If you look closely at Clara's mother's gravestone you'll notice that she died in March 2005, around the same time that "Rose" aired and New Who began. Because of this there's a fan theory that Clara's mother may actually have died in the auton attack from that episode.
The Rings of Akhaten is such an underrated misunderstood episode
Agreed. It is a flawed masterpiece.
Yeah I love the rings of akhaten
No, I understand it just fine. That's why I despise it so much.
@Xtra Spice Mikey That is one of the weirdest angry comments i've ever read. XD
@Xtra Spice Mikey No, i'd say it's 100% wrong. Let's examine this a bit, shall we?
First, i think we can agree that The Rings of Akhaten really is marmite DW, more than any other episode. Those who like it tend to love it, and those who dislike it really hate it. So of course those who like it will feel that it's underrated.
I'm sure there are episodes of DW that YOU feel are not getting the love they deserve. I think that Love and Monsters isn't as bad as it's made out to be. It's not great, but it's not terrible either. Therefore, i think it's underrated. Using the word "underrated" does not mean snobbery, and it's pretty silly of you to put words into Dave's mouth that he never said.
Lastly, it's weird to be so angry at someone's opinion just because they used a certain word. How did you develop this stange aversion to a harmless word?
People downplay the quality of this episode because it’s “baseline” as you put it, but I don’t think it gets enough credit for being a very, very good example of that baseline. An interesting alien civilization and atmosphere, a creepy villain, a fantastic Doctor speech, and a plot resolution that involves both the Doctor AND Clara - this episode’s has just about everything I expect from a Doctor Who episode, except maybe mystery. But for a companion’s 2nd episode, this excels. It feels very comparable to Rose’s 2nd episode way back in series 1... in a good way!
It gets better after viewing a couple of times. I wasn't that keen on first seeing it but I rather like it now.
This is that "super chill" episode for me, theres no big super threat really you are just hanging out with the characters and loving it plus the most epic speech in DW history at the end to top it off
I love this episode. That speech always makes me cry especially when he refers to all the things he's lost as he more recently lost Amy, Rory and two Claras. I love Clara as a companion. Also her mum is Nicola from coronation Street so ya know I can't get that out of my head😂
This is one of my favourite episodes and I think it’s a great introduction for people who haven’t seen the show before. Also at 15:38 - the most important ring of Akhaten
"The Long Song", can't wait to hear it again.
2:23 "Which makes this the most important leaf in human history." Tfw you realize that's a bit of an understatement.
Murray Gold was especially inspired when he did the music for this episode. I get chills every time. The Doctor's speech in this one too... oof. So good. :)
The little girl who played Clara at the park when she met the Doctor with her parents looks a lot like me when I was her age. 😀
Incidentally, Clara is the middle name of the late actress Elisabeth Sladen who played Classic Who companion Sarah Jane Smith and sadly passed away shortly before Jenna-Louise Coleman was introduced as the Doctor's companion.
The value of recording reactions in the past; publications continue during the self-isolation period.
Thank you EMS Productions .....
I love The Rings of Akhaten, a magical episode that shows that, if done well, a basic story can really get to you. I'm a big opera fan and lapsed singer, so this score, one of Murray Gold's finest, presses all the right buttons for me. As a bit of trivia, Merry was played by Emilia Jones, daughter of TV/radio presenter Aled Jones, who shot to fame in the 1980s with his remarkable soprano voice. He was best known for his recording of "Walking In The Air" from _The Snowman..._ no relation to _The Snowmen,_ of course, where we first met Clara ;)
I always thought Clara a great role model. She's a great actress too.
She's probably the best actor who's played a companion imo.
@@lucasdolding6924 agreed 100000%. she's my favourite actress. love me some jenna coleman :)
I'm so happy how Megan liked Clara immediately, wise girl.💜💜😄✌😇
The Rings of Ahkaten holds a special place in my heart because the themes of the episode hit ridiculously close to home to what happened to me/my friends IRL on the day it aired: the death of a very close friend. "The says that should have been..."
The Gunfighters is Doctor Who's musical story. This episode starts off fairly standard, but its ending is really powerful and I think sells 11 and Clara's relationship quite well. General consensus seems to be she was just meh with 11, but I thought she was pretty great for the time she had with him, it's just her dynamic and chemistry with 12 was a lot stronger and way more complex.
Thank you for showing the whole speech. I love this episode so much.
Recorded before The Event.
Eleven is the master of the epic speech. What a gem.
Omg i just searched for this cause of the speech and i saw you guys than i just pressed it like 10 times
This episode is precious. That is all.
I absolutely loved most of this episode. Most episodes have scenes I don't like, so pretty normal. Thanks for continuing these "11th" episodes. 11 was and is my doctor.
Always loved the speeches and love the classic who reference to omega
such a great episode. clara my favorite companion. the doctors speech is so great. one my my top favorite episodes.
My all-time favorite Doctor speech!!!
I just realized that if his memories are being taken this might be where he forgot how many children were on gallifrey
Great video guys! I personally really enjoy this episode :)
Series 7B Clara is my personal least favourite version of her character, but I think Jenna sells it. She is my personal favourite actress, she’s gorgeous and a phenomenal actress. She’s Perfect!
Can’t wait for the next video! Until then, stay safe :)
I really disliked Clara when she joined. It wasn't until Deep Breath that I was able to start liking her. I think she and Matt bring the worst out in one another (there are some moments in the rest of the series 7B where they spoil many moments...) . Her performance isn't right yet for me, I think Jenna plays it too hyperactively - it's a rather stylised performance at this point.
Darren79 I get what you mean! The problem with Jenna's performance in series 7b is down to Moffat imo, as he kept the character a mystery, even from Jenna herself. so she just did the best with what she was given imo. But series 8 onwards I think she nails the character. She's mainly my favourite actress because of series 8 onwards and other shows she's been in :)
And of course I'm a crying mess for the million time watching this speech.💜💜😥
What if the Cantina that Captain Jack was in , when the 10th Doctor introduced him to Alonso is on this planet? That is how the 11th Doctor knew to bring her here, because he came here for Jack.
“By talking to him!”
...no yeah, that sounds about right. It’s basically most of Who 😆
Also oh lawd the anniversary ain’t far now... :D
The BBC remember they have a prosthetics and makeup department 😂
Check out the Lockdown Who choir for the Long Song.
i can’t wait to see Megan react to the day of the doctor !
It’s weird how in Series 7 they say Clara is 24 and so would have been born in 1988 and was 16 when her mum died but then in Series 8 she is 27 and was said to be born in 1986...
8:40 lol they have dragon shouts !!!! dragonborn aliens
I’m guessing that’s a F1 championship winning car poster on the wall behind? Maybe 2012 after Red bulls first two championships? 😉😄
That's the one haha! It's a poster from the end of 2012!
Has anyone had more effect on the doctor than Clara? Have you ever thought of doing a vid on it?
Hey Elliott, can you give us a heads up as to whether you did end up reacting to the entire series? I'm watching alongside so I will watch a few if next week's isn't the next episode. Thank you in advance!
Yes, so we didn't react to Cold War, so Hide will be next Saturdays reaction will be Hide! But we may do a live streamed rewatch of Cold War this week!
@@EMSProductions Nice! Thank you. Are you guys doing well and safe?
Rubbish ep until the speech. One of the best speeches
3:14 cool theory from Megan
Anyone else find what's presumably a lens crack?
The plot on this one is a fairly average "new companion's first outing" type episode. However, the music and emotions in this episode make it waaaay above average for me.
I wouldn't be at all sad if you skipped 7x8 and 7x12. Of course you've probably already filmed everything, I just hope you got through the Christmas special before COVID hit! :)
If you don’t react to all your still watching them off camera right?
i didnt know steve merchant did reaction videos lol JK ☻
Jeezo u recorded this on the first of feb?! Where are u now in the series? Jodie?
Haha no! We have watched Deep Breath but that's as far as we made it before lockdown. But yeah there's still a good few weeks of reactions to come!
EMS Productions damn the lockdown lol at least u did the 50th and start of capaldi
@@bananasaregood8655 Did you do Night of the Doctor too?
Does anyone else remember fans throwing their toys out of the pram at the time of broadcast and calling this the "WORST EPISODE EVER"? Kind of funny to realise that we've basically looped around to the point where most people have come to the agreement that this episode is actually pretty good
Getting ready for this to be said about other so called 'worst episodes ever'.
People have already started to come around to The Tsuranga Conundrum and have said it's not as bad as their first impression. Us Who fans seem to be quite a fickle bunch.
@@lucasdolding6924 Love and Monsters, Fear Her, Victory of the Daleks, Kill the Moon, Sleep No More, Lie of the Land, all episodes that people claimed were the "worst ever" and "ruined the show". I look forward to this time next year when people start saying Orphan 55 wasn't THAT bad
Christian Wise I feel like some people have already been saying it’s not that bad. I certainly don’t think it was the worst episode ever, it was just pretty poor, and people get so reactionary when it comes to new episodes, either by overhating or over-praising.
Hope you two are okay
‘I know things, secrets that must nevr be told, knowledge that must nevr be spoken!’
Sigh...unfortunately u dnt know as much secrets as u think doc....😡 thanks chibbers!!👎
