I know this is an old video but if you’re still looking for storage ideas for ephemera et. I have found stamp collector storage pages on Amazon. They fit in any loose leaf binder and come in variety packs of sizes. I can decorate the binders and enjoy them very much.
Oh nina, I could write a book about how to organize your stash....it is a constant struggle. Tried folders, books like you used today . It always works for a while and then they get to bulky, I put things in them that I cannot categorize and oeps the system is out of the window.... What works the best for me now are baskets and boxes, I can roam through them, put them upside down and although I sometimes have to search, beautiful things happen and it brings me things I would not have thought about. I accept that organizing is not my strong point. I always get inspired by almuts boxes with her pretty papers and things. It is a typical januarything I think, a clean start. So recognisable. As long as you create beautiful things, your stash is in good hands, however organized. Love and hugs lenaxxx
Thanks Lena, everything gets out of control so quickly and the cluttered mess then drives me nuts. I had my small ephemera in baskets and boxes last year, and that worked to start with, but then I had them piled everywhere by type and it became impossible to find what I was looking for. My problem is I can’t throw anything away haha! We’ll see how this method works for me. Have a wonderful weekend. Love and hugs 💕 xxx
Oh Nina! What fun it is going to be to watch you create with all of your fantastic supplies! I can hear your creative brain working all the way across the pond!!! 😂 Regarding your photo album, reuse it for other projects, the covers for other journals, the plastic sleeves for pockets, etc. There are no fixes that will hold up to your standards. It will be OK! It will become your 2023 journal! Can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for Sunday! Hope you are having a great create-full week! 😊👍✌️
Hi Melissa, thank you for making me see sense. You are quite correct as I would never be happy with it if I did repair it. Using the cover for a new journal sounds like a much more sensible idea ❤️
I never mind a little jiggery pokery! For me, no matter how I try to organize my scraps they always end up in a little box or basket. And this also seems the easiest place for me to poke around, reminding myself of what I have. Having said that, I do like to pretty up my box.
For the folder that needs to be rebound, can you bind the loose spiral section back to the spine using the travelers notebook method? Use grommets to make 2 holes in the spine, then run your elastic, string, ribbon, etc. through the spirals and tie securely.
Aw Nina thnx for mentioning me, I am so glad it has worked for you and maybe for many others. You worked wonders on your photo album and showed it who was boss lol. And thanks for the many other suggestions. Tfs xo
I've used a similar method..I had several binders left over at the end of the school year from my son who took them from other kids who were just throwing them out. He knew I'd find a use for them lol. Anyway I put in the clear pockets I got at the dollar tree and now I've got all of my bits and pieces in them. I store them in categories such as butterflies & birds, flowers, people, sceneries , abstracts, Angels & fairies and so on. Best thing I ever did! Makes it so much easier than rummaging through a bin all mixed up together.
Great ideas Nina, I use the plastic envelopes in small crates, one is all die cuts, one is sorted by color and one is still a mess. I had them in a 3 ring binder and it took up so much room on my desk when I opened it, that it didn't work for me. Now I just grab a sleeve and look through or remove what I want to use and put rest back in crate. I also still have a 4 drawer cabinet crammed full that needs sorting, one day hopefully. See you Sunday, have a great rest of the week.😃
The battle of the craft clutter is a problem for all of us isn’t as we are just not very good at throwing stuff away and usually have far more than we will ever need. I am hoping this will be easier for me and keep me more organised 🤞💕
Hello Nina, the black background of the pages makes the pieces pop out even more. The William Morris little album can be made in dark cardstock to obtain the same effect. Thanks for sharing.💐
Thanks Nina. You must have read my mind with my "beginners dilemma " which is too much stuff collected alarmingly rapidly and now what the heck do I do that makes logical sense?? When I reach my goal I'll let you know! Over thinking takes so much precious time away from actually getting projects started let alone completed. I take my hat off to all you inspirational Ephemera Artists. Don't stop, you keep me sane.
The hardest thing is definitely keeping things organised in a logical way and that is easy to see and get at. I am hoping this will be a game changer for me 🤞💕
Hi Nina it's always interesting to see how everyone manages their stash. I try various methods, none are perfect. I use my grandmother's big oak chest of drawers for storage of fabrics and papers. I have labels on the outside with a list of what's inside each drawer....to save me opening each one ha! You might want to put a sticky label on the outside of your albums with a note with a general idea of what's inside. To save you going through each one. Have fun...
I agree Ann, there is no perfect option. I might shuffle the contents of these around so I have one in colour order and one in subject order. I have already ditched the ribbon closure idea as it was too fiddly to open. I’ve added an elastic and another of the Tim Holtz do dads as it’s so much easier to open. Thankfully it screwed in straight over the eyelet. Have a wonderful week 💕x
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia it's never ending 🤦 I seem to spend as much time sorting as I do crafting ha! But it's quite nice when you've had a tidy.. a sense of achievement...and you find things you forgot you had . . so perhaps it's all part of the whole experience. I think the colour theme is a great idea though...good luck .xxx
This may have already been suggested, but I believe you may see better results with a 3in ring binder and clear page protectors. You could go the extra mile and add tabs at the edge of the protectors (like tabs you see on file folders or something similar) and lable them how you like (color coded, theme, etc.). That way the spine of the folder is wide enough to accommodate the girth of your findings and you can quickly get to the items your looking for with the tab system 😉 Just a thought
Thank you, I will see how I get on with the photo albums, but if the bulk drives me mad, I will invest in some deep ring binders. I do like the clear pockets and being able to see my supplies 💕
I love this idea. You can take a piece of black cardstock and poke all the little holes in it and wind it on the back of that insert then glue the card stock into your book. That might be a way to fix that book
Thank you so much Nina, I really really enjoyed watching you take us through your folders and how to store our scraps. I really really could do with a way to store mine that’s for sure. Always a pleasure watching you Nina. Thank you so much Nina. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
I use the letter size plastic folders with a snap closure to store large pieces of ephemera. For my small pieces I use clear vinyl pencil pouches that have zipper closures. I keep the folders and pouches in alphabetical order in drawers.
A great idea Nina. I was thinking that the last pouches you showed us could also have holes punched in the side and then added to a sturdy ring binder. Njoy your weekend.
I started at the end of last year to organize in labeled cigar boxes. They are fun to have stacked around, BUT I can't see what I have. (I ran across a stash of them for almost nothing.) I am struggling because they hide the mess, are colorful and the right size, but I can't see what I have. I guess no matter how I organize things is just isn't right--I need to be tidy when I work or create. I am glad to know this is an ongoing journey for others too. Thank you for your video and articulating your "struggle" to the rest of us. I love your work.
I have tried all kinds of ways over the years. I had my collage supplies stored in small plastic trays last year, but that didn’t work for me. I think this will be a better system, but If I find any affordable lever arch files this year, I will probably grab them as I think they will hold the bulk better. This will certainly do for the time being as I like that I can flip through the pages 💕
Excellent suggestions. The black, stiff background are good. I have all sorts of random boxes and drawers, can never find anything, and it does NOT give me joy! Time to get organised- I just wish my scraps were as pretty as yours.
This is the problem I had last year. To find anything, I had to take stuff out of the drawers and boxes which would end up in a mess all over my floor, and I hated it. This is working so much better. I don’t like working in a mess. Hope this works for you too 💕
I use two large plastic files which are intended to serve as portable file drawers. They have ledges along the sides that allow me to use hanging file folders - of which I have an abundance rescued from the trash at my old office. I sort my things by various categories such as flowers, landscapes, food, etc. When I decide I need a flower, I just pull out that folder and flip through the pieces. And it's easy to add new pieces to each folder without removing them from the box.
I do something very similar. I use page protectors and either put them in binders or use binder rings. I use this system with all my jewelry supplies. What is awesome with this system is that you can you trading card protectors and coon protectors as well
I do a similar thing to what you have done. However, to reduce the chunky mouth, of thinner folders, I use the wider Arch Lever folders and plastic sleeves! I also have a couple of hanging organisers, like hanging shoes holders, with different sized pockets, and they hang on the door of my craft room. Finally, plastic sleeves come in different thicknesses!
I think the wider arch lever folders are a great idea. I will see how I get on with my photo albums, but this is something I may consider in the future, especially if they are available in A5 format 💕
Hahaha,, I’ve been driven around the twist many times. Organizing bit and bobs and pictures out of magazines is overwhelmingly for me. I just cannot stop cutting or tearing things out of magazines. It’s almost like an addiction. These are good suggestions and I’m going to try. Btw, you are teaching me a new language. If I ever get to Britain I may just know what people are talking about. Living in Hawaii we have "pidgeon english".
Haha, we do have some fu my sayings here! I completely get where you are coming from when you say it’s almost like an addiction. I find it very difficult to throw anything away that has potential, and it can become very overwhelming. Have a wonderful week 💕
That looks like a wonderful idea but I would probably need 10 of them then they would gator bulge immensely. I decided to use plastic stackable bins with dividers (just like in the photo books) inside to separate the bits. This way I could see through them when they sit on a shelf. What a dilemma we mixed media artist face when we acquire, collect and recycle so much ephemera and painty papers.
I also chose a small photo album for my small ephemera and die cuts. I got it from the charity shop for 70 cents. But it is also an alligator mouth ! Thank you for fastening ideas.
I use trading card holders too (sheets with 9 pockets each) and also an old scrapbook album. As it gets fatter I can unscrew the binding and add more of the 12x12 pockets without it getting a 'gator mouth'😊. Coin holders are good too with even more pockets per page.
Very inspiring and has given me some great ideas. I plan to work on my storage this weekend and will be sharing what I am doing on the Facebook group as soon as I am done. My ephemera is *everywhere* and I need to get it at hand to use it. 🙂
I love watching ideas regarding better storage systems! These suggestions are brilliant. For repairing the other photo album, could you use your cropadile and put an eyelet at top and bottom and the secure rings with string, ribbon, or something like that? Good luck. TFS. 💌🙏💐
I have everything in plastic shoe boxes from The Dollar Tree. It's not optimal, but it's the best I have for now. I have a container for Words, Focal Points, and Scraps. I've been thinking about getting a desktop 4 drawer plastic organizer instead, but I think I'll wait and see what other people suggest.
It’s so difficult knowing how to store things effectively isn’t it. I have seen the clear drawer units, but I don’t think these would work for me as I’d need so many of them and don’t have the space. We’ll see how I get on wish this system 💕
I love that idea, I think it’s what I need. Would you please give me the sizes of that plastic album in cm, so I can look for one in the Netherlands. I can’t find that brand here. Thank you very much
Oh I think this might work but I do feel smaller pockets are necessary for some of mine... I might use those plastic pocket things to cut up smaller and stick it to a backing card, thats my plan anyway... Just gotta get on with it now, I know some people sew them but I think I will use double sided tape to stick them together. I would love to find a stamp album for my stamps preferable with stamps in them. 😁😁😁❤️
I’ll see how I get on with it, but might invest in some lever arch files eventually. Have a look on Facebook market place for a stamp album. I’ve often seen them on there for pennies 💕 x
I think any kind of photo album you use will result in alligator mouth!!! LOL!! I use an old photograph book that had supposedly magnetic pages (photos all fell out) and has like a binder mechanism. I reused the magnetic pages by sticking a piec of cardstock and putting it into a page protector. The ephemera is nestled in the page protector. Although because some of the ephemera was more difficult to get at, I scanned the contents and made an envelope out of the page with the items inside the envelope. The trick is trying to keep it as flat as possible or using less pages!!! I have a mini photo album filled with words....keep a blank page in between to fill similar words or quotes. My albums are separted by colors also ! I put a colored piece of cardstock tab to find the color!
Love the idea of putting a coloured piece of cardstock as a tab to make things easier to find. Thanks for sharing that idea. I am finding this much better than having everything in small boxes. I will probably eventually move everything over to lever arch files. But I was pleased to be able to use what I had and so this will do for the time being 💕
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia So glad you like the idea of colored cardstock. I got the idea fromt the days when I was working for a retail company which owned many shopping centers. Each lawyers had their centers so I designated a colored file to each center. Then each store had thier own colored tab. ie Shpping Center file=red; store name= blue I would drive the laywers crazy with my system until the CEO of the company loved it and asked to redo all his filing system!! LOL!! I eventually had a problem when the company had too many centers but then managed to divide them by areas !!! Glad those days are over!
Although I like those folders a lot - have them more a less full of bis and pieces. My struggle with smaller items is how to get them out without a lawine of flying away this little paper stuff. Any idea?
I don’t think there is any way around this. Although the smaller the pocket, the less you will put in it. I will be emptying my pockets into a small container when I come to use them, and putting everything back as soon as I have found the pieces I want to use 💕
If you were using images like this in a journal you are going to sell, it would be a complete no no. I don’t sell any of my work and and everything I do is for my own personal use. It is the same as using magazine images in collage.
I know this is an old video but if you’re still looking for storage ideas for ephemera et. I have found stamp collector storage pages on Amazon. They fit in any loose leaf binder and come in variety packs of sizes. I can decorate the binders and enjoy them very much.

@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia oh really that's an idea, thanks Nina I will check it out 😁😁
I think any kind of photo album you use will result in alligator mouth!!!
I imagine that using the images from the art pamphlet is a legal grey area because many are images of work by artists. Do you know?
If you were using images like this in a journal you are going to sell, it would be a complete no no. I don’t sell any of my work and and everything I do is for my own personal use. It is the same as using magazine images in collage.
