I’m not body building for a show or anything. Just watching this out of curiosity… these gentlemen have actually changed my life. And I’m eternally grateful!
Honestly I'm never gonna do a bodybuilding show and don't really care about peaking for it but the comedy is on point. "It will make you immortal", "naked pictures every 5 minutes" I got a RPE 11 ab workout from my first viewing.
I think I’ve watched this video at least 7 times to get ready for my first competition (natural). Didnt have a coach so I really appreciate these videos! (Also I won debut, novice and open) so thank you Dr Mike and Jared!!!
34:00 im so glad you guys talked about the mental apects of diet/post show. Like you picked a date to compete not stuff your face. get on stage because you love it not for two large pizzas and 12 donuts.
Jared is really big on this. He actually explained this to me in my recent (and by far most successful) prep and it made a huge difference. You compete to do your best. You can eat your favorite foods once the comp is over, not BECAUSE it is over. - Dr. Mike
This is an extremely delicate yet fresh change of pace. Actually what the fuck am I talking about you could have uploaded paint drying with the RP logo as a watermark and I would still love it
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the way these two refer to each other by name is super fucking cool and healthy. They look at each other as their own human people. I fucking love it, it's so fucking healthy and respectful.
Just won my Natty Physique Pro Card using the advice in this video, so thanks Jared and Mike. Biggest takeaway for peak week is that "Less is almost always more" -Its very easy to add food in, its impossible to take food out once youve eaten it. -Dont change up the food on the last night, I got food poisoning from Ground Beef on Showday, luckily I could get it out before heading to the venue but it caused me to be a bit flat for Classic Prejudging, which cost me that pro card. Luckily being flat for Physique isn't all that bad because you look more peeled in the midsection. -Dont worry about sodium and water, just do the same thing every single day and sip on water when you wake up on showday. I did 5-7g of sodium every day for a week up to show day and 2 gallons of water. I went to 1.5 Gallons only on Friday. Just that little change made me dry out a bit more. -If you arent sure if you should Carb load early (Like monday, tuesday, wednesday), or late (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)... Just do a progressive linear load, its so much easier and you can adjust on a day by day basis. I did M/200g T/250g W/300g T/500g F/400g at 160lbs. Saturday I just had a big carb breakfast of ricecakes and PB+J 4 hours before stage. then a snack about an hour before of the exact same thing. The advantage to the progressive load is that every day you can see how your body is responding, and dial it up or down depending on how you woke up and how you looked after training. Just my 2c.
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🏋️♂️ Natural bodybuilders should avoid excessive pump-up before a show, as it can lead to fading on stage. Consistency is key. 01:51 📊 Peaking for a show involves optimizing intramuscular glycogen storage, minimizing extracellular fluid, and maintaining a sharp waistline. 05:06 🍗 Protein intake remains relatively consistent during peaking, with a 25% reduction in the days of carbohydrate loading to manage gastrointestinal issues. 08:18 🥦 Carbohydrate manipulation includes a depletion phase for conditioned individuals and a possible increase in fats, aiming for maintenance calories during the peak week. 10:53 💧 Water intake adjustments are crucial, with gradual increases early in the week and a reduction close to the show, synchronizing with carbohydrate loading for a full, dry look. 13:03 🍔 Fat loading may have a place in peaking, aiming for maintenance calorie levels in the week leading to the show, especially for natural competitors. 16:47 🥞 Pre-show nutrition involves assessing the physique, avoiding drastic changes, and following a planned approach based on practiced peaking principles rather than last-minute adjustments. 20:17 🏋️♂️ Jared Feather discusses the social aspect of bodybuilding, sharing amusing anecdotes about hanging out with iconic cereal characters like Trix Rabbit and Captain Crunch. 22:27 🏋️♂️ When tapering training for peak week, Jared recommends starting the deload process around six to seven days out. Keep the volume low, avoid causing muscle damage, and don't be sore. 26:06 🏋️♂️ Jared discusses the option of using the last few days of peak week to lose a bit more fat, but emphasizes the importance of being in a relaxed state, especially for natural bodybuilders. 30:24 🏋️♂️ Jared cautions against using glucose disposal agents (GDAs) and similar supplements, as they are not well-studied and may have potential risks for natural bodybuilders. 31:21 🏋️♂️ Jared advises against excessive pumping up before going on stage, as it can lead to glycogen depletion. He recommends a minimal approach to pumping up for a sharper appearance. 32:33 🏋️♂️ One mistake in peak week for natural competitors is excessively tapering sodium and water, thinking it will enhance the dry look. Jared explains that this approach is unnecessary for naturals and can even have negative effects. 35:32 🏋️♂️ Jared discourages the post-show binge mentality and emphasizes the importance of transitioning to maintenance calories with clean whole foods. He advocates against drastic rebound strategies. 37:37 🏋️♂️ Jared recommends thinking of the post-show diet as an extension of the prep, slowly increasing calories and focusing on clean carbs to avoid ingraining poor dietary behaviors. 38:45 🏋️♂️ In response to criticism about his haircut, Jared humorously suggests that the negative comments fuel his motivation to keep the hairstyle, and he playfully engages with the banter.
