My two penneth worth... I love the ease of setup with the straps and gate buckles. Take down and pack up is great too. The basic underblanket you can buy I have never been cold in our UK weather. However, I am finding I am getting a far better sleep with my original cheapo hammock and underblanket. I'll hold full judgement for another few camps. If it remains that I still like my cheapo hammock better, I shall change out the straps to the Onewind set as set up for those is sooo quick.
I tried a 9 ft Snugpak Jungle Hammock, and then an 11 ft "big box" imported one. I watched another UA-cam channel using the Onewind. I purchased a 12 ft extra wide and loved it so much I purchased a second one. Both of mine have the bottom entry bug net. I'm 5'8" and after several adjustments I'm am able to get a good flat lay. Even better I'm able to sleep on my side... almost on my stomach comfortably.
The hammock you just reviewed is the same one I have. I have the over under quilts and the one wind hot tent with a small wood stove. I am Going to set this all up when it gets below 20 degrees Fahrenheit in northern Michigan. I am totally stoked to get to do this. Thanks!
Sir, this was a terrific review, and really helped with my decision on whether to purchase this hammock or not. Also, thank you very for much for your prior service, much appreciated.
I have the one wind complete set up 12` hammock, Camo tarp and under blanket, absolutely love it hanging from a tree taking in the view. ATB and thanks for your service
Still using my ol' faithful DD Frontline hammock I bought at the Wilderness Gathering about 12 years ago now, double wall for inserting a kip mat and a moz net, yeah they are comfy and give a good night's sleep but there not for everyone. Good review Tom but I only need one and the DD is spot on. All the best to you bud. Paul.
@@PreparedPathfinder I swapped out those lengths of cord and attached a carabiner on each end and now use a length of webbing as you've got, loop end round tree and loose end through carabiner a few times and tied off, works a treat bud 👌🏻
I have 5 full hammock set ups and everyone I've put in a hammock has loved it, my hammocks range in price from £20 to my most expensive which is the onewind. All of them have bug nets and the ones that didn't have one I've added a structural ridge line. I also put a length of paracord on the zips so I can open and close the net without having to try and balance myself sitting up to try and find the zip😂. So much better than sleeping on the ground in a tent
Roger, I was converted the first night I used one! I've since slept in jungles, deserts, in the back of vehicles and aircraft (I forgot to mention that in the video!) in hammocks. Beats the ground any day, as you say.
Good review Tom. I've heard good things about Onewind and the price is one of the best things about them. I like that you trialed it for over a year before you did your review. I've used a $20 hammock from Amazon and a Hennessy ultralight backpacker. Both worked well but In the backpacker I had the best sleep in the field I have ever had. Unfortunately I haven't been able to duplicate it lol Take care. Nate
This is interesting. I've never used a hammock as I live in the UK like you so sleep kit is essentially the deluxe edition of British Army Issue (air mat, warm sleeping bag). The UK is cold and wet most of the time and there aren't always trees, so that's what made sense to me. I can see a use in summer or for edc gear. I'd like to know more about what to look for in a hammock set up. Could save me money if I did go down that route.
Correct me if l’m wrong, but there are plenty of trees in the UK! 😂 I used this two weeks ago in -2C in the Black Mountains and it was fine. You just need a sleep mat as l mention in the vid.
@PreparedPathfinder yes I edited my comment when I heard that. Depends where you want/need to sleep. Up on the moors, on top of a lot of the hills and mountains are often lacking in trees. My most recent wild camp was under a single tree on a cliff in the peaks, it wouldnt have been possible to put one up there. For that reason I spent my money on a mat and sleeping bag. Come summer I might invest, because you can reduce your weight and volume considerably then. In winter it's just another thing to carry 🤷♂️ but that's just what I think.
@@Bikeadelic roger that mate. I wouldn’t carry a hammock unless l was going to use it. Which comes down to planning. The advantage it can have is you can put it up on a slope as long as you have some trees, which will also provide concealment.
I have 3 hammocks 1 of which is a jungle hammock with built in bug net, only down side being it's a one way zip, apart from that all good. Yup get up off the floor when it's too wet or the floor moves too much as it will do in said places and was there for sane reasons. PNG without a hammock or tree house would be impossible.
@@PreparedPathfinder yeah it seems like much less faffing about compared to DD when it comes to the bug screen. Clicked the link and site couldn't be reached. I wonder why?
Looks good. What sort of sleep bag do you use in it for this time of year? Good old Arctic bag or the British Army Medium? Or any thing else…? All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
@@PreparedPathfinder Ok. Too heavy? They are all I have. Bought a hammock last week from Decathlon. A Solonac. Came with a separate bug net. Been offered the use of a couple of trees up on the Mendips, so I will give it a go soon. All the best👍🏾🇬🇧 ( stop hugging those trees…😉).

Thanks for your service brother. Lossen that suspension a tad . I have this hammock in a double layer the northers. Love it.

there really good in a back of a land rover like you said. just attach it to the side rails
Out of curiosity, why do you string your hammock up so flat? Do you just prefer that over having sag and laying diagonally?
Yep
