What a wonderful moment in history, watching as that great man and actor, Vincent Price, shook the hands of another great man and actor, Walter Pigeon, while those 3 regular panelists and moderator look on! I ADORE this show and all the wonderful moments like these❣️
From a time when men and women acted with decorum and class. And Vincent showed, once again, why he was a delight in any medium. Thank you for posting this!
Vincent Price has always been one of my favorites, and I had the opportunity at college to hear him speak. Walter Pidgeon I always picture as Dr. Morbius from Forbidden Planet, and also from the movie version of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
The panelists were all charming people. I would’ve loved to meet them. Mr Bennett Cerf seemed to b such a wonderful witty & warm person, so intelligent as well, all of them were very intelligent but never appeared arrogant. The epitome of class & refinement.
Yes, he was a warm and likable person and led a very interesting life. In case you weren't aware, Bennett was one of the co-founders of the publishing company Random House. If you get an opportunity, pick up a copy of his autobiography, "At Random". It's really a fascinating read.
Vincent Price was often at a college in NEMO - Truman University. My daughter met him there around 1984 when he was there for a visit and to work on a play. She said he was so tall and very funny.
The panel was always expecting mystery guests to use a disguised voice, so he played around a little bit, but let them think that he was disguising his voice. They projected on him and made it easy for him to fool them.
The panel was accustomed to mystery. Guests disguising their voices so they would have thought his voice was a disguise rather than a real person. It was a very clever way to deal with it by just saying a lot of things in French to throw them off.
I have always liked this game show even though it was before my time I liked this better than the 70s version I was always interested in the 1900-1960s type of shows and the history of them and including the old radio classic and just the original type of what shows should have been I’m old school technology that was simple and fun to relate with not what we have today
Vincent Price…… he played the male lead in the vintage movie, “Dragonwyck”. He also was a guest on the 1970’s television program, “The Muppet Show”. He was fabulous(!) in both.
Great Talk Show Guest Mr Price. Bet the time would fly if you were stuck in a lift with him! Married to Coral Browne. He & Christopher Lee shared a Birthdate 27/5 & Peter Cushing day before 26/5. No-one like them today. Like so many Greats on this Show.
Leave it to Vincent Price to make even the most mundane responses musical -- and hilarious to boot! Even in his most macabre appearances, you can almost see a twinkle in his eye! And in this episode, he was delightful! (Not to mention I remember my grandpa owning a Remington Rollectric!)
It seems that the Panel is just 'Stretching' this Vincent Price segment....as Price is really NOT making much of an effort to 'alter/disguise' his Voice....but still entertaining.....
I think he did that because his appearance was so random that he might not have been guessed if his voice was completely disguised. He had absolutely nothing to plug, not even a book, and he lived on the west coast. If the panel didn't guess his name it would have been rather embarrassing to him (and the panel too for that matter).
@@MWood-ry8uu Rigged? Heavily rigged? Do you have any actual evidence for that claim? Any evidence at all? I suspect you believe it to be true... but I'm curious WHY you believe it to be true. Note that President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill into law which made it illegal for the outcomes of quiz shows to be put forward in any way that was pre-arranged.
His voice is recognizable, but he was speaking French and the panel was used to the guest disguising his/her voice so they probably thought his voice was affected rather than his own. Clever psychology from Vincent Price to fool them. He did well through most of it until they caught him finally. Brilliant actor and so much more.
The reason that they had to be blindfolded is because the opportunities offered to black men were so limited that, as I immediately called it myself the second I saw him and knew instantly despite having never heard of him, the producers knew that there would be absolutely no "sport" in inciting him on.
Bennet Cerf is kind of an a**hole! When he said to the Brazilian moderator. "Do the people of Brazil enjoy the pleasure of looking at you, instead of John Daly?" I cracked up!~
Loved seeing Floyd Patterson. Great fighter! He was so handsome! Thank you for winning a medal for the USA! 😍👏🥰🇺🇲
Vincent Price. He was one of a kind. I understand he was a very kind man to everyone, and was extremely interesting to talk with.
And had a very witty sense of humor.
Yes! Would L💙ve to talk with him!!💙💙
I loved him as an actor,Very talented

@Robert Gardea wrong. Manners mattered more.
A certain section of society yes, not your average dock worker or coal miner.
@@chipbuttytime3396 Waddaya got against dock workers or coal miners?
It amazes me just how skilled the panel is. Especially the regulars, Arlene, Dorothy and Bennett.

Let us not forget that Walter Pidgeon also played a pick-pocket in the film "Two-Minute Warning". Shows you the range of ability this person had.
Yes! L💙ve Vincent! L💙ve Walter Pidgeon in Forbidden Planet And in Voyage! 💙💙💙💙
I'm surprised the panel didn't recognize Vincent Price's voice immediately!😄
I agree. From about the third answer on, it was as if he didn't disguise his voice at all.
I think they did, just let the show go on!?!?
@@carolv8450 good point! Probably!😄👍
Such a distinct voice
There was an excellent chance that they thought he was faking the voice and was actually someone else. Vincent price was very clever.

@@curiouscharacter1 Thank you so much, I will look for his book.
My father had so many of Bennet Cerf’s books. I really enjoyed reading them.
Vincent Price was just a marvelous actor, such a gentleman, and a chameleon because he could be an hero or a demon. Loved him!

Gosh he's lovely.
The men stand up to shake hsands, the womem remain seated. What an age to age to have live in.
We kids back in the 1950s both adored and was frightful of Vincent Price, LOL! We went to see his scary movies and enjoyed them all!
Still watching in 2024
I can't believe they didn't recognize Vincent Price's voice
I know, right?

Arlene Francis is a dream and a gem..
RIP, Vincent Price!
Heloisa Helena, our charming brazilian representative. Exporting grace and sympathy.

This is a Great one...ty for posting this!!
Vincent Price was fun.
How could they not recognize Vincent Price's voice?
I thought the same thing

Vincent Price... ❤ Yes Mr. Daly this man was gifted in so many ways. Drama or comedic. Artist.
This episode was from Dec 16,1956.
I didn't know Vincent Price was so funny 😅

Vincent price did MJ a honor with the reading in thriller. I loved him he scared me as a kid
Television in its infancy. Our family used to watch it regularly. I think this one dates from about 1956.
Floyd Anderson was one of the inspirations for the naming of Pink Floyd!
There's a band in Jersey called Anderson Council. Opposite of Pink Floyd
This episode aired on December 16, 1956 (Season 8; Episode 16)
Worlds Champion and a 1st class gentleman Floyd Patterson, Why does Arlene also hate to put on her mask
Arlene is an a**h*le
Vincent should have howled his answers. Just loved him in "House of Wax".
Yes! L💙ve House Of Wax!! Remember seeing House Of Wax in 3D in the movies years ago! 💙💙

An evening with Vincent Price and Victor Borge would have been fun.

Wow the late floyd paterson😮
All the people on this episode are "late." Dead as a doornail.
Why is the chair so low for the contestant, or even the host's chair.
Why was Floyd Patterson sitting in a chair that made him look so small?
It looked like he was hunched down.

There is no way that the panelists always figure out who it is. They are probably not blind folded properly on purpose, for the entertainment value.
