You need to like the person you are and all of us have natural tendencies that we need to overcome to be something better. If a drug addict just be’s themselves they will continue to abuse drugs and commit crimes. Find who you want to be and strive for that without corrupting your values. If you think all you need is this one thing to be different (whatever that is) money, how many friends you have, or achieving a goal to be happy im sorry to tell you it wont. Happiness and what makes you happy is a constantly changing journey and you can never always be happy just maybe more often. Think of the people you know who are definitely ‘themselves’ but still always depressed or depressing to be around. I hate that so many messages boil down to just do this and you will be happy. Its disingenuous.
