I've learned how to repair so many things from watching my husband and sons. I'm 66 and replaced the air-conditioning in my car with no help or questions from my mechanic son. Its just so satisfying when you can do it yourself. 👍
Awesome video Asa. Thank you for going through the steps of replacing a sump pump. It's not just a drop and plug in job. Have you ever had tiny lizards 🦎 inside or around in your shrubs and plants in your yard? It just seems like a climate they would thrive in.
Did anyone else feel like you were in big trouble when Asa said, “you’re coming too. Come on.”? Just me? Okay. Sounded like a phrase my mom used to say when I was busted.😂
I heard of some older houses in Phoenix AZ and southern California having basements too. I guess it was a common thing back then in the old days, when they did a lot of canning of foods.
When watching, I was reminded of, and wonder if you know of and if it may be something for you: my father in-law had a gadget that if the pumped stopped working it would send a message to his phone, or to his son when they were traveling. Had to share with you.
Perhaps you could put a camera (i.e. Wyze) down there aimed at the sump pump. You could then "see" what is going on down there without having to squeeze through the little entrance. Also, have you considered putting a water alarm in the basement next to the pump?!? I just had to move my 86 year old mother into a new apartment because the motor on her sump pump failed and totally flooded her apartment! Wish we'd have had these measures in place. Great job on the install!!
Asa my husband and I live in a small town by a river close to Omaha, Nebraska and we also cannot have a basement. We have a 36” crawl space under our house.
How did you know the old one was failing? Did you hear it upstairs? You are so very mechanically included. I am only to a certain point, then my eyes start to cross and my brain hurts!!🤣 Great job!
I put 2 bricks on the bottom of my sump holes and place my pumps on top of the bricks , very little to zero debris get sucked inside pump because it’s an inch or 2 off the ground
I think it would have been worth it to install a check valve. The way it is now, when the pump shuts off, all the water in the 6 feet of of verticle pipe just flows back down into the pit again. After the new pump shut off, you noted how fast the pit was filling up again, thinking it was new water coming in when in reality its the vertical pipe water flowing back down.
Is this what my landlord was doing in our old house (we've always rented) when a 6 year old neighbor flushed an entire toiletpaper roll down the toilet? I think he also had to remove and reinstall the toilet too.
Hope this is last you for a long time but you should pick up an extra kitchen metal strainer. NOT a colander. but a strainer in large/med. size for veggie straining or Cheeses making. It would work a lot better (size appropriate to remove your sentiment ;)
so your house used to stop there at that crawlspace? everything after this spot was added on much later? so that must've been hard on former residences trying to get in there. and scary. it scares me to see water and electricity so close to each other!~
wouldn't a wet vac help better then keep putting the old pump back in. yes yould have to empty it but it is designed for that to suck up silt and water. that is how my dad did it
That was about 40 gallons total. The shop vac would have to be drug out of the hole every time I filled it and while I was dumping it the hole would just fill up again. Way less efficient
Having to access a basement like that is not safe or practical. Probably illegal also. How would you replace or service anything larger than that pump down there?. What idiot closed off the stairs?
Just stop he knows how to fix anything, did you know that he used to work on bikes and other things at the bike shop but that closed a few years ago I believe. He doesn't money money off of people

Great job Asa! When I lived on Long Island, we were only 4 feet about sea level. No one had basements around our area.
Asa, what a handy guy you are to have around!
Seems like a lot of mechanics can fix more than just cars. My dad included.

You had really thought it through. Must be one of the few who enjoyed the blvolg. Love something technical. Keeps you all and Abby safe xx

I’d love to hear more history of your house!
The house Is a dump
@@Patti-sm3sdThey have a beautiful home... WHY do you feel the need to be so negative??
@@Patti-sm3sdwrong to say that about their house its not a dump . So disrespectful
Those huge Knipex pliers probably cost more than the pump itself! lol But they are Very Nice.
Fantastic job! Also, the video is giving "This Old House" vibes. You could be millenial Bob Villa! Lol
Hello & Happy Monday More Maass ❤👍💄
Always learning new things from you. Thanks, Teach!
I’m impressed!!
wow you did a great job love watching a man work. I have never been in a basement. lived in south Florida all my live 71 years
I heard of some older houses in Phoenix AZ and southern California having basements too. I guess it was a common thing back then in the old days, when they did a lot of canning of foods.
Love watching this kind of stuff
Sounds like a monster!
I love a handy man...!😅

Really interesting video good work Asa
Thanks for the installation. Next time, just put the pump in the pit with a check valve and plug it in. Then set the float..then you are done.
Could you hear the sump pump, “coughing,” from upstairs? That would have scared the crap out of me if I didn’t know what it was. 🤣
It sounds really creepy, that would scare me too!
Yes you could
@@moremaass 😱 🤣
We've been there done that Harbor Freight sump pumps are awesome and a great price 😊
If you need a new water heater or a/c unit, how do you get it how or get a new one in
Great job Asa, saves a lot of money when you are able to do it your self. Blessings.
Good work

Do you have a battery backup in case you lose power?
That old sump pump looks like it could’ve been found on the titanic 😅
Asa my husband and I live in a small town by a river close to Omaha, Nebraska and we also cannot have a basement. We have a 36” crawl space under our house.
Where we live what you have is not a basement but a cellar.
How did you know the old one was failing? Did you hear it upstairs? You are so very mechanically included. I am only to a certain point, then my eyes start to cross and my brain hurts!!🤣 Great job!
I was tending to the quail and noticed it wasn’t cycling off. It was just running constantly
I put 2 bricks on the bottom of my sump holes and place my pumps on top of the bricks , very little to zero debris get sucked inside pump because it’s an inch or 2 off the ground
Oddly satisfying,
I live in a 100 year old house too and my AC is in my attic. It is a real pain.
Go Asa
So what happens when your power goes out? Just curious. Thanks.
Run the generator
Asawhynot use the shock vac?

People in Alabama don't have Basements

We just had to replace the battery to our sump pump cost over 300.00 we got a discount because my brother went to a place his work buys from
Sounds like a scary monster is about to come out of the ground. lol
lol pet peeve. It’s not a hot water heater it’s just a water heater. 😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Hope this is last you for a long time but you should pick up an extra kitchen metal strainer.

Yes. The family room, laundry room, lanai, and Isaiah’s room, and garage are all additions
Leave a camera down there to monitor the water
They make water alarms for that
@moremaass I put a camera on the oven to see if it's cooking alright at times. The Blink ones are handy for a bunch of different things
Didn't you tell your neighbor when you and Abbie were washing the cart that you had a finished basement?
No, not a finished basement, just a basement. Nobody has a finished basement here. That’s not a thing
Your ADHD Jack of all trades are showing😂.
wouldn't a wet vac help better then keep putting the old pump back in. yes yould have to empty it but it is designed for that to suck up silt and water. that is how my dad did it
to much to fast for a wet vac

They replaced the water heater through that panel. I don’t really think it’s any less safe than accessing an attic or crawl space.
Good lord, hire someone. We all know you make enough money.
🤔 hmmm, why do have a southern accent in some of you videos and not an accent in others?
I grew up in the Virginia mountains. Our county is considered the moonshine capital of the world…sometimes the accent enters the room
You make unough money off people why not hire someone who knows what they are doing
Just stop he knows how to fix anything, did you know that he used to work on bikes and other things at the bike shop but that closed a few years ago I believe. He doesn't money money off of people
1st, I do know what I’m doing…this isn’t exactly rocket science. 2nd, who are these “people” you speak of aim making money off of? Lol
