Jay Mazella oh my god, in EVERY era there was a huge world problem, why are you such a downer? And i wasn't speaking of the state of the world, im talking about "I hate my generation's music it all sucks :((( older music was so much better." That's what i'm talking about, so chill out.
I was pleasantly shocked when I saw all the familiar faces in the video - Billie Eilish, Daniel Caesar, boy pablo, Cosmo Pyke, King Krule, BROCKHAMPTON and my favourite Rex Orange County. I've felt so alone listening to them, since none of my friends really share my taste of music. I'm so happy UA-cam recommended this video because it's been awhile since a video felt so significant and relevant to me! I wasn't familiar with Gus Dapperton but thanks to you, know I do. Kudos for the well put video!
mikakura98 dude!! I love all of them too! Nobody I know listens to them and honestly, my heart is into the music so deeply and I feel so alone with it. I'm glad I'm not the only one. 🌻
Im making my first EP right now being influenced by all of them, even brockhampton lol. I made my gf a playlist cd that has at a song or two from nearly all of them already lmao
I swear it's like you're going through my phone or something, these are all artists I've been just listening/discovering to. You've earned yourself a new subscriber, ya creep. Also: Yellow Days next
Once you listen to demarco and boy pablo and then boom, the suggestion start poppin up like gus daperton, peach pit, sunset rollercoaster, yellow days, rex orange county, mild high club, king crule, etc
Does anyone else think a lot of the artists coming up now sound similar though? Seems like the Mac Demarco influenced sound crossed with the 80’s/90’s fashion/colour aesthetic is really popular atm
I noticed that plus this guy romantic poetry at the beginning is really laughable to how he describes the music that he listen to is the open the new generation anthem like fuck off 😂
I was literally bombarded by the artits you were showing in the beginning, ive fallen in love with literally all of them (except gus interestingly enough so thanks lol) in the past months, this just made me so happy
mizarella gladly lol. Well theres Cosmo Pyke, King Krule, boy pablo, Steve Lacey, Daniel Ceasar, Rex Orange County, BROCKHAMPTON, Rich Chigga, and Billie Eilish. Those are the ones that i know. Id recommend exploring on your own making your own experiences but if you want any suggestions on where to start just lmk
You articulated perfectly why I fell in love with Prune, You Talk Funny, the first time I saw the music video. Seriously, it's thus far the highlight of my 2018. Besides being relentlessly catchy, and the video being a total joy to take in, it's just how--as you put it--it normalizes the participants' individuality. They're all dressed like cartoon characters, and they don't just look happy, but they look like this could be any random day. The video is structured in such a way that it makes you feel like you're peaking into a parallel world where people can be and do and look exactly how they want to, and it's absolutely fine. I love that so, so much. I wish I'd had an influence like Dapperton to admire as a teenager.
I've been waiting for someone to make this video for far too long. Gus deserves this and so much more, as well as the other artists you mentioned. This video makes me beyond happy, I cannot express how much I love this video. (And literally every artist mentioned in your vid is on my playlist)
Individuality is only celebrated in a visual sense which is only good in terms of marketing. Most of these guys are still biting Connan Mockasin and Mac Demarco stylistically and sonically. The real individuals in terms of production and songwriting are still hardly getting the respect they deserve. The internet age has shifted music appreciation from music for the sake of music to using music as a package for the real product, the artist's look and personality. If you can build a cult of personality around your persona, you get the money. Can't say as much for the people pushing music forward in any real sense.
Beautifully said my friend. When I 1st witnessed I'm Just Snacking, I was immediately drawn into a dream like state. His jawline helped as well. (low key jealous, ha)
i’m super glad to know i’m not the only one listening to amazing creative artists like gus, it’s been a year since you’ve posted this and all of these artists are way bigger. super happy ❤️
I really enjoy watching this video I discovered Gus couple months ago and everything you said about him is true, I grew up listening to hip hop and to hear something so different like Gus Is quite relaxing.
Been repping Gus for over a year now and its great to see him being reckognized on a such dedicated channel that reaches a broad demographic. Also, i just discovered your channel but i am very pleasently suprised that most of the videos you've are upcomming bands and solists i am promoting to my friends as well. I would really enjoy if you made a video on Ady Suleiman if he an artist you enjoy. He has a great voice and an interesting take on popmusic that makes him stand out from the crowd. Anyways, you've earned youself a new sub right here!
I'm happy for this music that is proud, awkward and most importantly different, everyone in this scene has such a vibe to them that is so unique, I'm glad that they push this idea of individuality yet manage to feel relatable almost like a best friend or a lover
I wish that people would still listen to Gus, he released a new album and it's really good, i hope he grows more and more as an artist, he definitely deserves it.
This makes my heart sparkle. Individuality is all about pushing what's normal by being yourself.. letting your inner personality shine without worrying what other people think. This video is amazing and I am also a fan of Gus. Thank you for making great, genuine content and perfectly encompassing how I feel about these unique artists.
fantastic video about Gus. I just discovered this kid and he is such a huge inspiration to me stepping out of the norm and clouded streamlined music that has been given to us on the radio etc. Very well done Video I hope you make more about Gus.
YES We need more people praising creativity and individuality like this! Gus has been my favourite artist for a while now and I absolutely adore living in a generation where we have the freedom to be ourselves
I feel like you and I could be best friends, keep it up my guy, if you keep putting videos out that are like this, you’ll get the recognition you deserve ✌🏼
what the fucking fuck same here!!!! I found gus, and then every. single. person you showed at the beginning of the video after him, and I was strickly an edm fan. But I just started smoking new years of 2018, so I think this def shows me what else is out there lol
Amazing video really summed up gus who I’ve listened to for ages as well as many of the bands featured, crazy how much I agree with everything about embracing uniqueness 👍
I love this video. Shows your great awareness and appreciation for unique artists. A lot of them in this video which I knew of, which says a lot about my taste in music too lol. Groovy🤙 edit: and what's funny is, I clicked on the vid by accident and exited out. But once I caught a glimpse of a few of the other artists I was familiar with I had to go back and watch the video. Well done👍
Keep on putting out these videos!! 1. they're so well made and on point, 2. this is the music I like so I can't wait to find out more artists like these!
I love gus I love this he deserves more appreciation. Gus’s voice sounds exactly like his songs do on your phone live, I’ve seen him, it’s amazing. His talent is real.
Let's not forget that Gus's parents are both in advertising. Same as Clairo's and Billie Elish's. Pop stars are becoming rich kids with connected parents. Not that this is entirely bad because of the music they put out being passable to pretty good, but still. Also, it's troubling to see a magazine/online news sites such as The FADER promoting these artists to near-mainstream success because of deals made by the artist's parents. What I'm saying is we should be cautious of the changing landscape of pop/music. UA-cam is much easier to manipulate than TV or the radio.
Not only do you have a great voice to listen to, but you're excellent at wording your thoughts of artists and shows. Makes me think of Anthony Fontano but at a much more tolerable video length. Super relevant, right on point, extremely enjoyable. subbed.
I really enjoy your channel, you are someone who shares a unique music taste that none of my friends have. I feel like I can relate to you, and I like that.
I've been listening to this for a few months. Absolutely loved the video. And hopefully i can release the songs i've saved up for how many years soon and share my individuality.
40 seconds in and i already love your style of editing and speaking as well as what you're actually saying as you seem very passionate about these artists so I'm subscribed now :)
yess the bit about watching a creator genuinely dance to their own music is why I love Peach Pit so much, even though the dancing is AWFUL I love it because he clearly just loves to dance and feel his music
I absolutely love this video man, keep up the great work FOR SUREE. You’ve definitely gained a new subscriber, there’s this one artist named Jakob Ogawa, and it would be so amazing if you did a video on him
Hey, man. Great analysis video for one of my fav artists. Can you do next for Sigrid? She's a bit mainstream on these days, but I think she deserves a video.
I like your sentiment but you’re completely ignoring how the music industry functioned before the internet. There have always been underground and indie musicians expressing themselves deeply and to a greater extent than a lot of the artists you mentioned. Now that the internet has given people the opportunity to put music out without a label and marketing team you see a lot of indie musicians being promoted on the same platform as other traditional pop stars. A lot of the musicians you talk about have a pretty simple song structure, and surface level lyrics that apply to generally most people( teens). I think it’s great what they’re doing but I also think you’re giving them too much credit for using a platform that other artists of the past have worked hard to pave the road to
Eth Gray ya he’s really talking about them like they’re the messiah and it really doesn’t make sense bcs it’s not like people like this were born yesterday
Im glad to live in this generation of music.
Amanda S prolly the first time i've seen a comment like this. everybody wants to go back in time -.-
Jay Mazella oh my god, in EVERY era there was a huge world problem, why are you such a downer? And i wasn't speaking of the state of the world, im talking about "I hate my generation's music it all sucks :((( older music was so much better." That's what i'm talking about, so chill out.
Amanda i seen u everywhere
THANK YOUU
Amanda S so am i .

mikakura98 dude!! I love all of them too! Nobody I know listens to them and honestly, my heart is into the music so deeply and I feel so alone with it. I'm glad I'm not the only one. 🌻
Yo I can totally relate to my friends not having the same taste in music. It makes me sad all the time... :(
I felt the same, except that I knew Gus. The internet is amazing
Dude this is becoming the new mainstream. Nothing original about liking any of those artists
literally every single one of the artists you displayed in the video I listen to everyday heavy

That's all thanks to Mac. He laid the foundation of this new scene.

Mixed with early 2000s emo.
Man this world of indie music is getting interesting! 🎶 Thanks for introducing me to new artists.
Soon, underground artists will be in the mainstream and good music will be back again.

I was literally bombarded by the artits you were showing in the beginning, ive fallen in love with literally all of them (except gus interestingly enough so thanks lol) in the past months, this just made me so happy
glad you enjoyed it! thanks for watching
Ok but guys, whos tryna start a band now
wow could you name them? cause I like gus and would really be interrested in dicovering them!
mizarella gladly lol. Well theres Cosmo Pyke, King Krule, boy pablo, Steve Lacey, Daniel Ceasar, Rex Orange County, BROCKHAMPTON, Rich Chigga, and Billie Eilish. Those are the ones that i know. Id recommend exploring on your own making your own experiences but if you want any suggestions on where to start just lmk
lol I love a wholesome comment section

i have discovered another heavenly part of youtube. bless.

You should check out Declan McKenna if you haven't already! I think you'd have interesting thoughts on his discography & music videos. :-)

Amazing video really summed up gus who I’ve listened to for ages as well as many of the bands featured, crazy how much I agree with everything about embracing uniqueness 👍
Everyday my mind gets more and more blown by how similar our music taste is. It scares me.
I love this video. Shows your great awareness and appreciation for unique artists. A lot of them in this video which I knew of, which says a lot about my taste in music too lol. You're analyses really strike a chord w me and I hope you keep making videos
I love gus I love this he deserves more appreciation. Gus’s voice sounds exactly like his songs do on your phone live, I’ve seen him, it’s amazing. His talent is real.

I don’t know but it’s just his music. Gives me nostalgia of a time that I wasn’t even born in but would like to experience.🥰✨
im glad that Gus is finally getting the recognition he deserves, great work!
This made me so emotional because Gus is SOOO important to me like I love him so intensely 💛💛he inspires me to accept myself more

thank you!
You mentioned all my favourite artists also i love this channel!!!
i love gus, i discovered him last year it was the best decision haha
It took so much effort to not click away after you played that first clip of his music. This guy is amazing.
Not only do you have a great voice to listen to, but you're excellent at wording your thoughts of artists and shows. Makes me think of Anthony Fontano but at a much more tolerable video length. Super relevant, right on point, extremely enjoyable. subbed.
thanks so much!
Went to his concert yesterday in Ghent (Belgium) and it was incredible, we had a little chat, a great guy.

Prune, you talk funny was filmed in my town and my school :) he’s such a cool guy with such cool music. Love your videos !!!

You represent Gus and his music so well in this video.
I love this so much ❤️ I can’t wait to see Gus at his concert.
Just saw Gus play in ATL a couple days ago and I still haven't washed my hand from when we fist bumped. Gus is us!
I love how our generation is just living their best life. I love the way in which indie/ alternative music is going. So fresh.
Gus is one of my favorite artists! Great video ❤️
This wave of very expressive old school vibe, is the best thing that has ever happened to the modern music era .
Man i found Gus back in 2017 and fell in love with his voice
just came across your channel, keep it coming bro these are quality
thanks! I appreciate it
Hey, man. Great analysis video for one of my fav artists.
Can you do next for Sigrid? She's a bit mainstream on these days, but I think she deserves a video.

Eth Gray ya he’s really talking about them like they’re the messiah and it really doesn’t make sense bcs it’s not like people like this were born yesterday
gus is just a tad bit different to every other artist on the same sort of level of audiance. He is doing a good job, but i get what your saying.
ok boomer
"individuality" has become the status quo
And he’s still making awesome music!
Seeing Boy Pablo, Steve Lacy, Cosmo Pyke, and King Krule at the beginning let me know this was going to be a great video...
i feel like music is slowly starting to get good again
Love all the videos you're putting out
thanks! appreciate it
Yes! I love it. You do you kids. If it's good, it will shine. I would add Dent May into this mix. Doing his own sort of modern Buddy Holly thing.
