Actually kitchen scissors work best because they are meant to cut through chicken bones and such so they are strong enough. Plus you can pick up a pair of kitchen scissors at the dollar store for a buck. I would not use clear nail polish to coat the earrings because it will crack and peel off over time. It’s much better to use a regular or UV resin on these. Plus the resin gives a much prettier finish to the item. You can also use a coat of clear polyurethane. You really don’t have to do all of that sanding to remove the logos on the can. You can just paint over it with spray paint or a paint for metal. I hope this helps. HAPPY CRAFTING EVERYONE. Dee😊👍
What if you don´t have all theese you mention, I think it was good ideas though 🤭
I make bottle cap earring from my favorite beers. I've been wanting to do something different, so excited to use these beautiful cans I've been saving! Thank you so much!!!💕
Thank you so much for the share, i do things with my Arizona Cans, not sure why i never thought to do this... Huggles to you!
You have expanded my awareness of the ways the die-cut machines can be used. Thanks.

Thanks Melody, Wishing you a creative & crafty day! Aloha, Shelley
Hi Melody, I don't have any currently in the shop. I will have some soon... Thanks for watching and taking time to reach out. Aloha, Shelley
Your the first video I watched concerning tin to make earrings. I’m looking forward to learning. I like your voice!!! That’s a huge plus!!! 🤗
I can’t believe i’m going to give a tip after watching you for the first time. It’s about sanding off the print on the can. I’m new to tin but not to the awesome craft and art world. Anyways, instead of sandpaper I used steel wool. It was a monster drink. I hate those things! But I can’t tell my son of 38 not to drink them. So I look forward to getting to know you!
Happy creating
something else that I have never tried! I really have too this is super cool! as you can see going back to the beginning of your crafty series :)

Really enjoyed your video, I have been cutting soda cans with die cuts to use on greeting cards. I don’t do any painting, I just like the original coloring on the can. I’m excited to try these. I have used alcohol inks for the background for cards, but never tried them on soda cans. Thank for sharing

They are so fun and cute.
These look great. It makes me want to try my own.
Wondering if paint could be removed by using paint stripper on them? Then no more sanding. just a thought.
♥️🍃🤗🍃♥️
Those are awesome! 😍😍
I am so glad I found this AGAIN Shelley..I have a couple of little cans, that I have been saving, but couldn't remember if you ran them through your die cutting machine or not!
HI Sue, You can use a punch or a die cutting machine. They both work well. It is fun and addictive. lol Wishing you a creative & crafty week.!

They are beautiful.

Thanks for this tutorial. I know it was made several years back but is it necessary to sand the edges of the pendants so they aren’t too sharp? Thanks!

What is a die cutting machine and what if you don't have one. Can you still cut them out using a wire cutter
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Hi, love your video, very clear about what to do. However, I know nothing about die cutting/embellishing machines. Any chance of doing a video showing what they are and what they can do? Also, which ones would you recommend? Thanks
Hi Brighdelynn, I will do a video on my die cutting machine. Give me a few days.... Thanks for the suggestion
CUTE earrings!
For those of us who have never used a die machine could you do a tutorial using the different types you have. I really like these.
HI Jackie, I can def make a video of the die cutting machine I have. There are tons on youtube of all available types. I will make one in the near future so stay tuned. Thanks for the request. Wishing you a creative & crafty week. Aloha, Shelley

Thea Pls pls message me your address. You won pair of earrings.
Love this idea.
Thanks Elaine
Thanks.
I am really loving these! Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to try them. Have you ever accidentally cut yourself in working with the aluminum cans?
Hi Paula, I have never cut myself. The edges aren't sharp when you use a punch or die. They are sharp when you cut them with scissors. You can use sand paper or an emery board to file them. I hope you enjoy making them. Aloha, Shelley
Awsome sauce Shelly!! I was asking can you paint with nail polish. LOL.. You said even with nail polish. I adore recycled art. No die cuts only a speech bobble hole punch. Gonna try after i finish the WIP I'm doing now. Wuvs ya tons!!! ❤xo💜xo💙xo💛xo💖xo💚
HI Lori, Have fun making them. See if you can find a circle punch. They are a lot of fun to make. Wishing you a creative & crafty week. Aloha, Shelley
@@CraftingMamas awesome
Do you have to sand them if you are pair of scissors
Love these!!!
Thanks Victor............ you are #7 in the drawing

Lindos!!!!! A minha preocupação é sempre a mesma...a proteção. Não a leva nas beiras, vai cortar!!! Colocar alguma protecção seria melhor. Bjsss Portugal

Pamela ...... pls message me your address. You won pair of earrings.
I just ran across this video... AMAZING
Thanks Rhonda, They are fun to make. I hope you try it. Aloha, Shelley
thank you so much for your reply.
Mantap ibu 🙏🙏
Beautiful ! But, tell me .. is there no problem because of the sharp edges ??
I guess you could only stick you piece of metal on a sheet of polymere clay of the same size, just a bit wider, and manage to obtain that the metal could be slightly inlayed in the polymere clay. Have you thought of another solution ?
Yes--you can put the piece to be cut onto the back of self adhesive foam and run through the sizzix
What is the punch you're using?
I have heard that acetate (Fingernail Polish Remover) will remove the paint from the cans. I will have to give it a try the next time there is a can of soda in my house...lol. Thank you for sharing, the earrings are beautiful. How do you keep the edges from being sharp enough to cut you? ~SuzyJCinColorado~
HI Suzy, I haven't tried it. I will definitely give it a go. No the cans aren't sharp after you use a punch or a die cutting machine. You can also sand them with an emery board if you feel they are. TFW and sharing your time with me. Aloha, Shelley
I have heard rubbing alcohol. But boiling helps first.
Beautiful! I wish my talents included making jewelry, but I can't deal with the tiny findings and rings.
I am making tin can earrings now but do u do anything to the sides of them so they aren't sharp on the edges?
Hi Sharon, I used a punch and a die cutting machine so the round the edges a bit. You can use an emory board to file any rough edges and that works great. Happy creating! Aloha, Shelley
Love this!
Thanks for watching! Happy creating!
Just beautiful! What type of cutting machine? I was trying to find one in Amazon.de and I was not sure if it has to be a specific brand.
Hi Ana, I am using a Big Shot die cutting machine. Sizzix 2118736004 Big Shot Starter Set Maschine inklusive verschiedenem Zubehör
@@CraftingMamas Thank you soo much. :)
@@CraftingMamas how much are they?
@@wildcreatrix You can get a big shot on sale for $79. Look on scrapbook.com or on Amazon
Can U use a liquid or something other than sandpaper to remove the original outter design in order to create your own double sided look? LOVELY work U do !!.. T4S ❤
Hi Marie, I haven't found anything that works other than sanding. If you figure something out pls share it with me. Happy creating! Aloha, Shelley
Very Beautiful. I just have a couple of questions. Do you ever accidentally cut yourself. I'm thinking the edges of the earrings are still sharp even after shaping or cutting. Do you treat the edges in any way to keep from accidentally cutting yourself while wearing them? Im just wondering.
Hi Josie, They are not sharp if you use a punch or die cutting machine. Free hand cutting can be a little sharp. Use an emery board or sand paper and gently sand the edges. I hope that helps and I hope you try and make some. Happy creating!!!! Aloha. Shelley
They are very thin, yes, you can hurt yourself!!
Great question!
I have never cut myself making or wearing them. When you use a punch or die cutting machine the round the edges just a little. If you free hand cut them use an emory board and and file the edges of the metal. Hope that helps. Aloha, Shelley
Josie Ojeda look at min 4
I'm gonna try and make some for Momma. :)
It is so easy and a lot of fun! I am sure she will love them.
What does the stamping come from is it from the sanding it looks like you hammered it
Hi Donna, I ran the metal through an embossing folder. That is what gave it the texture. Hope that helps, Aloha, Shelley
Do you use the embossing folder alone or you run it through a machine with the folder.
What is the stencil have u used
Have you ever tried getting just a glass of water leaving it and then it's set to get to room temperature then taking fingernail polish and is dropping it in there on top of the water different colors and then taking a needle a long needle or long straight pin and kind of making designs where you have dropped the fingernail polish all the different colors that you had dropped in there in this world it to make a design and then the one that you have cut out take you a wooden score skewer and put some clay that will really stick and hold it and swirl it around in that water where you have put the fingernail polish bring it out after you clean it off a little bit on the sides and look at the design I think it would be awesome
Sounds like fun Betty, I will definitely try it.
How do you keep the edges from cutting you? the earrings are really pretty.
Hi Virginia, They aren't sharp of you use a punch or die cutting machine. If you cut them with scissors they can be. So you can use an emery board and sand the edges or use light weight sand paper. Hope that helps. Aloha, Shelley
Really creative!!
Thank you so much 😊. I’ve missed the giveaway....☹️ but I really love 💕 these beautiful and stunning earrings. Great tutorial.
Thanks Mags, I hope you make some for yourself....
Thanks, Something I can use my alcohol ink on. Haven't used it much yet.
Wear gloves ... I am still sporting the stain on my fingernails after scrubbing for days..... I don't mind, but they are green... hahahah
You say tin can, but I think you actually mean aluminum cans if they are from soda cans right? Canned vegetables are tin coated steel. Great video. I have done things like this for years and it is fun! Good job!
Yes bet, aluminum cans... Although you can make them from tin as well. I have made them from both. Wishing you a creative and crafty week , Aloha, Shelley
Give away closed........ Thanks for all who watched and commented.
Crafting Mamas do u have Facebook page
Hi, thanks for the video, don't you sand the edges?
HI Maria, When you use a punch or die cutting the edges are not sharp. If you use scissorrs then yes you would need to sand the edges. Hope that helps, Aloha, Shelley
Crafting Mamas yes, thanks!
Thank you
Thanks for watching. Have a creative day.
How do one keep from cutting their finger on the edge of the earing by it being metal?
Hi Dorothy, Mine aren't sharp because I used a punch. If you free hand cut them use sand paper or an emory board to smooth the edges. Wishing you a creative & crafty week. Aloha, Shelley
When you say "tin" can, you really mean aluminum, right? You are not using , say, soup or vegetable cans, I assume. Just making sure. Love your work!
Yes Teresa it is a soda can... aluminum can...... Not the soup or veggies one. Sorry for any confusion.
I would love to have a pair I make a variety of crafts

I don't mean to be picky but your using aluminum cans not tin, the reason I watch is because I thought you were using tin.
HI Linda, If you have a die cutting machine you can use tin in it. You need to use the thick steel cut dies for it. A punch would not work on it. Happy creating , Aloha, Shelley
304 Peach Tree Cir NE Cleveland, TN 37323, thank you, I am telling everyone!
So cute . But sanding .
Are you concerned about sharp edges?
H Cassandra, They are only sharp when you use scissors. The edges aren't sharp after die cutting and embossing. If you find them sharp use a fine grit emery board. Thanks for commenting and watching!
Hi Cassandra, I hope I answered your questions. You are #5 entered into the drawing.
S. King Thank you very much for the answer and the entry.
