its amazing how so many previous presidents and political figures from decades or even hundreds of years ago have warned against so many of the things that we are seeing happening today and in many cases have become the norm in American society, like how Eisenhower warned against the rise of the military industrial complex and the drafters of the constitution warned against the use of foreign aid to help a politician get elected, but those lessons have long since been forgotten

It's become less and less common once Republican operatives determined that they needed to create an alternative reality and prevent crimes from undoing a president, post-Nixon. Through deregulating and expanding talk radio, and then going all in on cable TV like FoxNews, they have been able to construct a fantasy land for their voters to reside in. Studies demonstrate that FoxNews watchers aren't just ignorant but actually very wrong. They demonstrated that you would know more about the news of the world if you watch no news at all than if you watched FoxNews. In the various court cases against talk radio and FoxNews personalities, they argue over and over that they are not reporters and no one can be expected to take them seriously. Which is obviously disingenuous, but it does demonstrate that they can't back up all the crazy that they spout when lying on the stand would put them in jail.
This construction of an alternative reality isolates Republicans who have bought into it from the reality based community. There have been Republicans who refuse to buy into the propaganda, but they are generally expunged from the party. I attended a conservative university at the end of the Bush era and beginning of the Obama one. Several of my professors were deeply involved in Republican politics. Basically all of them have been forced out. I have conservative friends, but I don't have any Republican friends.

“The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism[…] It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection.” - founding father and President George Washington (September 19th 1796)

@@RosheenQuynh I don't see any solution to it. You're system would be in need of a fundamental reform.
As long as everything depends on strong parties behind your back (presidency, senat, representatives, even judge chairs), and as long as there are only two powerful enough, neither of them would and had an interest in splitting up!
How would the GOP even split up? Trumpist & Libertarians.
The US Dem. Party actually resembles a wide spectrum of typical european centre and leftist parties (labour, greens, socialists, even liberal conservatives, someone like lord dampnut really is at the far right of the political spectrum in europe!) ... so in a way, the Dem. party already is one big compromise.
But GOP in contrary is a compromise of racists, religious fanatics and selfish entrepreneurs (just my opinion...)
Yet none of them would give up their powers.

Prior to maybe this past decade I thought I understood more or less both political parties and as a youth I felt very much like a centrist. There was racism which was bad, but very much a part of both parties. There were the wealthy business owners self centered and the delusion of the middle class assisted by media that wealth was around the corner, but it was again very much a part of both parties. I mean each party had it's stand, but I got the impression society as a whole was moving in the right direction if slowly. But there has been a shift against science and against what is called political correctness, but is honestly just a perception of shared humanity that made me go wait, what? Then you ask what's going on? The answers are "I'm not racist, but" or "I'm not mysogynistic, but". So I see family and friends saying these things, and I start to wonder if I ever knew them at all.

The history of policing is pretty much impossible to disentangle from the history of bad laws, the history of passing too many laws, the history of bad practices, and the reflection of the flaws and poor attitudes and prejudices in society in each era. It may make it difficult to consider how law enforcement could work and what specific reforms could make it work as fairly and safely as possible.

It's somewhat normal that you do not have close friends in opposite parties. In Germany e.g. that's neither usually the case. Although we have more parties and a wider spectrum, you would hardly see friendships between a green/socialist and libertarian/conservative, it's more like center block and left and right wing. But this differentiation actually makes it much more fluid than the american political culture.

Now this is my type of history teacher, explaining how badly the political parties are. And yet no one ever would consider removal of the political parties from a president but yet, it could only be done with a independent party which is “no political party” but only your beliefs and what your own rulings you want if they accept the rulings you want. I am gonna be honest being if it was possible to have a president that goes against the political parties and got the right to remove the parties with very good choices and rulings for us all. Only the best president in history would do that if we get one like that.

The real question is, why do you guys only have two parties. Also, why do you guys have an electoral college in the year 2024? Both is not normal for a developed democracy, think about that!

Humans have different opinions. Humans are also social creatures that form tribes. It was insane to suggest that political factions should be prevented. In single party states, there are still political factions. They are just hidden from the wider populace. In Washington's administration, Hamilton and Jefferson formed competing factions. In communist countries there are plenty of different factions, for example Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin headed separate factions within the CCP. It's only in multi-party states that provide voters actual power, and the more parties the better. Coalition governments force politicians to make their faction alliances out in public. The Democratic party and Republican party are also riven by faction, but those negotiations are behind closed doors.
That's all that Washington's philosophy amounted to: keeping the common people strictly limited to choosing the most distinguished members of their local community to give power and keeping them out of political discussions.

    2 parties ?
I was taught there are 6 parties
Republican , democratic , conservative , liberalism , independent , constitutionalist . There may be more , but they are so small that nobody supports those parties
