    Thanks for putting together this explanation of your process. You've done a lovely job, and so much work! One comment on some of your commentary when talking about your research--
    You left out Smith! Rider, Waite, Smith tarot is far from the first tarot. It's only 150 years old. Tarot history stretches out at least 500+ years.
    It's important to remember Smith. She was the artist! Rider and Waite were a couple of smart ass victorian dudes who tried to define what every card means down to the letter. That's not how the cards were originally viewed and used. Smith was cut out for a long time from the deck's name, but she (the art) is a large part of the reason for the popularity of the deck, she breathed life into the ideas of Rider and Waite.

      Do you mean Pamela? If so I love her she’s such an inspiration and we share some of the same heritage which I love even more since I used that deck and her illustrations as a guidepost for mine 🥹💕 I did a lot more research after this, I’m aware of all of this now but will pin this comment for anyone else that might not have known! ❤️❤️ thanks for the lovely comment :) x

      And it’s super unfortunate that this happens a lot in history but I’m so happy she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves and was able to create something so amazing and influential 🥹

    Thank you for explaining all this, as I'm planning on doing both Tarot and Oracle decks in the near future! Brilliant!
    Just for reference though (yes I'm a Tarot nerd):
    - the origin of Tarot decks is in the 1400s, in Italy, France and Germany. Those decks were just playing decks though, and not divination ones.
    - in the late 1700s, there was two types of decks emerging, depending on use - one magical and the other for playing cards.
    - the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, which you used as an inspiration, was created in 1909 (so not a first at all haha) - it's one of the most straightforward Tarot decks for divination thanks to its detailled illustrations, which is why it remains a fan favourite.
    The 3 most popular Divination tarot decks (and following systems derived from those) are thus:
    - the Rider-Waite-Smith (from England)
    - the Tarot de Marseilles (from France)
    - and the Thoth tarot deck (from England) - which is the most esoteric of the 3.
    I'm always excited to discover other people's interpretations of the Arcanas, so looking forward to seeing yours. :)

      Oh thank you Alex! That’s such wonderful and valuable information 😍 haha that’s why I said don’t quote me 😂❤️ I do remember reading about them being used as games first! It’s amazing how they went from that to what they are now! I will be having a look at the decks you mentioned! 😍 I hope you like mine! I’m hoping it will be out soon ! Good luck with your decks too 😍❤️

    I have so many questions and I am so mind blown by your art and how insightful this video is.
    Out of curiosity for someone who is trying to start their own deck from scratch & researching into it I am finding myself asking the following.
    1: What size does the art have to be when submitting it to a manufacturer ? It seemed as if yours was done traditionally & not digitally. But if you did do them digitally what canvas size is good to just make a start for the artwork? or is there a card template online ?
    2: Is there a template for the book to type it up?.
    3: How do you make the box art design?

    • @lalalandofclouds
      @lalalandofclouds  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Treh!! Ahh I’m so glad you found this video helpful 🥹✨ hopefully I can answer your questions well!
      So 1. When working digitally for stuff like this I would say make sure your canvas is at least 300DPI with a height of around 3800 pixels (that’s what I usually use for my digital work) . The printers do actually also give you a super detailed outline of card sizing and they send you a preview before printing that shows how the cards will fit.
      2. The book design I made myself in adobe indesign! It’s actually super super useful for making book style layouts, I made the graphic elements in photoshop and imported them into Indesign :)
      3. The print company I used (Print ninja) actually provide a template for the box and you just drag and drop the artwork on and send it to them and they do the hard stuff :~D
      I hope that’s helpful if you have anymore questions just let me know 😌 x

    I know I’m watching this a bit in the future, thank you for the wonderful video and information. One thing I’m struggling with is I have really abstract and specific ideas but lacking the artistic ability to draw the art myself 😂 would you suggest paying someone to draw them? I’m a little worried about hiring someone and them not being able to recreate what I’m picturing. Any and all advice from anybody would be much appreciated. xx thank you again

    • @lalalandofclouds
      @lalalandofclouds  Рік тому

      oh this is a really interesting one! SO I think in this case I would 100% hire someone! If you can I would find someone who's art style is SUPER close to what your envisioning just so your not disappointed, maybe even pay the artist for a sample first just to see if they can create what your looking for :) I know a lot of artists and writers collaborate on decks so I don't see why you couldn't do something similar with an artist! Even if you could do a rough little drawing to help guide them that would work really well!

    Hello, Olivia Rose 😊 Yeeears ago, I was part of the Art Instagram community and we even spoke a few times (that's my lame claim to fame haha). I drifted from Instagram when my MiL passed and I became a mom. When I saw that you made a tarot deck, I rushed to buy it. Never bought a deck so fast, and I instantly bonded so deeply with it and the art. It's just stunning. I'm an experienced reader, and your deck reads so clearly. I'm very grateful to have a little piece of your magical art 🥰
    I can't wait to make decks of my own. I have dozens of tarot and oracle ideas. One of them I've been working on lately is insects 👀🐛🦋 Still trying to figure out what size I should make my art so that it comes out crisp on a card. Do you have a size recommendation? I'm usually a traditional artist, but I want to dabble in both traditional and digital for my decks, so if you could recommend sizing for each of those formats, that would be so helpful! ♡♡♡
