As talented as Mr. Greenwood is, this arrangement he was given leaves something to be desired. It's my observation that this is supposed to be a BATTLE hymn! It is not meant to be a ballad, a dirge or a lament! Pick up the pace! With all due respect to Mr. Greenwood of-course.
This song is almost always sang at a slower pace. I have never heard it sang upbeat or fast
it should be in march like cadence and you are right this is one of those songs that people try to embellish too much it should sir ones soul to a proud and victorious style
