I’ve seen two of these along with a Type 30,38,and 99 at my local military museum. The 99 looked like it’s been in an attic for a while due to the rust.
I know this is a casual review, but please consider mounting the camera facing down onto a light background, so we can see all the features, marks, and intricacies of the bayonets. That being said, it was a good video which helped me differentiate and make a slightly more informed purchase.
I have a good friend that lives in California he is 97 years old and was a Japanese soulder in WW2 well recently he gave me a Arasaka Type 99 rifle and the bayonet, but what he was telling me about Japanese bayonets was when they made the type 30 bayonets they wanted to have the blade as close to a short Samurai sword as possible the Japanese even trained with the type 30 using Bushido training technics using the bayonets when training with the bayonet in hand to hand combat
It would be interesting to see what they were trained to do. Considering that these weren't sharpened, I would imagine that you always worked for a thrust. Minor side note: Bushido isn't a style of fighting. Not sure if that's what you meant by it, but that's how I read it. Really cool that you got that rifle from him.
I picked up an early model bayonet to go with my early model Type 99. Only thing I need to complete it now is an original monopod. Unfortunately, finding one of those on its own is rare...
Thank you for saying so. We try and put out a video every-other day. It gives enough time for people to watch the last one, and is frequent enough so folks don't forget about us. Sometimes we do back-to-back vids, and occasionally its a 3 day gap, usually when we're either working on something big or out of town.
Ah, that helps. I have 3 bayonets. 2 have a hooked quillon but one is blued and the other is in the white. Both have the Tokyo Arsenal/Kokura Arsenal marking (no idea when they were made). The other is blued and has the straight guard, same blade design. So at least I can say with more confidence that my bayonet that has no bluing on the blade is my oldest one.
I have the first bayonet variety with the hook. At the base it has a marking like a circle overlapping another circle. I think this stamp means Arisaka Steelworks. I wonder if its worth anything without the scabbard.
Are last ditch bayonets expensive and rare? I encountered a type 30 bayonet with no fuller made by Matsushita Kinzoku KK arsenal with a metal scabbard.
I love bayonets!! So it makes sense I love this video. I think bayonets are beautiful modern swords in battlefield but by now out of date but still fucking awesome!!!!as always Miša don't change anything about you we love you and i believe that you are awesome ! greetings from Slovenia .P.S i try to comment on every video you and other gun community you tubers make just to show UA-cam we are active and should not be ignored and we demand you creators from gun Community should be paid fairly

Fun fact: The famous British 1907 Pattern Bayonet from WWI was essentially a copy of the Japanese Type 30 Bayonet.
Lol, that pan of the camera to catch the cat walking the counter, unexpected!
Thanks guys I did not know anything about Japanese Bayonets.
Truely glad you learned a couple things from this video. If you haven't already, please do checkout the Japanese playlist also.

I'd love to start a firearms museum one day.
Had one my Grandpa got coming home from WW2. Thanks the video helped clarify what I've got.

Nice video and thanks for the information Mishaco!
Nice. I wouldn't mind seeing more bayonet videos.
Yeah, been meaning to do an AK bayo video. Its just a matter of digging them all out haha
I'll make sure Jay reads your comment. His job might afford some interesting items to show off.

The sheath of the first one you demonstrated is not the early version.
Thank you for a great education on Japanese bayonets. I’m looking to buy one for my early arisaka 99.
How much are you willing to give

Those are some long sticking sticks Misha!!
Yes, yes they are.
Nice Bayonets
I leaned from your video that my Arisaka bayonet is an early model (hooked quillion)
How much you buy
