I suspect part of the problem is that the channel is now growing into realms where it is attracting the kinds of people who expect anything on youtube with more than a thousand subs to be a professional production backed by a full team and a priceless amount of gear.

I understand that Hubnut is one man with a mobile camera traveling around showing us great adventures with ordinary cars. You, Ian, must be doing something right because you just topped 40,000 subscribers. 😁 The cars are amazing to see but I think I can speak for most people on this channel that it is you who makes everything come together. Your ordinary every man's demeanor and flair coupled with straight forward commentary keeps us all appreciating who you really are. A great man. You started this channel out of the love of neglected/forgotten cars and no matter where your adventures take you, just keep sight that you can't be doing anything wrong when you're doing what you love. We the Hubnut community support you and your dreams. Stay well and know we got your back! Pschouuuuuu!

@@HubNut there are nice back roads along the IJssel river if you go south from Zutphen (Baak, Steenderen, Doesburg). Be careful with motorways tomorrow, summer holidays start in region north (including Amsterdam), causing delays in southern and eastern direction. Very impressive Ian. The amount of work you have to do to make this possible is daunting when considering the amount of time involved advancing your projects, shooting and editing videos plus replying to viewers comments here, Facebook and everywhere else. You also have to fill your store orders, compose articles for magazines on top of daily household chores. You deserve a big pat on the back. After letting this fully sink it occurred to me it would be a good time to make a donation.

These videos are fantastic. As you say, Hubnut is about capturing the moment and that's exactly what you do. Instead of some impeccably produced video that's completely unrealistic, it's like a friend taking us along on his holiday travels. I find it incredibly interesting for example, watching you travel off the ferry in one of the previous videos and seeing the immediate scenery that presented itself to you. Nice seeing the raw footage of it, rather than a timelapse or highlights! Good show Sir! 😃 Edit: Don't worry too much about indulging us lot with witty banter all the time, I think I speak for most of us when I say we're just happy to be taken along on the journey!

A couple of decades back it was me in my battleship grey Skoda 120L, doing much the same, touring NL, stopping to see things that took my fancy - and there really is a lot to see. Try to rest up, and good luck with Ellie, and then it's on to Eindhoven to see the remarkable, idiosyncratic but very interesting Daf Museum. Can't wait!

In the summer of 1967, foolishly I went on what I hoped would be a touring holiday of Northern France on my dubiously reliable BSA Thunderbolt. A few days in, just as I realised that hot oil was soaking into my boots, a bang and a grinding noise issued from the engine, and the back wheel locked up. After an exhaustingly sweaty push to a garage, a very Gallic mechanic looked over the bike, shrugged his shoulders until they touched his earlobes, and pronounced, "C'est Grave, Monsieur." For all in know, the bike is still there

Another great video, Ian. I agree with you, one of the best things to do in a strange city is just wander around. people who complain about the reliability of the 2CV are either young or spoilt! I remember the days when decokes and carburettor rebuilds were normal maintenance!
There are 4 vehicles here at the moment, all fully serviced and maintained. 3 are 2005 or newer, and if I turn the key or push the button, they will start and drive. The 4th is from 1980, so I will have to pull the choke and crank it for a little while. Once it's warmed up, it will drive just as well, carburettor and points notwithstanding, as more modern vehicles. I would quite happily drive it to Adelaide tomorrow (1400 km from here) Elly is the same. Happy trails!

Never commented before, Hubbingtons, but thought I should. Keep doing as you’re doing and always have done - it’s got you this far. I feel your pain here and appreciate your wearing your heart on your sleeve. I admire your balls (not literally) in this adventure and hopefully as you see the support for you doing what you see fit is incentive to carry on doing as you please. I have an appreciation for older motors but lack the patience to live with them so only have hideously expensive new stuff (I obviously have no soul!) and can’t stand travelling - so I’m living vicariously through your good self. Keep on keeping on. I like the Palinesque travelog aspect too so just stick with it. Your personality is the glue that holds it all together and that’s what makes it eminently watchable - warts and all!

Absolutely loving the road trip videos, reminds me of an epic Euro road trip I did with a friend in his Capri 2.8i though I think Elly has been more reliable! After a high speed thrash to the south of France we had to change the front wheel bearing as they were making a horrific noise. Then it conked out somewhere near the top of the Stelvio, crud in the fuel system (churned up by enthusiastic cornering), alternator stopped charging at one point and after almost 2500 miles the rear diff locked up solid as he reversed it into his driveway!
The video and audio quality is perfectly fine, ignore the moaners.

Hi Ian , don't worry too much about having to top up with oil it's a way of life for these elderly lady's. Back in the 50's my family and i would cram ourselves into our Morris 12 with all the luggage and 2 Gallons of Castrol because she was a 1938 vintage and she liked the taste oil a bit , as long as my father topped her up she would go up to Irvine in Scotland and back again no problem, with the front window screen wound open and plenty of comics and magazines in the overhead hammock it was great times back then , it was like having the front room inside your car , plush seats and dreamy interior lighting , we loved it . She was black and my father would use 2 tins of black cherry blossom shoe polish on her and she sparkled and when it rained it rested into puddles as big as dinner plates on her bodywork, but if you brushed past her with a white shirt , well that was another story. I hope this little tale has cheered you up a bit , stay safe and enjoy yourself.

Yeah, I gotta agree with those that say just keep on doing what you do. Being an American, I like the fact I can understand 90% of what you say. Fascinating car, we don't see many of those cars in these parts.

Nice to watch a long summer nights filming while it's winter here in OZ, . Between you and the tour de France we're getting to see a lovely slice of Europe, keep up the good work....

Regarding traffic, the Netherlands are extremely densely populated. Also, it’s the holiday season - watch out for traffic jams when you do France-Croatia in a while. When you look for La Ferté-Vidame on a map, look for Dreux, west of Paris, and then L’Aigle. That’s probably the smallest you’ll find on a map of that scale, La Ferté is too small.
And Magirus-Deutz is indeed German, pronounciation Ma-ghee-rous Doitz. Air cooled diesel made at Cologne, rest of the truck made at Ulm.

    Always interested Ian...love your vids.
You're one of the few people I've encountered who visits a beautiful city and, like me, takes just as much pleasure from the automotive wildlife!
    Cheers old boy.
