Not only due to the mismanagement but also fierce competition from the LCCs for regional flights as well as the ME3 for Europe-Thailand flights, making Thai Airways is in tough position to compete with other airlines.
I have flown in Thai Airways once from Singapore to Bangkok in an A350. It was superb! I would say it was one of the best services an airline could offer.
Thank you for finally covering Thai Airways; it's easily one of my beloved carriers. I really do hope they make a quick recovery from the pandemic soon, and continue to deliver on the exceptional service and "Smooth as Silk" flying experience.
Flown on 747-400, A380 and 777's from Thai over the years. The 747 was the pinnacle of comfort in economy with 34" legroom but the overriding thing that made my choice easy was the Thai in flight service. I have yet to experience the 787 on the London route, but hope to in October.
It’s not a secret, but the main reason of their financial difficulties is the corruption within the organisation at all levels. The lucrative routes to places like London and Paris were still loss making, despite nearly all flights were fully loaded and their ticket prices were over the top! Considering their payroll should be among the cheapest, compared to European ones for example, which should’ve created some profitable margins. They couldn’t capitalise because of the ongoing corruptions. TG’s profile is very similar to the good old Alitalia, in terms of golden days back in the 80s and 90s and highly corrupted in present days. Anyway, I genuinely hope they succeed with their restructuring plans. Their current fleet should help easing down the impact of genuine financial crisis. I also wish they would bring back A380.
Just flew Thai airways in July from Toyko to Bangkok after flying Air Canada to Tokyo from Vancouver both we're good flights with many transferring to Bangkok flight.First flight a little late but transfer was well taken care off.Had great time in Thailand with my sweet Thai lady stayed 30 days the max with passport look forward to flying back in January
@@nighthawkvc25a - He gets an A for trying! The spelling is very intimidating but when you look at the phonetic pronunciation, it's rather easy to say, SOO-WANA-POOM.
I thought THAI had many more planes! I saw on flightradar24 one day, that there was only 60-65 planes, which was not what I thought, and I realise now that most planes are parked. Wow.. but also not that fortunate for THAI.
Thai Airways is the only airline I’ve ever flown and I’ve grown up flying them. It was heartbreaking to hear TG had announced bankruptcy and the subsequent fleet retirements in 2020. I flew on Thai’s A350 in April and they still have the Thai touch and ‘smooth as silk’ service. Sad to see all the parked aircraft at VTBS on arrival and departure
Sadly it seems that corrupt conduct is the Thai way. I can't believe their own government sold its shares in the flag carrier. They could easily return the A380 into service by offering normal airfares from Bangkok to Europe/USA, rather than the extortionate prices being seen now due to all airlines price fixing and price gouging following the pandemic. So many people can't afford to fly right now, like myself, but if prices were to return to normal I'd immediately buy a ticket (along with thousands of others who are waiting for more reasonable pricing) aboard TG & their seats would fill quickly. BKK is a hub airport between Australia/NZ & Europe, and they had no trouble filling up their A380s in the past, so they'd have no trouble now. It's a matter of making the prices reasonable.
i flew thai airways just yesterday to frankfurt and i can say the service is way better than in the pandemic (tho i didnt like flying with a boeing 777-300ER instead with an A380/50)
Flying in to Suvarnabhumi airport a few weeks ago I noticed Thai had been storing their planes on the aprons around the airport, while most other airlines moved their planes to better climates. Now all these planes look old would probably need a lot of work to get them back up to scratch, might avoid flying Thai for a while which is annoying as I noticed they’ve started flying to my city again.
those parked 747, a330, a380, 777s on the apron near the new terminal are definitely not coming back to service. the 747s are all sold, a380s and a330s are waiting to be returned to the lessors, and the 777s are not even relavent anymore. so why would they bother making it look pretty when itll likely get sold and repainted anyway?
@@josefmprable the 777 is not relevant? what are you talking about? It is the best selling widebody commercial aircraft of all time and is still a top choice for international flights
TG use to be one of the best airlines in the world, and one of the 20 largest. The pandemic is not the main reason for the collapse. It is really down to serious corruption and mismanagement.
yesterday i flew on Thai airways and the tray table of the plane was super dirty because they didn't clean it and the plane was delayed and the bus was also delayed and the cup-holder was broken and the 787's window dim buttons were broken but them service was good and the pilot gave me a key chain.
I flew on their A380's in 2019, to Tokyo. It was magnificent, so i'm genuinely saddened that they're being sold. The experience was wonderful. the plane was super quiet and the service was superb. Tourists are starting to return to Thailand and the airline needs capacity to create cheaper tickets and draw customers back in as the country is keen for more people to visit. Having said that, there is ongoing issues within airline management and the bankruptcy process has made those who lost money on tickets extremely angry; they're still awaiting refunds and may not receive any, if at all, until 2024.
