I would love to see a follow-up video of games that weren't checked out but should have been and showing them off a little bit more. I'm always looking for a good hidden gem!
"TOP 10 Hidden Gems in the Dice Tower library that don't get checked out (enough)" could be a interesting TOP 10 video with Tom, Zee and ...
I agree, that would make for a great Top Ten with Tom, Zee, and someone else.
Top Ten Games NOT Played at Dice Tower
Yes, please do this! And please call out the rare games as well - it takes a long time to read through 2300+ game titles let alone look up those that aren't familiar!
Yes, let’s get this list!!
Good idea!!
one thing worth noting that they failed to mention, on conventions mostly games that are checked out are games not in people's collections.
Good point! Definitely skews the data
Whoever did this Bill Conti ("Rocky") theme adaptation legit deserves a Grammy
Thank you!
I LOVE Sky Team. I can't believe how much I got hooked on it and I play it with my 7 and 10 year old without issue. I played it on BGG a bunch and absolutely bought it when I went to a convention.
You could do a video before an event as a PSA of rare games, and general games that people could give a look to from the library.
Bloody Inn was definitely in the library for Dice Tower West - I checked it out and we stumbled through it with some strangers and we had a great time :)
At Dice Tower West, I saw all kinds of people who brought The Crew from home. It's fairly easy to carry.
Why the heck is Fast Sloths not in print??
Aquatica getting some love out there is great to hear :)
usually gets a lot of love from Tom
DT has the most amazing library!
We had a small board game summer camp/convention here in Estonia last weekend. Also played Forest Shuffle there for the first time. Really loved it. :)
Mike checked out Formula E and hid the copies of the Crew
It was surprisingly cozy hearing about all of these games in the library. Some of those zero checkout games aren't ones I'd think to get until after seeing them here and wishing I'd could try them out.
I wish Dice Tower could publish a recommended low to not played games to convention attendees for a give it a try!
Goes to show Harnonies should have gotten a Spiel nomination :( (and probably Forest Shuffle for the Kenner)
Sparkle Kitty (nights) did get played! It was just our copy and at our villa :)
I might have missed it, but I felt like even fall was constantly checked out when I was there. Had to come in early to check it out. How many plays did that one have!
Hogging a brand new game for 12 hours at a convention is crazy work.
Thanks for sharing these stats. Always interesting. Question for those that attended - how loud was it to play at the convention? Did you find it hard to hear others at your table speaking?
This year was much quieter than last year, even with more people. The larger main hall was super nice.
You have to watch FIRST CONTACT before you get to Picard Season 3. Love your work! Keep it up!
Some games don’t get checked out because they own them already. I wouldn’t check out Crew because I own several copies and play it almost daily.
I love me some Mountain Goats! Especially with the expansion- definitely essential. I am glad it got play alot.
Put a “guestbook” on each hot games table. Easy way to collect data.
That's a little inelegant (messy, the tables are already full of the game), and it adds a layer of "work" for people playing the game.
4:19 - It would be vastly more financially beneficial to just buy Unlock games and resell them after you play them than to buy a ticket (and whatever travel fees) to play them at a convention.
We worked the late shift library several nights. People LOVED White Castle, Things in Rings, and Pokémon Splendor. And Thunder Road. Also, People LOVED Mountain Goats
Zee, you need to play Rajas Of The Ganges. It’s a classic!
I only checked out one, and it was Star Wars The Queen's Gambit.
Is there ever going to be a dice tower north?
there should be! Millennium Games would be a great venue for it :)
Does anyone know if there will be any sellers at GenCon selling imported games? I’ve been trying to find a copy of Come Sail Away!
Allot of the high play count games played in less than 30 min, and definitely less than an hour
Did you have "The Fox Experiment " there? How many times did it get played?
I think they said 19 toward the end
STILL trying to get a copy of Forest Shuffle. It's just out of stock everywhere. My friend pre-ordered it a year ago and he's going to have the expansion in his hands before he has the base game. I can't find any info about when it will be back in stock, only people saying it's back in stock in the US (which doesn't help me).
Tom Vasel, if it could be possible, you should have attendees log their game plays of their own copy of a game. (Participants wouldn't log, just the owner of the game when they play with other people.) This could show some games are being played much more than just the check outs from the library. Also, the games played in the Hot Games room should be logged also. (Have the person that is first Player 1 in each play logs the play.)
Yeah, I think that would detract from the fun of the con. While some people would enjoy that, many people would find that tedious and unenjoyable.
How many times was In the Year of the Dragon?
If you guys know the amount of time a game was checked out, total play time might be more valuable than times checked out as it puts the longer games on even(er) footing with short games.
We can't do that, because some people check games out for TOO long (overnight, etc.) and it throws off the stats. I could probably run some sort of program to eliminate "too long" times, but at that point we've gone too far. :)
@@thedicetower that's fair. Wow, you really are up at 5:00 am every day! Guess I should head to bed.
It is called "THE Bloody Inn" so maybe that's why you guys were having issues finding it on the list??
Hot Games Room Tracking ideas PART 2
Idea 1: guestbook (in my experience, people like signing guestbooks.)
Idea 2: video record the room (privacy issues)
Idea 3: badge scanner at table
I love the River, but it's such an old school design for this day and age. I'm afraid the time for tight, engine building worker placements with quaint themes is over.
Expeditions might have been more but it was missing an important tile.
Yes it was missing tile 16. I also brought a copy.
Wandering Towers is great. Its a real shame the SDJ didnt recognize it because its miles ahead of Captain Flip.
#7 didn't shock me like someone said it would. Mountain Goats is the ideal of a game I'd check out at a con, something I probably wouldn't seek out to buy without having first played, but you hear plenty of good things about.
The only one that did really surprise me is Cities because it just looks so incredibly lame, but different strokes for different folks and all.
So basically, if the game was newer and light to very light (less than 2 weight) usually got checked out a lot. Only game in the top 10 I've played was Pokemon Splendor (and, yes it's better than Splendor).
come on Tom, play Sky Team. It's one of the most thematic and intense games for two that I've ever played!
Roy checked out all the space games using his jedi mind trick 😂
Also, isnt Fast Sloths from 2019? Thats not old.
I would weight the checkouts based on average play time. If a game takes 15 minutes to play then much more opportunity to be checked out more often v. a game like Brass that will be a 90-120 minute game. Also, Brass Birm a 5 ranking? Think I knew that, but still shocking.
There is a new card game just came out this March, Star Wars Unlimited. Second series came out this month. Its a collectable card game. Ever interested in adding this in dice tower?
Did they ever say what Dune War for Arrakis got?
Will this data get published to the dice tower statistics FB page?
There’s a Dice Tower Statistics FB page?! Where? Lol
I don't get Sky Team only because the theme is silly. It's probably a great game if you ignore the fact that pilots not communicating with each other is absurd :).
I think it's a lot more thematic than you do. Watch enough aviation incident videos, like MentourPilot's, and you'll see that pilots have so much to do on their own in such incredibly stressful situations that they don't have a lot of time to communicate verbally and what little they do communicate needs to be perfect. Besides, verbal communication is only one type of communication, you can also communicate by your actions and inactions.
If I had to work with the same person for an 11 hour international flight, we wouldn't be talking by the end of it either 😅
Dragons Rule, birds drool!! 😄
Does 1 checkout equal to 1 play?
Well my family checked out Haunted Mansion 3 different times 😂
OMG! Zee's face at 1:05 nearly made me wet my pants!😂
I think I was more interested in what Tom rated the games lol
which games were on the hot games list?
You can see it in the Travel Log video.
Not trying to beat a dead horse but Catan wasn't pulled?
What system do you guys use for signing out games at the con? Also how do yall keep track of what gets signed out? I’ve worked some smaller cons that use a drivers license exchange and it was cumbersome so I’m looking for other alternatives to suggest. Thanks for all the fantastic videos!
They have all badges and games with bar codes and scan everything in and out. Makes it fast and easy to gather data.
How are there 2300 games. 45% were played but only 800 some games were checked out 0 times? Wouldn't it be 1200+ games not checked out
No, 45% were played more than once.
I don't like that, in order to get the information from this video, I can't skip through most dialogues and get the actual list of games. It's pretty useful to have cover appearing on screen or at least, a list of games at the end, just like in your other videos like top 10.
If you want just the list, you can join the Facebook group Dice Tower Statistics
@@thedicetower It's appreciated that the information is out there, but that still doesn't explain why, contrary to other videos on your channel, the information isn't displayed in this video as well.
@@vonwoolf9963 Oh, because I never do that in the stat videos. There's just TOO many stats!
Why click on a video that’s almost an hour long and complain that it isn’t summarized in a short easy to read list? 😂
@@whatdoesnt Because I've seen the channel do it before for top 10 videos ?
Changing the theme of Surfosaurus Max is a travesty.
Forest Shuffle… until you realize the game only comes down to who gets the Wolves and Deer.
Was potion explosion even in the library?
it makes sense. everyone and their mother owns (or knows someone who owns) Viticulture. why go to a convention to play Viticulture? lesser-known games like Vinyl - people either cannot find it, or don't want to buy it just to try. makes more sense to try at a convention something that is not so available everywhere (either it's expensive, or it's new, or it's hard to find, out of print). exceptions are party games and smaller games that don't take much time - they will always be played.
You’d be surprised how many people don’t own games that others would find very popular.
Venn was terrible because the aggressively unattractive cards made it unpleasant to play. Things in Ring might be better?
Dead of winter WAS overrated. I think people have started to cool on it. It’s just not fun when your secret objective makes you do something completely illogical just for the sake of creating false suspicion….. and no amount of role-playing can ever change the fact that what you’re doing is obviously illogical. Role-playing doesn’t fix the problem.
DEI is a really good game but really fell off the map not long after release. It's in desperate need of a Dice Tower review.
We did review it!
@@thedicetower Ah, my bad. That must have passed me by.
Animals of baker street is silly cuz it’s a “game for the whole family!!” … plays 4….
I thought Fox in the Forest was lame.
