Totally agree. Such a shame. I love omega and own two Seamasters as well. The current black and a 36mm electric blue for when I fancy a smaller one. Omega still aren’t listening to us. Repeatedly people say we don’t like the mesh bracelet, we want it 40mm etc etc. yet they keep doing their own thing. I agree that the titanium bezel grey dial does not have enough contrast. I don’t think it has enough contrast on the dial either but looks better on the grey rubber.
Mesh bracelets are lovely, it's just the Omega clasp is too large and creates too much bulk. The problem is their Seamaster bracelets don't taper either and so I don't like either of them. Makes no sense why they can't use some of the Speedy bracelets for the Seamasters.
Clasp is too big, case is too thick. On mesh the clasp is still too thick. Pricing, I think Omega is shooting themselves in the foot. Their price increases doesn’t justify the watch.
The mesh bracelet goes well with some watches like Iwc portofino or Nomos, but doesnt match to the smaster diver 300 watch case to my eye. Will the no date version fit on the normal bracelet?
I agree. Somehow it makes the watch look and feel cheaper. If the lug to lug is the same thn I would think the bracelet should fit but I can't confirm.
Small wristed men (sub 6.5") need to order the watch with the S length mesh. M is the default and there is a L for larger wristed guys. If you wear the mesh and it's uncomfortable or the clasp is rubbing its a you problem because you haven't ordered the correct length mesh. 95% of the hate towards it is by these guys who are doing it wrong. The rubber is also available in S, M, L & XL lengths with M being the default. if your wrist is < 6.5" get S, from 6.5" to 7.5" get the default M, for 7.5" to 8.5" get L and over 8.5" get XL.
Yes this is a good point. However it still doesnt solve the issue of the big clasp. The gap from the end links to the watch case is also annoying but maybe that is subjective. The mesh bracelet even if you have the small length one still doesnt hugs your wrist as compared to a standard bracelet and that greatly affects the wearability of the watch.
It's hard to convince someone who doesn't like the feel of the mesh bracelet. I personally like it. The clasp did seem bulky at first but after owning it I got very used to the look and feel. Take the Rolex bracelets for example. Some people swear by the jubilee while others the oyster. It's not that one needs correction it's simply preference. I like the mesh because it adds more character in a world of cookie cutter dive watches that mostly all copy the sub. However, I know the feel of the bracelet is very subjective.
@@miabeatz80 I understand where you are coming from. However, the Oyster and the Jubilee both in itself is an amazing bracelet whether you compsre them to each other or not. I can't say the same about the mesh bracelet. It's nice that it is different but I don't think it is good enough.
@@WatchYourFront_ when you say both Rolex bracelets are great that's subjective 😂. I think the feel of both is great but looks and feel of the oyster is inferior IMO. I wouldn't tell Rolex to change it because their customers love them. I guess when we make our demands to Omega we have to consider the 90s bond bracelet was the icon and we keep asking for the speedy bracelet or something very similar to an oyster. I personally rate the mesh far ahead of the standard 300 bracelet in both feel and looks. Which one do you prefer?
@@miabeatz80 it's a good point to bring that the Rolex bracelets and the standard SMP bracelet all have history behind them. And perhaps we are somewhat nostalgic. History aside, I think if the mesh bracelet was actually decent, I wouldn't mind it at all. I just don't want a product that is sub par to be included in future models. For form and feel, I'd still pick the normal tank tracks bracelet over the mesh. But that bracelet is also due for a overhaul, taper & smaller clasp etc
Well said bro. Great vintage designs. Poor pricing strategy - unless this is Omega's way of paving the SMP towards a $9k price tag. Like you, Omega has a very special place in my heart. But their pricing strategy has been baffling.
The bezel is not titanium. It’s a titanium insert and is not going to sell well due to being not very nice looking. It looks way too much like the Olympic edition which never sold well. I have no idea why omega would double down on that design.
Domed sapphire crystal and grade 5 titanium Bezel hit the spot. The Nekton is bigger and costs $7,100 USD, which make these 2 new watches a STEAL at $6,500 USD.
Omega constantly let themselves down with these stupid new designs which turn more people off than draw in new customers. At least Rolex see what has worked and try to innovate and improve on that, Omega just make their watches look cheap and stupid. All they needed to do was slim the classic nine link bracelet down and reduce the size of pointlessly large clasp on the SMP. Hardly rocket science, yet they introduce this stupid cheap looking 90s style mesh straps which are almost identical to ones on cheap basic fashion watches like Calvin Klein back in the 1990s.
What if the current Omega customers like the design? Have you ever wondered what do Rolex do to bring in new customers? Rolex hasn't even created a new movement in decades. Brands don'tl design products to take customers from another brands. Bottom line there are things they can do to improve fundamentals like comfort and functionality but most changes some folks want are subjective.
@@miabeatz80But they don’t. Have you ever wondered why my screen name is Irish Scribbler? Because I’m a journalist and I speak to people every single day. And OMG I’ve just read your comment on “brands don’t design watches to take from other brands” 😂😂😂😂 That’s EXACTLY what they do, so they can become the market leaders!! As a journalist I’ve actually corresponded with Omega and they said that in order to maintain the appearance and the finish of the bracelets, comfort often has to take second place, which speaks volumes about their attitude towards what customers actually want.
@@miabeatz80And yes I’m perfectly aware of what Rolex does to bring in new customers; that’s what marketing is for.
