The Dumas is one of the latest automatic watch releases from watchmaker Spinnaker. With an octagonal shape, it's a muscular diver watch inspired by 1970s watch designs and pays homage to classics like Omega. It has a 44mm case, thickness of 15mm, weighs 20g, and a water resistance rating of an impressive 300m (1,000ft). It's got a sapphire crystal covering the face of the watch and a mineral crystal bezel, both of which feature Swiss Super Luminova lumes. Inside, it has the Seiko NH35 TMI movement.

It was good that it happened before I finished the video, for sure.
I think the same thing can happen to any watch. I’ve dropped my phone down the stairs many times, but the time it slipped out my pocket 2 ft to the floor the screen cracked. Goes to show!
It is mineral crystal so you should not expect such a fragile material to hold up in the first place. Idk why they didn't just use an aluminum insert, would not have cracked.
For me, one of the most important qualities of a watch is durability. All of my watches are automatic and are beat to shit. But they work and look great. Hopefully this mishap is just a rare circumstance

You’re suppose to wear a watch behind your wrist bone not on your hand. Obstructs movement and less comfortable
The shape of my arms pushes the watch forward. And I can't stand a loose watch. So ... this is where it stays.
Best Damn EDC had that exact problem until I ordered one of the archer straps from the last watch videos description and man it’s the best strap I’ve used. Doesn’t move and stays in a nice comfortable place.
I prefer mine down low by the hand , not obstructive , more comfortable .

Is the mineral crystal, it's very fragile. I haven't allowed a non sapphire crystal watch on my wrist since I was a sophomore in high school and that was over 20 years ago.
Well, there is a sapphire crystal covering the watch face. But the bezel is what's in question here.

I wish I had seen this review before my purchase. Day 2 the bezel cracked. No love from spinnaker as they referred me to a repair facility which charged enough to purchase another watch. Sinnaker Dumas = Fail.
Damn hope they come through. I have the same watch and love it so far.....

A spinnaker is a huge sail that a racing dingy uses when running (sailing on the leg of a race where the wind is at your back). As you deploy it, the boat accelerates like a turbo charger has just kicked in. The boat will usually plane. It’s very exciting, especially the first time you use one.
Sailing is amazing! Nothing has more power than the wind. You've never truly felt acceleration until you've been aboard a small vessel with a lot of sail and good gust behind you.
Yup! I sailed little Mirror dingys as an 8 year old, so when I got my first shot in a Fireball, with a Spinnaker and a trapeze, it was genuinely mind-blowing!

Try a Deep Blue. Ceramic bezels dont often fail.
I have the Dumas, bought it in 2020 (would of skipped, had I seen your video). Same thing happened. It is actually very common among Dumas owners. some bezels crack with impact. Maybe the mineral glass is somehow forced in there which creates an existing stress on the glass and that any slight contact cracks it. I reached out to Spinnaker. They wanted me to ship the watch back and pay for a service/inspection fee where once inspected, whatever parts that need to be replaced would be added on to the total. Turns out that on these watches, you cannot simply replace the bezel, but need to replace the whole complete case... Glad I didn't send it back to them. got them to sell we the case assembly and ship it to me, that I would deal with the repair on my end. Spinnaker said that it would void the warranty... :) a warranty that doesn't cover anything to start with as Spinnaker will never admit that their watches could have a defect. Interesting fact, Spinnaker uses the same repair facility than Invicta...the brand that loves to screw their clients...
I ordered two. One went to my stepdad, it fell apart. The numerals on the dial came off as well. The second one has the same problem.
I reached out last year and am still waiting.
That sucks that your watch broke! That exact thing happens a lot to me, too, although I’ve never had a watch break. I have scratched a few crystals, though (not sapphire...)!
Yup that's why I only use ceramic or sapphire bezel watches . Aluminum is going to scratch and fade but at least u can swap those out on most watches. I want to like Spinnaker but something about them. These asian companies are putting out decent watches but I don't know. I got a tisell sub took a nasty fall on my skateboard and the rotor fell off. I didn't even hit the watch my hand hit the ground but it was just the force. That would not happen with a Seiko . There are quality control issues for sure with these companies .
The fact that it broke isn’t concerning. If they don’t take care of it that would be super concerning, especially considering they sent it to you to (I assume) drive business
Pity they put a sapphire in then used mineral on the bezel, kind of defeats the purpose of durability, I suppose they have to cost cut somewhere 🤔

Scratched up an expensive casio the first month after getting it. My fault. Wear a scratched casio 3 years later.
Oof. I know that feeling. If this weren't cracked and jagged, I'd honestly probably continue wearing it. But with the shards sticking out, that's a hard no from me.
I don't have a huge screen, but i would be curious to see if there was any indication of the crack prior to it happening.
I have a fairly high-res image of the watch from a couple days before this happened. I've looked and can't seem to see anything telling.
Damn, that pains me as I've done the same to some of my watches. Sorry to hear that, but I like that you provide both the pros and cons, and give companies a chance to prove their customer service. Makes for a nice, honest review.

@@BestDamnEDC it's a good looking watch, especially the face. But seems like products nowadawys, not all but many, have a tradeoff for beauty at the expense of durability (e.g. my indestructible Nokia N3310 vs my shiny and fragile Note 8).
