, each 90 degree bends is roughly adding 5ft of extra pipe so your 180 bend is really added 10 ft of pipe to the run, also the flex material you are showing is for bathroom exhaust, I bet you it clearly says don't use for dryer vents, the true flex material used for dryer vents is UL rated, by code you can only use it for 5ft in a room, can't go through the floor and penetrating a wall or ceiling, that ridge aluminum you're using once it get bent or pancaked you have to replace it every single time because it's restricting the air flow in the pipe, you really should be putting to adjustable 90s instead of them cheap ass 90 you're showing just saying Dr, are you even certified?
