@@SmallWonda you’re welcome. In two days its 8 years since my dad died and 4 years last week my mum so i know the pain, especially at this time too it can be very hard. If it helps here is my experience- I will say that in time it get easier. You never stop missing or hurting but the pain lessens and you adapt to carry it better but its aways with you , just it will shrink but it can come back on occasion but i think it healthy to let it at times. My first year losing my dad who i was very close too was tough but i convinced myself my dad would not want me upset for too long. I was scar d of falling into a depression so after advice i was given by someonewho also had lost their dad- They said try to live a better, brighter life in memory of my dad so that year from spring onward i did so many things and tried new stuff, started learning guitar and languages and i go on walks in country and record bird species for the BTO and try to study basics of bird spotting etc. inside i felt sad a lot but not for long as i had a drive to fill my mind with stuff like dad was watching and id say i did more and learned more that year than the previous 10. This helped me a lot so i hope it can you too if your feeling it hard. I will say enjoy Christmas as best you can, im sure your dad would want it to be good as it can for you too.
No, me either.....it depends on one's relationship one had with one's parent in the land of the living. Mine was pretty awful so felt a sense of relief when the end came to be honest.
Hi there Neil. I really appreciate all you do! Writing from Nova Scotia, just across the pond. If you can, get your hands on a copy of Helen Creighton's " Bluenose Ghosts". In the 1950's she travelled the province interviewing old folks in coastal and other communities and recorded their experiences of the sort you are relating. I'm more of a rational being, you might say, but these stories provoke a strange chilling feeling and there's a ring of authenticity to them!
I can totally relate to the mermaid 🧜♀️ encounter. My great grandad Felix Falzon and his brother were fishermen. While fishing off the coast of Malta and Tripoli they were surrounded by three huge but beautiful half woman half fish . They were around 6-7 feet, with long red hair, violet eyes, and small but beautiful breasts. They were singing in a kind of almost church like way, Felix and his brother started to feel very frightened but also drawn as if hypnotised. Luckily, a thunderstorm started, and the ' mermaids' departed. Ill never forget my grandma telling me. Her dad was not the kind to make up stories.
I was looking in the comments for other people's tales of visiting Sandwood Bay. I am pleased there are none, and sad in a way that Neil is sharing the secret of this magical place. In the summer of 2020 we enjoyed two nights camping on the beach. I can report no paranormal activities, and in fact were blessed by the weather throughout. It is truly a place like no other, seemingly on the edge of the world, ultima thule
Viscosity is defined scientifically as a force multiplied by a time divided by an area and viscosity was the word that came into my consciousness as you took us into the very syrup here. The high and low, a thick malt and yet sat on a wilderness seat of unstruck sound, like a swirling ether, caught dancing with the howling wind that haunts, all about, the ruins and tempestuous tales under a winter’s 🌙 . As the nights draw in like an open fire roaring up toward a chimney breast. You can feel the alluring heat and chills behind you. Magical Neil
Hello, Neil! A welcome relief from our common fixation on the moment-by-moment political crises. I'm thinking of the old stories in Maine and Atlantic Canada which are similarly eerie...I've felt that sense of not being welcome, of entering a different Reality, when entering some Woods or some small Islands. Being watched by Something that wasn't human.
Deepest condolences about your Dad, Neil. I lost both my parents last year, and unparalleled sorrow followed. This was a fascinating episode that kept me on the edge of my seat! Thank you for the accompanying photos to give a leg-up to my imagination trying to eke out a visual of this remarkable place.
Bought the book, Neil, really enjoying it. Although to be honest, as you're a light in the dark, you could be selling dog turds and I'd still buy them to support you. The book is excellent!
I'm so glad you are doing this series Neil, because I loved your Hauntings book, but I love it even more when you tell these stories in an audio format.
Good morning, Neil. So excited for the book. You are such an amazing storyteller. I often say I could listen to you read the phone book and be entertained. I hope you plan to make an audio book of Hauntings.
Your way of telling stories is both fascinating and haunting. Watching this just before bed and now my mind is obsessed by the ghosts of that father and son; lashed together in life and death. Maybe not a good idea to listen before I sleep. But I find your way of narration and the stories you tell to be impossible to resist.
God bless you ,, the wheat from the chaff is upon us.. you will find friends and families departing out of your life ,, and new like-minded will take there place
Wonderful, timeless stories of turning perilous corners, being bound to one another in life & of loss, thankyou.. perhaps in the stillness of remote landscapes the deeper levels of existence that are always with us are more easily seen & felt.
I was born in 1954 on the west coast of England, close to the Scottish border, a place of shipbuilders and fishermen. I miss the sea, now living in Canada. Part of me wishes I'd never left but now everything's changed I can't go back. I recall singing a hymn in school that has a line "for those in peril on the sea"... I can recall also painting a scene (as a young girl), of 2 men in a rowing boat amongst the waves in a storm at sea.My mother never kept my paintings, wish I still had it, but I see it in my mind's eye. Tales of lost boats and haunted places abound in those regions. Souls bound to earth by inconsolable grief and loss. Thank you Neil for the stories, I've ordered your book which is scheduled for early December. Looking forward to it's arrival. ♥
I am the same age as you. Only in my later life have I lived by the sea in Nova Scotia, so much like Scotland even in the name .Many ghost stories here of fishermen and lost fishing boats One is still sighted on occasion in the bay!
@@peggylacroix8601 I hear that Nova Scotia and all the east coast actually, is very beautiful. One day I hope to get there. Worked with lots of people from that neck of the woods!
Mesmerizing story/history of place you tell. The real world out there drown out by too much noise in the places most of us live. Intriguing and cautionary. In America solo campers have to worry about Bigfoot and all the spirits that don’t want their property disturbed. Not to mention the wildlife. Thanks Neil
I’m looking forward to reading your book but I really enjoy listening to you tell these stories and seeing the photos. It brings the area to life in my mind.
