- Watch me battle the Colorado blizzard with my 1025R using a combination of the 54 Blade and 54 Blower! 36 driveways completed in 8 hours! I have loaded rear tires, 8 suitcase weights, and rear tire chains - things would not have gone as smoothly without those things!

Many years jjst like that in North Idaho. Me and my little red 1985 Yanmar 3 cyl ooen cab tractor. Finally had enough and just purchased a 1025R with heated cab. Yeah, i look forward to a warm cab and hot coffee while i do my snow remova. Worth every penny. 🤠

Great video, As a commercial snow plower, a suggestion - when the snow is this deep plow the drive or lot backwards. If you want the snow to the left , blade left and start at the left side, next pass the snow will roll into the empty spot. It seems nuts but it will take less time to clean and you won't have so much going over your blade and driving on it. Think of it as plowing a field , the farmer's plow is always rolling the dirt into an empty trench! Hope it helps!

I had a 4-ft snow thrower on a Craftsman lawn tractor in a blizzard like that. I had to put my snowmobile helmet on and it took me 4 hours.
You made it through with a good tractor! That is where you thank yourself for having the chain, the loaded tires and the proper equipment. I agree, some places would be easier with a plow, sometimes with a snowblower. That wet slushy snow at the bottom is the worst thing ever. Thanks!
You're absolutely right. That wet slushy snow on the bottom is difficult to deal with. I switched attachments where it made sense and got through the storm pretty well! As much as I think the snowblower is fun to use, in many cases I still retain higher productivity with the blade. I can move so much faster!

It looks like we are totally done this year, just put the loader back on yesterday. We didn’t have much of a season this year at all, but it sounds like you get to have more fun, enjoy love to see!

Yes sir! I enjoy a good storm like that! I had fun, but was very tired afterwards. It was very enjoyable to test the limits of the tractor too. I think it performed very well given the extreme snow.
I have to say, that 1025r did quite well, an interesting thing I found was your switching of attachments, when I was in the first part the snow seemed a lot heavier, making it a good call to run the plow to prevent shearing bolts on the blower, the broom wasn't an option, the nice part of a blower is the amount you can move with it, but you can go a lot faster with a plow, but with drifting a blower is a must, I have to say I could use a good storm next year to give myself a challenge, currently I run a 09 polaris ranger 700 UTV with a 6 foot straight blade, that works ok in most snow conditions but you have to do more passes, I also live in the country which is a blessing and a curse, you have a lot more space, but my house is surronded by trees so not many places to go, and having a longer driveway you have to go a lot faster to maintain momentum to throw the snow farther so you have space for snow storage. and then there is that painful moment where you catch a crack in your driveway with the blade and the whole machine stops dead in its tracks. I used to have a 07 john deere 2520l. that got sold a few years ago, it had a loader, which would have been nice to put a snow pusher on, a blower which was the star of the show all winter, I miss the sound it made under load with the blower, that kind of lobe a john deere blower makes. I would say for my smaller 5 acres a 1025r would be better, but that didn't exist back then, to be honest I would have expected the 1025r's to be a lot more useless in snow and for higher hp applications because of the small form factor, but for day to day work they are quite good. If I bought a tractor it would be a 2038r or a 3 series, but that's if I buy more land for myself someday, again great video, keep it up
That was some serious snow and the Deere did a great job moving that heavy stuff. I’ve been on the same struggle bus trying to film solo in windy/wet snow conditions and it ain’t fun. I hope old man winter grants you a couple days off, recharge & take care
Thanks Kevin! It's definitely a challenge filming solo when conditions are extreme - agree 100%! We're in this weird stage where it's very warm out some days, and frigid cold on others! haha.

Thanks Joe! In my situation being in a neighborhood, this tractor is about perfect. I would love to go bigger, but don't always have the maneuverability in people's driveways to support having a bigger tractor. For it's size, this thing is pretty stout! Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@TractorHoarders I’d like to move snow once more before spring sets in lol. Right now I have the Deere ballast box and a Frontier BB2060 box blade. Always on the hunt for more though lol!
Great video! Yes had to plow in a storm like that! Plowed 14 inches with a 1984 JD 318. Did pretty good but wasn't as good as the year before plowing about the same with my 1974 JD 140 h3!
David, did you have the 318 and 140 weighted down and with tire chains? Fun to get to use these machines in challenging situations like that.
@@TractorHoarders The 140 had 50 lb weights on each side and chains worked killer. For the rest of that 2019 2020 season I took the chains off actually. The 318 had 300 lbs of wheel weights plus 100 for the fuel tank. Pretty weighted down but since the bottom of the transmission is flat as a countertop, it god stuck on anything that wasn't plowed before I passed.

Unfortunately, a good chunk of the footage during the worst conditions was unusable. Note to self: figure out how to better record during a blizzard lol. Did anyone else battle this one?
That is very though recording a blizzard near freezing point. It does stick everywhere! Solution: canopy!
Yes, this one was a battle. My little GR Kubota struggled to plow this one. So many roads where closed I had to wait until after the storm to get to several places I plow. At least my walk behind snow blowers can handle that snow even thought they are slow doing it.
When it's that deep I push to the road then plow across the driveway after the storm then straightens out the sides and push it downstream of the street plows. It's against the law here in Pa to push your snow into the street. They told me last year it would be a $500 fine if caught.

this has got to be one of the best video's out there for what the 1025r will do in extreme conditions for snow....living in Utah, i know what can happen when blizzards come rolling in...got to say thou, wish there was a way to have weight on the front end when snow plowing to keep your tires going where you need them too....did you have any weights on your real end....it certainly was a snow pushing machine out there....
Hey William - thank you sir! I use this tractor for snow all the time (and have plenty of videos of it), but it was really cool to put this thing to the test during this storm. I think it did really well! I totally agree with you that having some additional weight on the front end or steering would be nice. I have loaded rear tires and 8 suitcase weights on the back, along with chains (for this storm). I limit my use of chains because I don't want to scratch people's concrete driveways. I would be interested in trying front tire chains someday. I only bust out the chains for major storms though. Thanks for the feedback! You guys certainly get some pretty nasty storms too.

Hi. This is so sick. I went to a dealer today to get info on this exact tractor and here I am watching videos tonight. What do you mean by loaded tires? High air pressure??
Hey Frank! Loaded tires refers to them being filled with a non-freezing liquid for the purpose of adding weight for more traction. If you get one, just ask your dealer about it and they can load the tires for you. I’ve got more 1025R videos on my channel, and I’m about to start making more as we switch into winter snow removal season (already got our first snow in Colorado today)

Just got done moving my snow. After a couple of blown hydraulic lines in the old Ford, I got smart and switched to the new Massey and that made real short work of it.
Always frustrating when problems arise in the middle of work. Which Massey do you have, Josh?

Looks like you had a ton of fun. Those industrial tires tho are terrible in the snow. I would swap them out for the HDAP tires for much much better snow traction. I have a X738 with the HDAP tires and I was trying to tell my buddy who has it 1025R exactly like yours how much he’s losing with those tires. So we hooked up a chain to our hitches and had a tractor pull. On 1/2 inch of hard packed snow and even with him weighing 500 pounds more than mine with the attachments I was able to pull him backwards.
I totally agree on the R4 tires. This is not their strength at all. I used to have an X585, which is two predecessors back from the X738. It had HDAP tires and you’re right, it did amazing in most conditions!
Yeah...Haven't seen snow that deep in Central MA since 2015. The winter that drove me to buy my 1025R TLB and front mounted blower. Of course it's been manageable ever since. LOL!
How much of the blower set up do u need to remove to switch to the blade? Looks like you are able to swap them back and forth very quickly. Very cool. I don't have a blade. Would like that option. Have a pusher that I start with early in the season. Then put on the blower and switch back later in the season (like last weekend). But I need to switch to the loader frame and pull the whole blower set up off and put it all away. Not a major undertaking, but still takes some time and effort. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Joe! Thanks buddy! It is super easy to swap back and forth between blower and blade. I have another older video that shows it. It’s about a 2 minute job!
If you are considering a blade, I’ll share with you something I’m considering. I may get a blew from CTA (compact tractor attachments). They are similar cost to JD, but built super stout, and fully compatible with the front quick hitch. I may get one for next season because I go through a lot of wear bars on my existing blade.

Yes was snowblowing with a rear mount 6 ft snowblower open cab during similar conditions. Not a lot of fun. Could never get the shoot turned so you weren’t getting covered. I am also looking for a cab
I'm fine with open cab in most scenarios... but when things get fierce like that, it makes me want a cab for sure! What part of the country are you in?

Yes sir! Most of the time I'm fine without it, but this was a definite time where a cab would have been ideal.
Check out Original Tractor cab. They sell a hard top soft side cab for the 1025. I put one on my JD 2305 and love it. Beats sitting out in the open and a lot cheaper. Tractor time with Tim put one on a 1025 so check it out .

I have strongly considered OTC. I keep putting it off. During this storm I wish that I hadn't! lol. Just curious, did you get the optional windshield and windshield wiper? I think I would like to go that route if I get one because of storms like this.

They are a good plow vehicle, but can't do sidewalks with them.

Haha, thanks Tim! Yes, this is a mighty little 25 hp 3-cylinder diesel. I have the tractor weighted down to approximately 2000 lbs depending on what attachments are on it. For it's small size, it'll do some work! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Funny you say that because I went and looked at one at my local JD dealer today! Unfortunately, I'm not confident it would give me the maneuverability that I need in some of these residential driveways. I'm not ruling it out though. :)
@@TractorHoarders or maybe kubota l4060 i worked two years with one i could do tight downtown driveways no problemo. but you guys must not get very much snow here the average is more than two meters accumulation
@@MordusdepleinairQuebec That's a lot of snow! We certainly don't get that much. We have very frequent small accumulations and maybe two storms like this per season.
@@TractorHoarders crazy how different the weather is in america. Here we rarely get more than a foot per storm but the snow stays until spring. it started to melt 1 week ago, banks were 8 feet high !

Not always easy to blow snow. Especially there was a good layer of very wet snow at the bottom.
Maybe if you’re clearing your own driveway and even a few others that would be OK. I would not have been able to do 36 driveways in 8 hours with a snow blower in wet snow. It’s way too slow. If you have room to push it to, a plow is so much faster.
Exact! I plow my driveway at 15mph with my side-by-side. I can tell the snow is being thrown in the ditch each time! No snowblower can beat that! But when I have 12+ inches of snow... nothing beats a snowblower!

I’ve also got two blowers for it and a power broom. I use the blade 90% of the time.
