Nice video and thank you. One important note is to look at the instructions and study the table of the recommended setting. Knowing the TDS is most important. According to the TDS you need to adjust the aquarium size and you might find that you have a 500 litres aquarium but the actual setting needs to be 150-200 litres (just as an example) According to the manufacturer, not following those recommendations can cause harm. Today you can get a TDS 24h monitor very cheaply.
Definitely would love to see a follow up review and give your honest thoughts on whether this product does the job as it's intended to. looking forward to the next update!
Thank you for your explanation. My unit stoped after a minute so i got worryd that it did not worked properly and that i don,t let it on It helped a lot
Thanks Blake. 💐Finally I know what it is (got recommended in some online shops). And now I’ve decided I don’t wanna have Hydroxy radicals in my tank. Radicals always want to „merge“ with something (at least no oxygen radicals).
I've watched all the set up videos and I've never been able to get it to work.after a few years in the box, I just found it in the closet and still can't get it to work.
If it works or not? Personal opinion is that it does work but has some risks, if you forget to turn it off it can be disastrous. I think UV sterilisation is just as effective with no risk
UV will only work on suspended particles in the water column - does this not create a weak chemical change in the water, therefore having a wider affect. I’m using this more for algae prevention ( not green water ) than fish/shrimp diseases.
It’s really handy when you run hight tech tank imo. I tend to push my dosing and light to high marks so algae was always an issue but when I run chihiros doctor it reduces it greatly. But Tds higher than 500 is really high when my tap water is generally 60-80 tds and probably do a water change and generally aim for bellow 300
@@BlakesAquatics I like that I’ve is out of tank . I like as little equipment in tank as possible. I’ve got my co 2 through at external defuser atomiser seems to be working well runs in line with canister
Hey 👋 i used it fairly regularly when starting up new tanks except one day I forgot to turn it off and the inhabitants all passed away. As a result I recommend UV sterilizers over devices like these that serve the same purpose albeit without the same fancy bubbles with far less risks 😅
Definitely a gimmick element to them, theyre best off as a short term application on tank setup before algae sets in rather than a way to get rid of it
I'm pretty sure they don't work. I put it in a brand new aquarium. I was literally having algae grow straight ON THIS PRODUCT.... I tried both this the and the Nano +, with pretty much the same result. I pretty much had the same amount with or without this device. I didn't have serious algae either way because I planted heavily in the beginning. I can't see a more thorough way to prove it doesn't work than algae growing on the device that is supposed to prevent algae. Save your money.

Yeah sure have, turn off the flow and spot dose it with flourish excel. Give it a few mins to 'soak in' to the algae before turning flow back on. It should turn red or white and die back

Hey nova, personally I think a UV steriliser is a better long term option. Less risk and more likelihood of actually reducing algae.
interesting, never seen this kind of thing. looking forward to updates
I’ve never seen anything alike to this either
This would be super handy to have around for when you have those annoying parameter swings especially in scaped tanks

Glad it helped
Awesome review. Cheers!
Would you recommend this over a uv sterilizer?
Hey mate sterilisers as a whole are more reliable and less risk
@@BlakesAquatics than you for the response!
Would this works in similar way to UV steriliser?
Yes exactly 👍

Thanks, Blake. DO you have any experience with the use of this device and the beneficial bacteria population?
Do you know if the Twinstar version has an app so you can run this on a timer ,have it turn on once every 20 minutes would that be OK?
I dont sorry we dont really have much twinstar stuff in australia
Thanks mate. Goodjob for the review.. nice if u show us some smile :p
All business mate 😃
Can I put dr Chihiros in the sump?
could this be used on marine ?
No it cant sorry, the element rusts in marine
Thanks for the information do you have to turn off your co2 when using the doctor
I would yep 👍
Good intro into this item - any update?
I've watched all the set up videos and I've never been able to get it to work.after a few years in the box, I just found it in the closet and still can't get it to work.
might be a faulty one
Great explanation Blake. Have you looked into getting an affiliate link for Amazon so you get a little kickback for the stuff you recommend?
Hey Boges, I have a bunch of links set up in my video descriptions but they never get used. Its hard because you need to set them up country specific
@@BlakesAquatics I was asking after checking out the light you recommend in the links. Would probably order if you got a kickback.
So wait, how would the hydroxl radical not harm the fish? Free radicals can cause lots of serious health issues in people.
I guess thats why theres a 1 hr limit? Im not sure on the chemistry sorry

Can this be used on a timer or does it have to be manually turned on/off each time?
I tried it and i dont think it switches back on
How long use every day
1 hour per day
this will rise the water temperature or not if we continuously use ??
Definitely dont continuously use. It will raise the temp a little during operation but nothing to be worried about
Can it operate with timer or must be activated all the time manualy?
Hey mate unfortunately it doesnt work on a timer

Does your TDS keep rising from 80 out the tap to 300 in the tank, you must of alot of stone making it rise that much!
Does it have a timer?
no you have to plug it in to a separate one.
Hi Blake, how does this compare with using a uv sterilizer?
Keen to see review in a couple months. Seems same kind idea
I'd suggest that UV have more runs on the board at this stage but this is something im also keen to see over time.

Yeah they work, i found they clarified the water but there are safer, more effective methods such as a uv steriliser in my opinion

What's TDS Blake
Total Dissolved Solids. A bit of an arbitrary figure because it measures everything in the water no matter what that is actually made up of
Might appeal to some but personally, I'd rather fix the root cause than put a bandaid over it.
So I guess you can’t use it in salt water
Nah not compatible

It works but after using it for a while id say it has more downsides at a higher expense than a simple uv steriliser.
