Really enjoyed this up to date talk on Joseph Wright of Derby. I'm very proud of Joe!, and I'm fortunate to live in Derby and can pop in to the museum (now opening again) to see these truly fabulous paintings. Thank you John Hayward, for making it so interesting.
Gem of a clip, thank you. Will visit Kenwood to see Wright of Derby's "Kitten" when the opportunity arises. My personal favourite of Wright's is his "Orrery". I'd like to think the great astronomer, the first Astronomer Royal, John Flamsteed, who grew up in the same Derby home Wright occupied later, he'd approve too.
Wow, some people seem to want to find something wrong with almost everything. How on earth does anyone see something sexual in that painting of two children playing with a kitten? I think the critic is the one with the problem.
Fabulous talk, John. Have always admired his work. Many thanks.
